For purposes of promotion, have you thought to reaching out to the various blogs and websites?
Like Dial B for Blog, Mike's Amazing DC, GCBD, Bronze Age Babies,...
Would comic book retail stores be interested in advertising? Would Marvel or DC be interested in advertising for their classics (ie Showcase, Essentials, Trades,...)
You have a targeted audience here, albeit a niche.

I'd love for some motivated users here to do something like that. I'm already giving this site way too much of my time, so it would be great to see some other folks step up  It's a great idea, but who pays for it? And if we start taking up a collection around here, that opens up the door to some serious potential problems. I'm just a guy who didn't want the old forum to go away and am not looking to bear that kind of a burden. |

I'm just a guy who didn't want the old forum to go away and am not looking to bear that kind of a burden. : I think the key is to get comic shops or even Marvel/DC to pay for some advertising banners. Use the money to pay for any admin costs associated with the site. |

Pro Boards "owns" the site, it is a free board on their servers. Any advertising is done by them and any revenue it generates goes to them. We are not hosting the site on our own servers or paying for the website space, so we can promote the site to bring people to it, but we cannot sell ad space on the site.

You probably can't place advertising on the proboards site proper, but if you ever get a front page up, simple google-ad-type code will place comics ads on there. It's all about the keywords software.

It's all about the keywords software. I think I'd rather leave finances out of this. Things get complicated, and good working relationships get strained, when money is introduced as a factor. I neither want to profit from this community nor do I want to end up paying the bills. I've posted to the GCD-chat list about this board. Thanks much for doing this! |
