From The New Black Canary Is Coming Soon Posted on November 23, 2014 by Dan Wickline Last night there was a screening of The Flash and Arrow crossovers and executive produce Andrew Kreisberg gave a brief interview to the Hollywood Reporter. In it he gave us a good idea of what’s coming up for Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy) and just when we’d get to see her in all black. “Laurel appears in the Arrow episode. She’s not as present in these episodes, but that is because we’ve been building up to her appearance as the Black Canary. We sort of said that Sara was the Canary, but Laurel is the Black Canary. Episodes 10, 11 and 12 are a three-part trilogy that are about her. And episode 13 I think I can spoil, is called ‘Canaries.’ For fans of Laurel and for fans of Katie [Cassidy], they’re going to get more than their fill after the winter break.” Left BehindNow this might have to do with the mystery of Sara Lance’s death, which according to executive producer Marc Guggenheim, gets a push forward by S.T.A.R. Labs. “There is a major step forward in the Canary mystery. We have the folks at S.T.A.R. Labs in Central City, and they’re pretty scientific. They’ve got a lot of resources at their disposal, and it would be kind of a shame to not have Team Arrow lean on them a little bit to help solve this mystery.” So it looks like they will be dealing with the murder mystery upon returning in the winter/spring. I just hope they get around to telling Quentin Lance (Paul Blackthorne) about his daughter soon… its hard to watch him not knowing. [Source: THR]

I am really loving this series. I look forward to the Flash/Green Arrow cross-over, the Black Canary, and everything else they have planned on both Arrow and Flash. I hope these series last a long time.

I don't know, it seems a bit early to be introducing full fledged Black Canary. I'm still having trouble wrapping my mind around the fact that Roy Harper is running around with a costume with less than a year's worth of training under his belt.

I never got the sense that Roy was rushed into costume. Maybe it's because he basically mingled in the bad areas of town before Ollie found him and he learned how to take care of himself there which, gave him a bit of a head start. As for Laurel, not only is she bent on avenging Sara's death but she's been assaulted several times on the show so my guess is that she has a real drive to learn how to defend herself and others now.

The ARROW Show is devoting a three part transition to Laurel Lance to becomes a full-fledged Black Canary and I think it's an overkill for ARROW's Executive Producers to do this and I'm having issues with this. I do not want a three part episode to go through all this!
I just don't buy it and I rather not watch them and watch it on my ON DEMAND cable service of which I can watch all of these shows in order and be done with. So, during this three part nonsense - I'm not watching ARROW at all. I rather wait until the 3rd part is finish and watch it on ON DEMAND of which they have 5 previous shows recorded for you at no additional charge.
I just hate 3-Parts Show!

It does feel rushed when you consider that they have established that Oliver spent five years on the island (and apparently, various other locations) honing his fighting and survival skills to the point that he could be the Arrow. And this was under circumstances where he was basically fighting for his life every day, so it was five years of immersion training. If we assume that TV time is about the same as real time, then Roy has spent less than a year doing any kind of training, and under less demanding circumstances. Being a street fighter that gets by on pure aggression is one thing, but being a vigilante with actual skills is something else. In particular, being an archery-themed hero, I would think it takes a long time to master shooting a bow and arrow well enough to fight crime with it. The same reasoning applies to Sara. She spent years with the League of Assassins, whereas Laurel has had a few boxing lessons. If it takes minimal training to become a superhero, that diminishes the awe and wonder we are supposed to feel towards these characters.

But both Roy and Laurel are apprentice heroes not class "A" like Oliver and Sara. I haven't been given the impression that Roy and Laurel are in the same league as their predecessors. They're still learning but are taking a more active role in that learning in hopes of being more like Oliver and Sara someday.

Their Laurel (why not just Dinah?) has been all over the place and is still annoyingly kill-happy for me.

I just wanted to say sorry about my previous post that I've mentioned that it's takes 3 Arrow shows to dedicate the arrival of Black Canary. I wasn't thinking in the first place.

Just sharing here... I am surprised that anyone would have any problem with pretty much any character on the show. I think its amazing that Green Arrow, Black Canary, Arsenal, Huntress (Bertinelli version), Ray Palmer, Flash, Firestorm, Deathstroke, Merlyn, and the secret IDs of Vibe and Killer Frost are getting any time at all on television. Back in the '70's and '80's this would have been a comic geek's hopeless dream. I feel like somebody figured out what I have wanted since I was a kid and decided to surprise me. Times are good for comics fans. And who could have ever believed that a throw-away character like Felicity Smoak could be SO AWESOME!!?!! My advice to everyone: Sit back and enjoy the ride. This is GREAT!!!!

You are so right - the problem I just having issues with a three part show - and I do humbly agree that Felicity Smoak is a surefire winner. Thanks for the humble reminder.

I can NEVER get enough Black Canary. If they changed it to a four-part show I would be thrilled.
I might add here, Canary (from season 2, who was just killed) was AWESOME. I am so sad to see her go.

This is GREAT!!!! I agree, my "complaints" regarding the speed with which they are introducing costumed versions of certain characters is a minor nit-pick. I love Arrow and The Flash. But look it at this way -- if all we ever posted about was how great the show was then we'd have nothing much to talk about.
