The cats are getting out of hand...we needs more doggies here! Daisy our 14 year old who has been a little under the weather (she had a vet trip on Thursday and needed 4 shots and a couple of meds... ) and Patches our 16 year old who is a grumpy senior citizen and wants you to get off her lawn.... Just don't let the cats near Daisy, she thinks cats make great chew toys, which is why our 3 cats live in a gated community away form Daisy -M

Once upon a time I had dogs (& less-gray hair, & no beard or mustache, & a lot less poundage). This was taken 13 years ago more or less to the day, in the park about 2 miles from my house in North Little Rock, less than a week before I moved to Alabama. Tag, the (deaf) springer spaniel, had about a year to live. Casey, the (blind) Shih-Tzu, I lost about 10 days before Xmas in 2004. Both were 16. I miss them terribly. As I do Dickens, the big black Lab I got at age 10 or so circa the summer of 2003 when the daughter of his elderly owner, who lived around the corner from me (though I never met him), needed to find a home for him after the old gentleman had to go to the hospital for the final time. I had him for a little over 3 years, till very late September 2006. Then came 4 years of petlessness, till I brought in Howie (RIP) at about 4 months from my feral cat colony on Columbus Day, 2010. Et apres il, le deluge. Not sure how the cats would get along with them, but I know Casey used to inadvertently terrorize felines by nuzzling & licking them out of an overabundance of fascination & affection. I'm sure I've mentioned before that Casey's aloofness & independence struck me as uncommonly catlike, which is probably why I fell in love with him when we got him from our next-door neighbors at about 6 weeks. (Tag was an adolescent when we got him a year or two earlier as a birthday present for my younger stepdaughter. Took me longer to warm up to him, though he was certainly the better dog per se.)

Did someone say "Needs more dog"? This is Luke (we did not name him, the rescue director did). This Ophie (pronounced like "Sophie" but without the "S", and short for "Ophelia". We also did not name Ophie, the rescue did and requested we keep her name. This is Mags (Maggie). She's the littlest and youngest, and she had a really rough start to life. And she has horrible skin issues due to it. All three are pit bulls of sorts. And all three were adopted.

Anyway, yes -- my hat's off (or would be if I ever wore one) to you for adopting those charming canines, ma'am.

In my previous job selling compounded meds to veterinarians I saw dogs and cats every day and loved it. They're so sweet.
I thought I loved dogs when I was a boy growing up in the country with ours.
It wasn't until after Susan and I married and she insisted on getting another Schnauzer as her's had to be put down while we were on our honeymoon.
Being the oldest of 7, I said let's get 2 so they can keep each other company when we're out.
One of the smartest things I've ever done and now I couldn't imagine not having 2 little schnauzers.
Yesterday, out of the blue, a friend of ours texted my wife that her beagle mix Bud was feeling bad. He had white gums and she rushed him to an emergency practice. He died and they think it was rat poison.
Earlier in the week she had to put down her other dog, a dachshund of nearly 16 years.
I feel so bad for her.

I know.
I think I'm going to go out tomorrow and get something for her to help memorialize them.
To make it even worse, she's 47 and divorced.
She's had a number of boyfriends over the years propose but she just can't commit after that bad marriage.
Anyone with any good ideas please feel free to share them.
