A follow up to the greatest single issue thread. Which comic/graphic novel/trade do you open up just to admire the art, or think is simply better drawn than others? One rule to this thread: the art must feature hand drawn line art!

Dave Stevens' The Rocketeer,
Runner up, maybe The Hobbit by David Wenzel.

Only familiar with Dave Stevens from his awesome covers... never read the Rocketeer.
The Hobbit was one I thought of too- lovely book!
Akira by Otomo is another that stands out in my mind. Amazing books.
The Incal by Moebius also comes to mind. Really struggling to pick just one.
Maybe I should have made this a 'best of each decade' kind of thing...

Think of that awesomeness extended throughout the book, he does some great work with Bettie Page. I'm sure he really laboured on this one.

The more I think about this, the more books that I feel should be in contention spring to mind, such as these three:
Sin City: The Hard Goodbye by Miller
Fantastic Four by peak Kirby (around about the half century mark)
Weapon X by Barry Windsor-Smith
It's harder (for me) to pick outstanding post 1990 superhero art generally, but props to Jim Lee for taking highly rendered superhero art and perfecting it on X-Men 1-3, which stood out to me as incredible at the time, and Bryan Hitch for changing the face of superhero art with his widescreen cinematic style, which looked beautiful even if it has taken comics down a less wordy, less story driven path.

We were lamenting the fact Yesterday in the zoom meeting, that Bolland didn't do more interiors. I love his pages from JLA #200.

If Berni Wrightson’s Frankenstein counts… …then Berni Wrightson’s Frankenstein.

I suspect anyone that's read any of the comics he drew the interiors for wishes he drew more interiors! I'm not much of a fan of his covers- his colouring is unappealing and too often they lack energy.

Bravo For Adventure by Alex Toth.
I very much enjoy the simplicity of Toth too. Similarly, I loved Mazzucchelli's art on Batman: Year One.

I always thought he was brilliant, but after buying his IDW Artists Edition for Year One my appreciation has further increased. How he was a master of the art so early in his career is crazy.

I no longer have it, but All-Star Batman and Robin (by Frank Miller and Jim Lee) would be one. Lee’s art is great. But I honestly don’t know what Miller was thinking with the story, I thought it was a gag that most of us weren’t in on.

Spawn always had some great art pieces inside it's pages. But Spawn #1 specifically had one of my favorites. This had such a cool use of panels, backdrops, mixed with Spawn's mask in the sky. It just looks really cool. And the black and white inked pages from the art book look just as amazing as well.
