So the days comic haul from C4 (Champion City Comics Con (see toy thread for commissions and toys) Start with acutual newer stuff, the Halloween Comicfest giveaways, and an issue of Dark Horse Presents I bought form recent winner of the Harvey Award for most promising new talent Chad LAmbert that featurres the first installment of his Kill or Be Killed story, signed by Chad. I've known Chad for a few years and even attended a roast of him a few years back at a previous C4, but I like his stuff and wanted to support his books so grabbed this from him today. Now for the classic stuff... A pair of Treasuries...Conan and Tarzan... a bargain at $15 for the pair. a bunch of $5 trades... lots of classic Marvel-the Epic Collection for Waid's Cap, the early Thor, Monster of Frankenstein, Lee/Kirby Inhumans, Howard the Duck, a Shodow double novel, Starlin and Lim's Infinity Finale, and Saga vol. 5. They were $6 each of 4 for $20, so I snagged 2 groups of 4. A bunch of mags... the Unknown Worlds of Science Fiction cost a 5 spot, the rest were $1 each. There's a Marvel Index for Conan there I had never seen before that sports of gorgeous cover by Tim Conrad. a batch of $1 books... finished off the DC Tor run by Kubert, got a handful of Phantom issues plus Kamandi, Tarzan, and 1 of the 4 Jonny Quest issues I needed to complete the Comico run. more $1 books, this time some Charlton stuff, Yang and Vengeance Squad... and a third batch of $1 books, this time a big ole pile of Rom issues, about 2/3 of what I needed to complete the run... These were just some fun pick ups out of a 3/$1 box, I couldn't pass up the Rocketeer book, and grabbed the Archie digest sto make it an even $1... The last batch of books ranged form $10 to $25 each on sticker price, but the delaer had them all in a box for $3 each, so I grabbed a bunch of them... a few Phantom issues, a couple of early Kamandi issues and a Kubert Tarzan issue. So plenty added to my read piles along with some cool new art commissions and a couple of toys. Also got to see that Flash Gordon rarity I posted about int he con thread, meet up with some old acquaintances and talk comics, art, gaming, etc. for the day, so all in all, a good day at the con. -M PS with the 2 issues of Savage Sword of Conan I picked up today, I am down to an even dozen issues needed to complete the run. Great haul mrp ! I saw that Conan index last weekend at OAF CON for $ 30. Tempted but passed on it. Truly beautiful. You scored some great pieces here.

Some recent pick ups. Figured I should jump on any Captain Marvel in nice shape...this one was around $15. The Warlock was super cheap for such a nice cover. The Batman issues are some I needed, especially 291, I am looking forward to reading that one.
All of these are excellent ! Congrats !

I was browsing eBay today, looking for some low-grade (but not too low-grade) copies of the Detective Comics I don't have and I came across this: Detective Comics #358. It looks pretty dumb. Al hail the New Look! I hope the Elongated Man story is drawn by Murphy Anderson. And I came across a beat-up copy of Strange Tales #166: Only four dollars! It's listed as G+. And I got an issue of OMAC (either #3 or #4). A friend of mine had OMAC #1 when I was a kid and I thought it was one of the strangest things I'd ever seen. Aside from that one time, I've never read any OMAC, but I think about that first issue a lot, especially since I find out about the Kamandi connection. (I think OMAC is Kamandi's grandfather. Is that right?) And I also ordered some fairly recent issues of Wonder Woman, all from the New 52 era, #21, #22, #31, #33 and #36. So I'm only missing one issue of New 52 Wonder Woman, #23! And the annual. I need that. It should all be making its way home in a few days.

After two long years of waiting, I finally saw Jack Kirby's Fourth World Omnibus volumes 2 and 4 in hardcover drop to prices I was willing to pay tonight. With my Discover cashback award, they came to $80 a piece. Three days ago they were still over $200 a piece. FINALLY have all four volumes

And I came across a beat-up copy of Strange Tales #166. Only four dollars! It's listed as G+. That Strange Tales looks nice. I love the way that the last year of Doctor Strange in Silver Age Strange Tales is full of random weird dudes. Like the Living Tribunal. And Nebulos. And Yandroth. Voltorg looks like a worthy contestant in the Random Weird Dude Sweepstakes. This guy is from a little bit earlier but he certainly fulfills the criteria to be a random weird due in Strange Tales: Gaze upon Zom, ye mighty, and despair!

Picked up a TON of books on the cheap from the show I went to recently. Lots of Kazar, Thor, Airboy, some Spidey, Green Arrow and a slew of others. Will probably post pictures tomorrow when I have access to them.

I had a fairly small shopping budget for the Jet City show (which seemed to have fewer actual comics vendors than in previous years) and spent every penny of it at the ever-reliable Randy's Readers' Comics. I ended up with 30 comics for $33. This year's quest was for Marvel annuals from the '70s and '80s (I have all the '60s Annuals/Specials). I picked up: The Amazing Spider-Man Annual 17-19 Captain America Annual 5-6 (5 has great art by Gene Colan and Dave Simons) Conan the Barbarian Annual 5-6 (John Buscema art in 5, Gil Kane in 6) Fantastic Four Annual 11 (guest-starring the Invaders), 14-15 (Dr. Doom backup by Tom Sutton in 15) Incredible Hulk Annual 7 (by John Byrne, guest-snoring Angel and Iceman), 9-11 (Ditko art in one of 'em, can't recall which) Iron Man Annual 3, 5 Marvel Team-Up Annual 3, 5 Marvel Two-in-One Annual 3, 5 Power Man Annual 1-and-only (art by Lee Elias) The Spectacular Spider-Man Annual 1, 3 Tarzan Annual 1-2 (great John Buscema/Steve Gan art in 1) X-Men Annual 3 (art by Perez and Austin), 6-8 plus Action Comics 421 (2nd appearance of Popeye analog Captain Strong--I plan to collect all 6) DC Special 28 (Earth-Shattering Didasters starring Batman, Aquaman, and the Legion) That last one was a total impulse buy. It was taped to the front of one of Randy's longboxes right at my eye level. I saw it and told my niece "I must own this!" So there we have it: a nice little stack of mostly plus-sized comics I have no time to actually read. Such is life for collectors who become professional comics historians. Breaks your heart, doesn't it? Cei-U! I summon the sweet haul!

So there we have it: a nice little stack of mostly plus-sized comics I have no time to actually read. Sounds like about 1500 of my books. I haven't started to read Amazing Spider-Man Vol 4 yet (other than #1) but I own all 20 or so issues of the regular numbering. I'm not sure about the decimal point issues stuck between, those are damn annoying I tell you. But the nice thing about comics. They are patient.

Couple of days ago I bought original Uncanny X Men issue 244 for 8 bucks from the comic book shop. Not bad of a price fir an old single back issue but still a little expensive. Guess the price was like that since 244 is the debut first appearance of Jubilee

Guess the price was like that since 244 is the debut first appearance of Jubilee I was at an antique store a few weeks ago and they had a big old run of continuous Claremont X-men books. I got #244 and Jim Lee's first art on the series with #248 for $5 a piece. Already had them but these were in excellent condition so I grabbed them. Alas the only issue that wasn't there in a straight run was #266...the 1st appearance of Gambit.
