So much has changed since they stopped doing the crossovers. New Amalgam Books? New Amalgam characters? I'd love to see these things.

So much has changed since they stopped doing the crossovers. New Amalgam Books? New Amalgam characters? I'd love to see these things. The synchronicity of this announcement for me is high. Just last week I was at my lcs and they had a copy of the older edition of the JLA/Avengers trade (not the Hero Initiative one, the previous edition from when Marvel/DC were still working together), and Tony, the owner and I were talking about the Marvel/DC crossovers and the Amalgam stuff, and he was saying how if they were in print, it would almost be a license to print money because he gets requests for the stuff just about every week and if he had copies he could sell a bunch, that it could be an evergreen seller for him, but he doubted Warner/Disney could get their sh*t together to ever get this done. I agreed, but added if they could work things out for Shang Chi, Rom and Micronauts, they could get it done if they wanted and thought it would be profitable enough. And lo, a week later, this announcement dropped. So we'll see how these sell. -M

I'd pick those up for sure, I remember really liking some of the mash-ups.

OK, I'll be the sour puss of the gang, but I've never read any DC/Marvel collaboration that I've really enjoyed. Spider-Man & Superman had nice art, but overall was decidedly "meh"; Batman & Hulk was completely forgettable; and Kurt Busiek's Avengers/JLA crossover was just eye-rollingly dire. As for Amalgam, I have no interest whatsoever in the hybrid heroes that that spawned. Maybe some of the individual comics were good, but the basic concept of the merged heroes is just such a turn off to me that I'll never know. So yeah, those new omnibuses won't be on my Birthday list.

I read Batman and Hulk for the first time just a few years ago and absolutely loved it.
Perhaps only eclipsed by Batman/Captain America in my fave crossovers. But to be fair and I have discovered, Bronze Age Batman and Bronze Age Hulk are 100% my jam.

I must rise to the defence of X-Men/Teen Titans; not only was it a good story with good art, but it should have been the final word on Darkseid and on the return of Phoenix!

Man, it’s an amazing collection but I have 90% of the books collected. Maybe if I get a deep discount online somewhere, I’ll pull the trigger.

As usual with me, the DC characters as a rule don't attract me so there'd have to be something extra to get me interested, e.g. a favourite artist like Perez on JLAvengers. Even then I have to mentally hold my nose to enjoy even the artwork because the DC stuff is often such a turn-off, as the Superman-worship was for me in that miniseries.
The amalgam concept I don't see at all: if you like one or both of the characters, why would you want to see them watered down by being combined with another character. And if you don't like them, why would you want to see them at all, whether alone or in combination with something else?

X-Men & Teen Titans and Hulk & Superman were pretty good, with amazing art (Walt Simonson of the teams and Steve Rude, on the Green Guy and the Boy Scout). Batman & Captain America was pure fun.
I liked a chunk of the Amalgam books. Not the Dark Klaw or some of that ilk; but, Bruce Wayne Agent of SHIELD was good, Super-Soldier worked pretty well, loved Spider-Boy, as well as the team books.

So yeah, those new omnibuses won't be on my Birthday list. I enjoyed the second Superman/Spider-Man crossover, I thought it was solid, character-driven and intriguing. I’ve revisited it a lot. The first Superman/Spider-Man crossover is enjoyable in its own way, but I’m gonna be honest, it feels more like a glorified edition of a Superman team-up book. Beyond the novelty of seeing the heroes team up, and the pairing of Luthor and Octopus, I’m not sure there’s much beyond that. I did quite like Batman & Hulk - but the Shaper of Worlds seemed like a peculiar foe, I’d have rather seen Abomination, The Leader, Tyrannus or anyone else. Again, beyond the novelty of Bats battling Hulk, and Joker having an initial alliance with Hulk, there’s not much there. I wish we’d had a Batman/Spider-Man crossover in the 80s (I know there were two in the 90s). An 80s crossover, perhaps drawn by Ross Andru or John Romita, would have appealed to me. I don’t like the contrivances of the separate universes approach. I prefer the simplistic shared Earth approach of the early crossovers as you can get on with the story easier, rather than coming up with boring explanations as to how heroes can cross the barrier between universes.

I was the opposite, it drove me crazy as a kid when both Marvel and DC characters in a crossover were presented as being from the same Earth. That meant these weren't the "real" characters, damn it! Plus I was a multiverse nerd and wanted to see that concept used. Stuff like that stopped bugging me when I got older. I loved Batman/Captain America and Superman/Hulk when they came out

X-Men & Teen Titans. Hulk & Superman. Batman & Captain America. These 3 are amazing and IMO some of the best comic book stories that I have read.
