Also attended the Buckeye Comicon on Sunday, where I got to meet up with the esteemed mrp and do a little comic hunting. Biggest two buys of the day are the top row of the below photo. Werewolf by Night #2 in F+ for $16 and Conan the Barbarian #15 in F/F+ for $12. The other two books in the picture (CtB #21 and DD #76) were both $5. Grabbed a bunch of 80's and 90's Marvel Annuals also. The CtB Annual #5 pictured below was $3, while the #6 was less than $1 (it was part of a 6 for $5 deal). Also got (unpictured) Spectacular Spider-Man Annuals #5 & 6 and Incredible Hulk #12 as part of the 6 for $5 deal, and snagged FF Annuals #26 and 27 for $.33 each (part of a 3 for $1 deal). Picked up 25 issues of the 80's/90's/early 00's The Flash (pictured) and 12 issues of the Nu52 Flash series (not pictured) for $1 or less each. Also got Flash #1 for $2 and Flash #100 for $3. The Warlock Masterworks volume #1 pictured below cost just $10 (??) and the Thor Essential and Fables 1001 Nights of Snowfall TPB were each $5, while the two Captain America Essentials in the second picture below were also $5 each (these are for my 10 1/2 year old; she now has the Cap Essentials #3 - 7). Grabbed some other random books here and there, most of them for $1. Nothing exciting, but they were either hole-fillers (MTU #144 and 147, CtB #116, Fairest #2, Ruse #2), replacement copies (Spider-Woman #37) or things that caught my eye and were cheap enough for me not to care if they aren't any good (Mockingbird One-Shot #1, Codename: Baboushka #1-4). Great books.

You did good buying the Essential Captain America trades. I wouldn't mind buying a couple off of amazon or at a comic shop but I'm still focusing on the original uncanny x men and the Wolverine volume 2 1990s stuff at the moment

I have a complete run of Captain America in floppies, but my daughter is a big fan of Cap as well so this is a way to keep her hands out of my collection.

I'm closing in on a complete run beginning with Cap 100. I probably need less than a dozen. I have no intention of collecting the Golden Age material, but I haven't decided whether or not to collect Tales Of Suspense. Do you own those issues too?

I own none of the Golden Age issues in any format. I own all of the Tales of Suspense issues in Masterworks format. If you are interested in the ToS stuff, check out my Captain America review thread, as I'm working my way through his adventures from the beginning at Marvel.

Traded in a pile of paperbacks and other unwanted books at Half PRice Books and picked up a handful of cheap comics while I was there...
Battle of the Planets: Mark One shot (Image; Ross cover) The Book of Fate 2-5 DC Comics Presents Annual 2 (introducing Superwoman) World's Finest 232 The Spirit (Kitchen Sink) 5, 6 What If? #4 (What is Invaders stayed together post-WWII?) Spectre 4 (Ostrander/MAndrake series) Daredevil: Man Without Fear 3 Hellstorm 6 Thunda Tales (Frazatta collection from Fantagraphics) A Corben Special: Edgar Allan Poe (from Pacific Comics) Flash Gordon 2 recent King/Dynmaite series) Phantom 2 (recent King/Dynamie series)
most were a $1 each, some 25 cents (the What If and Thunda issues were $3 each).

Perhaps the best find in the 50 cent box was a coverless copy of Marvel Tales Annual #1! It's also missing the first wrap, but everything else is there, reprinting the first appearances of the major Marvel characters from 1964. It also has the photos of the Marvel Bullpen. My girlfriend has been showing me how to do some crafting stuff, so I may end up chopping up some of the damaged parts to make some cool comic book related stuff. I mean, I wouldn't want to make a comic-book themed knick-knack out of an Amazing Fantasy #15, but I might not mind cutting up a trashed, coverless reprint of it. If I end up making anything out of it, I'll show it here. As promised, I have been trying to make something out of this ruined Marvel Tales Annual #1. I've been using panels from it to make little wooden boxes. I'm still working on them, but this is what I have so far:

I'm still working on them, but this is what I have so far: I've seen a few things done like this-one was short boxes done with decoupage and laminate using old comics panels, and another was tables (much like the one your boses are sitting on) done that way (the couple who does Comic Trips on youtube found a store in Jersey that sold them and bought a pair of them to use as a showcase for their hauls in the videos). I like these boxes too. -M

Had a little left over from the stuff I traded in this weekend, so went to the local antique mall-it's in 2 buildings on 2 connected lots, last time I was there I went to the larger building (building 2), but today checked out the other building and had a productive trip. Picked up a bunch of stuff-most of it was $1 though a few were $1.50 and couple were $2... New Gods 13 (from the 70s revival) Omega Men 19, 27 Legion of the Night 2 Shang Chi: Master of Kung Fu #6 (Max) Kirby's Phantom Force #1 (polybagged w/card) blame Bronze Age Brian for that one ) Dark Horse Presents 71 (including Bacchus by Eddie Campbell and a Jodo/Moebius serial) Grimjack 21 American Flagg! 10 Twisted Tales 3 (Corben cover) Demon 4 (Matt Wagner series, completes mini for me) Green Lantern 144 (1st series, Perez cover) Spider-Woman 26 Hawkman (90s series) 2, 3 Human Fly 11, 15, 17 Super Powers ('84 series) 1 KIRBY! Tomb of Dracula 69 Werewolf by Night 40 Our Fighting Forces 157 (Kirby Losers) Unexpected 170 JL of A 124, 261 (JSA x-over and final issue) and because we have been talking toy-based ocmics so much in some threads recently M.A.S.K #1 (from DC-never read it or saw the showbefore but am intrigued by talk in another thread) Saga of Crystar #1 Rom #8 and also found a loose 2004 Playmates Usagi Yojimbo figure (minus accessories unfortunately) for only $1 so snagged it. I was tempted, one dealer has Battle of the Planets action figures I had never seen before, but they were $25 bucks a pop so I passed. I was also tempted by the Matt Wagner Grendel and Mike Allred Madman action figures the same dealer had, but they were even more. -M

Love those boxes! I have a small stack of coverless or beater books from which I have cut out some of the nicer images. I need to find a way to incorporate them into some kind of craft and this seems effective (I also though about covering my longboxes with them).
As for purchases, I just scored a full set of Marvel Secret Wars (including the always pricey #8) for a mere $15! Condition will be up in the air but I remain hopeful! Have wanted to read this series (particularly the origin of the black suit) for a long time.

The book is new but it reprints material that can't be found in its original form : Tarzan vs the nazis!
I doubt it's possible to distill the concept of "adventure" to a higher degree than with such a title! This is volume three in Titan Books presentation of the Burne Hogarth Tarzan Sunday pages. I am more of a Russ Manning guy myself because of childhood imprinting, but Hogarth's work is amazingly impressive too!
