Well, I have the actual story in an MMW, so this is to have and to hold and to keep safe. My little piece of golden age history to have. I love Atlas Era Namor. I love all but recent Namor. does the MW reprint the entire issue or just the main Namor story? (golden age books often had multiple stories, often featuring other characters as well and I don't know if the MW has the entire contents of that issue so I am asking). -M I will look in a minute. I want to say the MMW does include the stories because I recall skipping over a lot of them because I was just in it for Namor (I am a bad person). But, I am not sure that they put ALL the backup stories in there or not. I am having a late lunch/early dinner, so I will look when I am done.

I'm with confessor on this. Would you buy a gorgeous vacation island if you could never visit it, but just had images of it to look at? In the same light, what's the point of owning the book if you can't experience the book (unless your primary goal is resale)?

Wow, that's a great find, CW! I'd crack it open, because I'd want to see the letters and ads and such, but then I don't know how much that lowers the value, so maybe if I did I'd think twice. I want to see those Everett interiors in first print with my very own eyes. How folks in '54 would have seen them. That is the ONLY reason I would crack that open. The only reason. But, I keep telling myself when I become rich, I will find another copy (hopefully of a higher grade), and I will crack the lower graded one open and finally be able to be at one with this book. hahahaha.

But then what would be the intentions with the book to the person I sold it to? Would they crack it open and read it? Or would they keep it safe in it's plastic box? Who would I be to judge? If there ever is a day that I am unhappy owning it as it is, I will sell it. Or, maybe, I will open it one day.

If it's opened, the CGC grade is voided...so all it loses is its graded value (which would be the premium associated with a 7.0 copy). It won't be the first time a slabbed book is opened. Sometimes a buyer simply wants the reassurance that the book has not been tampered with (hence the universal label) and is really in the grade it appears to be. Then it's unslabbed and assimilated into the rest of a collection. If someone else wants that reassurance afterwards, such as if she chooses to sell it, it can always be sent in for another grading. That comes with a fee of course, but if the book has increased in value since, it's worth it.

Also, if I open it, and if I ever decide to have it regraded, I also run the risk of the book grading lower. Which then does a bit to screw me over.

Yeah, the MMW will reprint everything, including the text pages. Take it from the guy with a 79% complete collection of Golden and Atlas volumes. The DC Archives don't and are, therefore, inferior. (Which is good. If they reprinted whole issues I'd need to collect all of THOSE, too!)

Oh, but those Archive books are often even higher quality than some of the MMWs. If you notice on yours, the ones printed in Italy have inferior quality paperthan those printed in China.

Great book, coldwater! Speaking as someone who has a number of CGC books, I personally wouldn't crack it. I got some of my books CGC'd because I think it's easier for insurance purposes to have an independent source for grades on big ticket items.

Got these 2 today at a good price. Been wanting to read these for a while and didn't know they reprinted Volume 1 because the original collection is going for crazy amounts. Didn't want to wait for the omnibus coming out in May.

I ache for the D.Strange Ditko art. You should post some scans to hold me over until I get my hands on that glorious artwork.

You should post some scans to hold me over until I get my hands on that glorious artwork. That's not really how Ditko Dr. Strange art works. If you see it, there's no holding you over. It just feeds the need. View at your own peril: The first and still greatest cosmic story of them all: The best Silver Age origin story ever: And there was also a crossover between Ditko's great creations in Amazing Spider-Man Annual #2:

Got in some commmmmmmmmicccccsss today. Whee. First up! Green Lantern #116, which completes my run of the second GL/GA series, from #90-122. Gunhawks #7, which completes my run of Gunhawks. Jughead #281 and #315, which gives me #179-up. That's every issue of Jughead since the beginning of 1970, or the last 390 consecutive issues of Jughead (#180-352, vol. 2 #1-214, vol. 3 #1-3). Hurray! And then: This leaves me three issues short of having #43-up. Once I get those three, it might be time to start actually reading them. Maybe even a Lois Lane review thread might be in order, we'll see.
