Just picked up the Man-Thing run of Adventures Into Fear. I've only read a handful of Manny's here and there, and these aren't the easiest to read, but ok. It finally got better with the third issue, though the art has been good by Starlin (!), Mayerick and others. Neal Adams does a fine cover for #11 (I know you mentioned "and others," but it's Neal Adams! ). Can't say enough good things about writer Steve Gerber's work on this title and the subsequent Man-Thing series. Unconventional to say the least, and almost stream-of-consciousness at times, you're correct that it isn't the easiest read, but I find it uniquely compelling, honest, humorous, and occasionally quite powerful.

The first Howard the Duck (#19) has been quite pricey in print since the Guardians movie cameo. I've picked up a few of the run in the last year or so but an affordable 19 has eluded me. -M

I am worried about Mile High Comic's eBay store of late. I purchased a book on March 20th and here it is nine days later and they have not shipped it yet. Their negative reviews are beginning to skyrocket. I wonder what's up. Chuck doing it all himself these days? According to his latest email newsletter, they are catching up with a backlog of orders because they were shut down by a snowstorm last week. That's good to hear. I had been slightly worried. I'm in the UK and have bought a couple of piles from them recently. With their One Price for any Number of Comics policy it's cheaper for me to buy from them than it is to buy from UK dealers. I'm looking for low grade reading copies of stuff. They are way cheaper in the US because, I guess, collectors over there are looking for better grade comics and they just aren't so many of what I am looking for over here. Having to wait for a couple of weeks for things to turn up is a bit of a bugger though.

I'm a huge fan of Gerber and Howard and since this was on sale, what the heck. It's a product of the times and I'm enjoying it. Comixology's price on # 19 is $1.99 or $.99 on sale until midnight EST 4/24. I'll keep my eyes open for it on your behalf mrp.

Recently weeks ago this month since Im an old timer comic book reader where I was a teenager in the mid 1990s and i was a little kid in the early 1980s
I prefer the old classic X-men and Power Pack etc.
Recently bought the Essential black and white trade paperbacks for Classic X-Men Volume 2, Essential X-Men volume 4 and Volumes 6 and 7 for the 1990s Wolverine Volume 2 series.
I missed out on everything that went on in Wolverine back then after issue 100. and I do mean alot of the stuff that i missed out on in X-Men, Generation X, Wolverine etc

Buckle in boys and girls, back home from Buckeye Con and have a huge haul o'stuff to post...you can see the overall haul in the Con thread, but here are the pieces (and this might take a few posts... first off a snazzy Earl Norem Conan print... only $8. I didn't find this dealer until late in the day and was already short on funds by that point-there were a couple of other interesting Conan prints and he had a ton of affordable original art pages for sale, which had I found him earlier in the day I might have pulled the trigger on, but I got a business card and can buy from him later, so maybe... then a few $5 hardcovers and trades... Mouse Guard Vol. 2 and 3, Baltimore Vol. 1 and 3 and the 2 volume softcover edition of The New Frontier by Darwyn Cooke... I almost pulled the trigger on an Absolute Edition of this from one dealer for 1/2 cover, but it was way early in the show and I hadn't looked around the whole hall yet, so waited, butit was gone when I came back so I settled for these. Next up... some magazines... -M

First a quintet of Heavy Metal issues from 1981-1985... all were $4 or less. a quartet of Savage Sword of Conan issues... #17 filled in the first 20 issues of the run, I still have a bunch of issues in the middle years to get though. These were $3 each, but the dealer was doing buy 2 books, get 1 free, so they came out to $2 each when all was said and done (one of the Heavy Metal issues and the Epic issue in the next pic came form the same dealer... some other mags... the 2 Marvel Mags and the Kevin MAguire book all came form the same dealer and were $2 a pop, the Zombie issue looks to be signed and dated by Tony Isabella from '96. Next some comic issues... -M

First batch of books..including 2 of the books I was specifically targeting today... Kull #1 (completes the run) and Showcase #102 (completes the Hawkman run form that era) The Kull was 50% off so ended up costing me $6.50, the Showcase was less than $2 ($2 at 20% off from the art dealer I got the Norem print from). The Brother Power the Geek #2 was marked $20 but was in an all books $5 box so got it for $5, same with the Demon #3. The Jonny Quests were $3 each, that dealer was pushing them because of the Future Quest series coming out but nobody else at the show had any copies of any issues so I picked up a few to fill some holes. The Nightmaster Showcase issue and the Chilling Adventures in Sorcery were $2 each as well. Batch #2... Tarzan #209 was $5 (3rd DC Tarzan, everything else was $2 or under... next up the dollar books... -M

All books here were $1 each form True Comics #21 from Feb 1943 (complete) to Paper Girls #1 published in the last year and everything in between... I just couldn't pass up a Golden Age book for a buck More for a dollar... lots of Bronze Age goodness, 2 of the 4 John Carter issues I needed, some Atlas books, some Ka-Zar from Astonishing Tales, Ghost Rider and more.. and yet more $1 books... including FF #96 and 103 some Gold Key and DC Tarzans and more... -M

and now for the really cheap stuff, the 3/$1 comics... a good chunk of the Ka-Zar the Savage run and... some 90s Ghost Riders to fill in some holes on that run on the cheap. And that's it. About 2/3 of a short box wirth of comics plus mags, trades and a print. Was a biut bummed there were no vintage toy dealers, but maybe next time... -M

Hit up a couple comic book stores and got some cool stuff. Besides a handful of Archie issues I needed, I ended up buying a bunch of 50 cent and $1 books.
Better still, though, one of the stores was doing a blowout sale on sets of comics. They had all these pre-packaged runs of 4 or 8 or 20 issues or whatever of various series, at a bulk rate. But apparently they just needed to clear out space, because a bunch of the sets were marked down to $1 for the set!
I got the following for $1 per set - not per issue, but for each of these entire sets:
The Comet #1-18 Terminal City #1-9 Terminal City: Aerial Graffiti #1-5 Vext #1-6 American Splendor #1-4 (Vertigo) Blackhawk #1-3 (Chaykin tpb mini) Young Liars #1-8
Among the 50 cent books I also got a coverless copy of Superman #199 (Superman vs. Flash race!), a trashed copy of Action Comics #309 missing the back cover (JFK appearance!), and a copy of Action #303 missing the lettercolumn, but with the stories intact.
Perhaps the best find in the 50 cent box was a coverless copy of Marvel Tales Annual #1! It's also missing the first wrap, but everything else is there, reprinting the first appearances of the major Marvel characters from 1964. It also has the photos of the Marvel Bullpen. My girlfriend has been showing me how to do some crafting stuff, so I may end up chopping up some of the damaged parts to make some cool comic book related stuff. I mean, I wouldn't want to make a comic-book themed knick-knack out of an Amazing Fantasy #15, but I might not mind cutting up a trashed, coverless reprint of it. If I end up making anything out of it, I'll show it here.

Ok, couldn't resist that sweet B1G1 Marvel sale @ Comixology, so I hunted down some more Golden and Silver age gems before the sale ended.
Picked up Marvel Boy # 1, Marvel Comics # 1, Menace # 11, Strange Tales # 135-150, Tales of Suspense # 27, 35, Venus # 1, and Yellow Claw # 1

Also attended the Buckeye Comicon on Sunday, where I got to meet up with the esteemed mrp and do a little comic hunting. Biggest two buys of the day are the top row of the below photo. Werewolf by Night #2 in F+ for $16 and Conan the Barbarian #15 in F/F+ for $12. The other two books in the picture (CtB #21 and DD #76) were both $5. Grabbed a bunch of 80's and 90's Marvel Annuals also. The CtB Annual #5 pictured below was $3, while the #6 was less than $1 (it was part of a 6 for $5 deal). Also got (unpictured) Spectacular Spider-Man Annuals #5 & 6 and Incredible Hulk #12 as part of the 6 for $5 deal, and snagged FF Annuals #26 and 27 for $.33 each (part of a 3 for $1 deal). Picked up 25 issues of the 80's/90's/early 00's The Flash (pictured) and 12 issues of the Nu52 Flash series (not pictured) for $1 or less each. Also got Flash #1 for $2 and Flash #100 for $3. The Warlock Masterworks volume #1 pictured below cost just $10 (??) and the Thor Essential and Fables 1001 Nights of Snowfall TPB were each $5, while the two Captain America Essentials in the second picture below were also $5 each (these are for my 10 1/2 year old; she now has the Cap Essentials #3 - 7). Grabbed some other random books here and there, most of them for $1. Nothing exciting, but they were either hole-fillers (MTU #144 and 147, CtB #116, Fairest #2, Ruse #2), replacement copies (Spider-Woman #37) or things that caught my eye and were cheap enough for me not to care if they aren't any good (Mockingbird One-Shot #1, Codename: Baboushka #1-4).
