Just got a trio of 1950s Batman books including this one. 2015: My Collection year-in-review I only added 56 books to the collection this year which is my smallest haul ever. But I did buy a house which limited my spending. Highlights: I got the last 1960s DC book I needed which completed my run of every DC comic from 1960-2010. Continued my focus on 1930s DC titles (7 new issues) including Action Comics #16 (my earliest Superman app.) and More Fun #7 and 8 (the oldest and rarest DC books that I now own). Got two Adam Strange books and one Sgt. Rock book giving me every appearance of both those characters. Completed just two runs: Falling in Love and Three Mouseketeers Still need 2417 books to complete my DC collection. Books I got this year: Action Comics #16,28,143 Adventure Comics #225 All-American Comics #13,71 All-American Men of War #70 All Funny Comics #23 All-Star Comics #22,31 All-Star Western #104 Batman #95,97,113 Buzzy #62 Comic Cavalcade #36 Falling in Love #41 (Series Complete) Fox and the Crow #7 Funny Folks #16 Gang Busters #18,30 G.I. Combat #62 Girls' Love Stories #1 Girls' Romances #8 Jimmy Wakely #6 Leading Comics #10 Leave It to Binky #19,22,31,42 Miss Beverly Hills of Hollywood #4 More Fun Comics #7,8,21,25,30,34,114,126 Mutt and Jeff #19 Mystery in Space #32, 53 (1st. Adam Strange) Nutsy Squirrel #65 Our Army at War #83 (3rd Sgt. Rock) Our Fighting Forces #30 Real Screen Comics #56 Showcase #19 (Adam Strange) Star Spangled Comics #99,100 Strange Adventures #7 Superboy #28,41 Superman #101 Three Mouseketeers #1 (Series Complete) Tomahawk #63 World's Finest Comics #60 That's a lot of awesome right there.

Made of couple of purchases today that were on my list of "Collection Goals for 2016" This one finishes my complete Ghost Rider series: This one completes my run on Fantastic Four from #110 to the end of the original series: I also grabbed a Thor #482, which finishes my run from #195 to the end of the original series. It will also let me finish reading the series (I hit that point and realized I didn't have this issue, so I stopped reading until I could plug the hole). Do you plan on collecting any of the FF before #110? Just curious, didn't know if you were a fan of the Lee/Kirby era. I have the first Omnibus, and I plan to get #'s 2 & 3 this year. I will then fill in the gap between the last issue in Omnibus #3 and #110; I already have #98, so it won't be too many to have to get.

I decided it was finally time to acquire a Booster Gold #1 today. It had been on my list for a long while now as I've been trying to track down all the key Bronze Age first appearances that are undervalued now but likely to become inaccessibly inflated in value in a few years time. I was disheartened to see it was already going for upwards of $120 but managed to talk one seller down to $28 on a VF copy. Later in the evening, I got an update that the seller had cancelled the transaction. Needless to say, I was very disappointed and starting to feel both that I'd never own the issue and (more importantly) that I'd never get a chance to read it.
I went to check if I had any classic Booster Gold in my collection only to see that I already owned #1. And, as I started to read the first page, I realized that I'd read it before too. Turns out I acquired it during the hazy days of my concussion last year. I have no idea when I got it nor what I paid for it.
Disturbing, but not a bad surprise, all in all!

I'm so happy I did the bulk of my back issue shopping in the second half of the 1990s and early 2000s.

Isn't that an oxymoron ? Yeah, that's a weird one. So why isn't the first Ted Kord issue (Which I have) worth anything? I guess they tried (and mostly failed) to make Booster important, but really....

Booster had a show in the works for SyFy, Beetle didn't. A lot of the value push for Booster #1 came when the show got optioned originally.

I guess they tried (and mostly failed) to make Booster important, but really.... Because Ted Kord's first appearance came two decades earlier for another publisher. Booster #1 is his first appearance ever.

Booster #1 was still dollar bin fodder until the show was announced. I got a #1in VF/NM out of a dollar bin at the end of 2013.

But Bronze Age first appearances have been gradually moving up for the past two or three years. Even Firestorm #1 is fetching $50 average on ebay now. I saw this coming before the back issue market really started kicking into high gear again and have been trying to snatch these things up for about five years now. Bronze Age is the new Silver Age, which only makes sense, really.

But Bronze Age first appearances have been gradually moving up for the past two or three years. Even Firestorm #1 is fetching $50 average on ebay now. I saw this coming before the back issue market really started kicking into high gear again and have been trying to snatch these things up for close to a decade now. Bronze Age is the new Silver Age, which only makes sense, really. The one mentioned in the post previous to yours. SyFy optioned Booster Gold and the pilot went into production, but got abandoned before completion. Prior to the announcement you could still find copies of Booster #1 in dollar bins all over the place and at most for #2-$3 in most places. As soon as the announcement of the pilot hit, prices started climbing, $10 minimum within days of the announcement and they started selling instead of languishing unsold in shops and as unsold listings on ebay. Prices shot up. Firestorm #1 sat at about a $10 book for a loooong time until his character was announced as part of the Flash show, it shot up to the $50 range within a few week s of that. Bronze Age may be the new Silver Age, but what is defining key books now is what appears in other media. That is what is driving demand. Bronze Age books immediately before and after first appearances of characters who appear in other media are not getting any traction of push in value. It's only first issues and first appearances of characters announced to appear in other media. The books may be undervalued for their age but the demand was dormant until the media surge reawakened it. -M
