I just bought these 2 old Marvel Comics Index Magazines from 1976. They were listed on eBay in VF-NM condition. I never owned any of these index books and really know nothing about them, but fell in love with these 2 covers. Jim Steranko did the FF cover art, I have no idea who did the Thor cover art but it is absolutely gorgeous!! That brings back memories. I had both of these when they were new. They were invaluable in the 1970s when you couldn't just look online to find out stuff about old issues of your favorite comics.

I just ordered this from eBay: I don't know a thing about it. It's just one of the issues of Detective Comics I don't have and it was listed at $8.50 for a VG copy.

Was doing a little traveling for work this week and found myself near Hagerstown, MD on my return home, so I scoped out one of the shops there online and stopped by. They were having a sale on all back issues, most of them 50% while the higher end ones were 25%. Didn't get any of the big ticket books, but I did pick up:
Fantastic Four #85 - back cover has some serious foxing and the pages aren't even close to white, but it's intact, the staples are still tight, it's a Lee/Kirby Doom story, and it was $5. Could not pass it up. Flash (post-Crisis) - #'s 66, 164 (First Geoff Johns issue), 166, and 208 - total for these was $9 Aquaman (nu52) - a handful of issues at the end of the series that I missed because I dropped it, but for $1 each, I'll grab them and finish out the series.
There was a copy of Iron Fist #1 in gorgeous condition for $45 (and it would have been 50%), which I took up to the counter. Before I could even ask to look at it, the owner opened the bag and told me that he wanted to show me the back cover, which was missing a good 1/4" of the upper-left corner. I already own the story in a Masterworks, so I didn't buy it, but I really appreciated him being upfront about it and not waiting to see if I asked about it. Definitely a shop I will stop back to visit next time I'm in the area, all because of his integrity.

Treated myself with most of the Christmas money I got and bought this book last night. Yes they were open on Christmas from 4 p.m.-9 p.m. Everything in the store was on sale so I got a nice deal on this. Only 20 out of 700 Amazing Spideys left to get.

Those early ASMs are really becoming tremendously difficult to acquire. I have the first part of this thriller and the issue following, which introduces Mysterio, but this one has eluded me. It's got a great cover and the story is really deftly executed. There is no cheat as often happened with some of DCs more shocking covers of this period. Congratulations, and I hope you complete your run!

I had some extra funds and was going to go back and get the Mysterio issue the following week but it was gone. Just my luck. I do enjoy the thrill of the hunt though.

And many (including me) would say that Kraven is the more interesting villain, so I think you chose wisely. Is that a Kraven joke?

I'm not familiar with CBCS but then I have a CGC bias where slabs are concerned (although they're not perfect either). Nice pickup....I *might* make some headway into filling a few Spidey gaps next year.

I'm not going to talk much about it because everytime in the past whenever slabbing is brought up it leads to arguments. Good luck in filling those gaps in your collection. 😃

I'm not going to talk much about it because everytime in the past whenever slabbing is brought up it leads to arguments. Oh yeah. I've been in some of those...I've got slabbed books including a 9.6 Signature Series signed by Stan Lee but the're still just a tiny % (<2%) of my overall collection.

What is this "slabbing" that you speak of? Is it an off shoot of sludge metal? No? You mean you just don't leave your comics lying around in random cardboard boxes under your bed like I used to... 20 years ago. slabbing is slang for getting a comic professionally graded and encased in a hard plastic shell from CGC, PGX, or CBCS. If the case is opened, the professional grade becomes null and void. 20 years ago, my collection - I was actually made a co-owner of several thousand comics which are over the pond in England - was packed into boxes, cupboards, closets, cabinets, several unused fridges, the attic, and I also had several hundred in the official Jez loo. I kept other girlie things under my bed, like all my Duran Duran magazines, records etc. But I wasn't as fussy or finicky as I am now
