So my auction win of the Escalofrio lot arrived, along with a few things I added to round out the order... that's the Steve Rude Space Ghost issue, I bought it off the stand when it came out but lost it somewhere in one of my moves, the last two issues of the 90s Hawkman series finishing off that series for me, the first issue of Battle of the Planets Manga finishing off that mini series for me, and an issue of Alter Ego focusing on sword & sorcery comics. -M

Yeah, it gets harder as you get to the last few. Maybe next year I'll have the 200's eliminated and can zero in on the earlier books. The budget is the thing, I don't want to spend over 3 bucks on any issue.

I got a copy of Thor #161 about 10 years ago and it was $5, and it's not in fantastic shape, and those books are only getting pricier. Be patient, stick to your guns, and hopefully you'll get the books you want at the prices you want. If you ever want to send me your list, I'll keep an eye out at my usual haunts for any of the issues you're hunting.

I pulled the trigger and ordered Detective Comics #298 off eBay. It's been a few months since I bought any old issues of Detective Comics. I have every issue of Detective Comics from #285 to the present EXCEPT #298. It's kind of pricey because it has the first appearance of the second Clayface. I was waiting for the holidays, figuring I could make it a Christmas present to myself. I was looking at eBay and checking the prices to get an idea what it would cost me. I was originally planning to wait until early January. But I came across a pretty beat-up copy (listed as 1.8 in condition) that was $120. And it's pretty beat up! The spine is torn from the bottom to the first staple. The edges have taken a beating. And somebody wrote all over it! Robin's eye is blacked out. And a previous owner went to town on the logo! They drew stripes on the lettering in "Detective Comics." I think I'll be taking a break from buying old Detective for a while. When I get it, I'll have more than 700 consecutive issues of Detective Comics! (I'm not quite ready to start reading every issue starting with #285. For one thing it takes an hour to read a single issue. With the free time I have now, I would probably be reading two or three issues a week and it would take five or six months just to get to the start of the New Look!

Today was the warehouse sale for one of our local shops (Bell, Book & Comic). It was fill a short box for $20 or fill a long box for $40. I filled 2 short boxes and grabbed some 3/$10 trades too. I won't be able to go through and list what was in the boxes until Tuesday, my day off, but there was a lot of Dark Horse Presents, some Grimjack, some Scout, some Kelly Jones Batman issues, some DC Star Trek, and lots more. I also picked up a couple of carded Hawkman action figures (1st appearance DC and Identity Crisis DC) for $10 each and a $5 boxed plush Merv Pumpkinhead from Roma Collectibles (run by one of our con friends) who was set up there.

I was enticed by some sales and an opportunity to make an offer recently. I got three DC Special Series '70s titles in the mail late last week: Wonder Woman Spectacular (#9), Flash Spectacular (#11), and Batman Spectacular (#15). I still don't 'get' Wonder Woman really, not a character I have ever warmed or related to for whatever reason. Maybe if Alex Toth did it I would like her then but seriously, every issue I've tried has been pretty much a bust outside of #300. I guess that's the only WW comic I'll ever really need. Sorry. I'll keep this Spectacular for the pages of Ditko alone basically. Yes, I tried Trina's and also Perez when he started on it, but the character just has no appeal for me.
The Flash and Batman issues I had before and are still the great comics I remembered, so it's nice to have them again! I already had Special Series #10 with Secret Origins. Also in the same bunch were: DC Special #26 & 27 (Dinosaurs and Disasters issues respectively), Detective Comics #468 (Marshall Rogers & Terry Austin), Hulk #176, Thor #257 & 258 continuing the run a little further (#223-234, 243-258, 267, 271, 300 & Annual #6) and Fantastic Four #190 & 191 going backwards in that run (#190-221, Annual #12 & 13).
I've got some comics reading in store for awhile now, no more listening for a doorbell for awhile now.

However I just couldnt pass on one of these, the first Ive seen on TradeMe, now Im wishing Id pulled the trigger on ROM 1-3 which I lost to some other bidder yesterday.

Every December I pull the trigger and get things on eBay to complete runs that I am collecting. I have 2 eBay wins coming my way in the next week or so.
