So this is what I brought home from the "bargain basement" at one of the local shops today (Bookery Fantasy for the curious)
Breaking it down, there were some classic comic strip reprint collections...
-Alex Raymond's Flash Gordon Volume 5 & 7 (Checkers Edition) (normally $19.95 msrp, Vol. 5 was $5, 7 was $7.95)
-Milton Caniff's Terry and the Pirates (from the Flying Buttress Classics Library by NBM) Vol. 7 (1938) and Vol. 12 (1941-42) both 50% off msrp)
a bunch of Heavy Metal issues from 1980-1982, each $2.95 (filling in about 2/3 of what I needed from those years)...
a pair of Savage Sword of Conan issues (146 & 152), Marvel Super Special #9 (SSOC in color w/Red Sonja), and an issue of Back Issue featuring Bronze Age adaptations (The Shadow, Korak, Battlestar Galactica, Black Hole, 2001, etc.) all also $2.95 each
a few other magazine issues...
including...
-Heavy Metal Presents Azrach by Moebius (from 1977; my one splurge at the main shop) $10
-Blazing Combat #2 (Frazetta cover), Eclipse Magazine #7 and Star* Reach #18 (all $2.95 each)
-the Jan 1977 issue of Delap's F&SF Review (a 'zine I had never heard of before) with the cover feature on Sword & Sorcery: From Howard to Hilarty ($1)
-the spring 1979 issue of Asimov's SF Adventure Magazine (including a full color pull out poster of that cover by Paul Alexander ($1)
one trade...
-Jack Kirby's Silver Star Graphite Edition from TwoMorrows (msrp $19.95, priced at $7.50)
and the first batch of $1 books...
including:
-Dalgoda #5 (completes series)
-Battle of the Planets 1/2, Jason 1 shot, and 5 of the 6 issues of the Princess mini-series
-5 of the 6 issues of Book of Fate I needed to complete the series
-Star*Reach Classics #6 (featuring PCR's Parsifal)
-Topp's Jack Kirby's Silver Star #1
-3 issues of Omega Men (working towards completing the run)
batch 2 of the $1 books, including...
-Kamandi #43
-Tarzan Family #63
-George Perez's Sirens #2
-Howard the Duck #10
-Challengers of the Unknown #84
-3 Tellos 1-shots and 1 issue of Tales of Tellos, I adore the original series by DeZago and Wiringo, but never got the follow up stuff after the passing of Wieringo, but for a $1 each I couldn't pass it up)
-Ghost Rider #68
-Silverblade #11
-Official Index to Hawlman #2 (completes series for me)
-Bill Sienkewicz's adaptation of Moby Dick from Classics Illustrated
and the third batch of $1 books...
including:
-Swords of Valor #1 that I highlighted above
-a silver age (12 center) Huckleberry Hound issue from Gold Key (#33 from April 1968)
-Sun Runners #6
-Atari Force #8 & 10
-the recent Jungle Jim mini (#1-4) from King/Dynamite featuring the Darwyn Cooke designs and cover for #1
-and finally, the Darwyn Cooke variant (from the month he was he featured variant cover artist) for Green Lantern
I almost bought Blazing Combat #1 as well, but it was a super-high grade copy at the main shop not in the magazine bargain bins and was priced a little higher than I wanted to spend.
