When it comes to slabs, I'm all in for cracking them out. Since I don't plan on selling any of my babies any time soon, I want to enjoy them to the fullest. Buying slabs is useful for more expensive books bought online because it helps ensure that you're getting what you're paying for, but once I have them I want to read them! And just to prove I live what I say, here are a couple of my latest acquisitions from last month - probably a couple of the best books I got all year - and the labels from the slabs they previously resided in: The Action Comics is my oldest Superman book to date. Beautiful books! My son would give his soul for that Cap book. I know there are two very different schools of thought on slabbed and unslabbed. Right now, I'm happy to keep it slabbed. If I ever become unhappy with it slabbed, I'll unslab it. That's an extremely reasonable conclusion. After all, if you leave it slabbed and change your mind, you can crack it open anytime. If you open it, you can't go back without paying to have it re-graded, possibly at a lower grade.

Just push through until volume two, my man. Volume one may or may not impress. There is some really funny stuff in Volume One. For starters, anything with Elrod of Melvinbone. Just push through until volume two, my man. Volume one may or may not impress. Artistically it is exceedingly underwhelming until Gerhard joins. As far as the story, I didn't find it unimpressive, but not what it becomes after the first volume. The first volume is easy to see it is targeted at being a sword and sorcery parody. Before we take this thread too far off-topic, I've created a whole new thread for discussing Cerebus here.

The Tarzan issues I won at the Lonestar auction and the stuff I added to it to round out the order arrived... a bunch of Kubert Tarzans, auction wins were the 2 on the left, the 2nd DC issue and one of the 100 page giants... The issues of Tellos I needed to finish off that Wieringo fantasy series... the last 2 Strangehaven issues I didn't have, the last issue of Brubaker's Scene of the Crime I needed, and the 2 JSA Classified issues by Walt Simonson featuring Hawkman that cross-over with his run on Hawkgirl... don't think I will be getting much else for a month or so as I build up my warchest for the new year, unless I get unexpected resources. -M

My three Steve Ditko books arrived today. Beautiful books. Some art from Creepy: And then one from Strange World: And then one from Strange Suspense: I think I am hitting "Creepy" tonight. Those books just excite me.

I was kind of ticked at myself for accidentally ordering Strange Suspense in trade instead of hardcover. I have never made that mistake before, and by the time I realized I had, it was too late for me to change it. But! The trade paperback is the highest quality trade I have ever owned in my life. VERY sturdy and high quality.

Used my Xmas gift cards to pick up DOOM PATROL ARCHIVES vol. 3, which includes the wedding of Elasti-Girl and Mento (which I've never read) as well as the very bizarre crossover with the Challengers of the Unknown (which I have read -- I always wondered if the vicious "Chemo-zooids" in this story were the inspiration for the killer rabbit in "Monty Python and the Holy Grail"...)

Let me read it first. I will hold you to it. We'll see how long it takes me to read the entire thing.

Damn I so dig that Thor cover. I wouldn't turn down vampire Sif. That was a instant buy the moment I saw it so many years ago.
