My brother went to a yard sale this morning for me. Sadly he knows very little about comics so he can’t scout stuff out as great but I’d say he did pretty good. He called me and I guided him a bit to. Spent a buck a piece on everything seen. I’m most stoked about the Shadow issues as I now have em all! Nice! What's that book between The Super Cops and The Atom? I’m super stoked to get them when I visit him this summer. Most are in good shape, a couple are beat like the House of Mystery which is missing the back cover and a couple others are heavily worn. Overall can’t conplain for a buck a piece. As for that random issue, the guy selling the books added some stuff to the pile for my brother . He threw that in telling my brother that he guaranteed I would not have in my collection. Well he was right. It’s issue two of an indy comic called Geriatric Gangrene Jujitsu Gerbils. Love it!

Fantastic Four #s 192-203 and annuals 12-14, as contained in these two books: Both were steals: the first cost me a little less than $9 (with postage) and the second a little less than $8 (again, with postage). They sort of complete a set for me, as a few years ago, I got this one for a similarly low price (can't remember exactly, but it was less than $10): At some point, I'm hoping to just read all of these straight through together with the first two thirds of Byrne's run, which I have in the visionaries volumes.

Just picked up a lot of Phantom issues in the most recent Lonestar auction that ended tonight... will likely round out an order with a few more things to maximize the flat rate shipping charge. -M

Was at Half Price books today getting rid of a few bags of old reference books we no longer have a use for, and ended up picking up a few things... a pair of Pogo collections... and after the rumbles countdown I realized I wanted to explore more of the Segar Popeye strips and saw these two volumes, which I snagged... as well as a handful of vintage paperbacks-some Doc Savage, some Bond, some Doctor Who, some Trek, some Tarzan and a few miscellania (including the novelization of the first Shaft movie, it's a bad mofo...) -M

I suspect the latter.

Is it actually a novelization or is it the novel that the movie was based on? I suspect the latter. Not 100% certain to be honest, it was this edition which used a movie still as the cover art and had the MGM film credits under the cover art, but it is the novel by Tidyman... -M

I’ve not read it, but my understanding is it’s fairly different from the film. Tidyman apparently did seven Shaft novels. Be the first on your block to collect them all.

Yeah, I liked a lot of the stuff from the '70s that I've managed to read - e.g., I really liked the Galactus story drawn by John Buscema that was collected in a treasury edition later, and I generally enjoyed most of the stories Wolfman penned (as evidenced by my purchases highlighted above), although that run is often panned in certain circles. The only FF issues from that period that I really didn't like very much were in that run by Moench and Sienkiewicz sandwiched between the Wolfman and Byrne runs.

Agreed. The Moench and Sienkiewicz run had a horror feel and the art didn't fit the FF style.

Didn't think I'd find them at a price I could afford but happy to say Detective #474, 475 and 476 are on their way! If all goes well that means a nice little run from #468-482, and some of them are top grade with the lowest (#475, the most popular Joker one) being FN+! Actually my #473 I would rate as VG-FN sold as FN+, but at the low price I didn't quibble at all, and aside from some creases on the front cover it's tight and clean. Not that I'm a condition fanatic, but I enjoy a comic more that is sharp and shiny. So what's this laughing fish stuff about?

I just went to a blowout overstock sale at my LCS, mostly DC and Vertigo stuff. What I actually bought, though, was mostly from the other 10% of random comics. The weirdest purchase had to be a Marvel comic I have never heard of before, from 1993, called The Life of Christ. As far as I can tell, this was produced for Christian book stores. There's no advertising, and the inside covers are blank. Pus, the bar code has an ISBN number. Usually with this sort of thing I expect to see Z-list creators on the book, so I was surprised to discover this is from the creative team of Louise Simonson and Mary Wilshire. According to Google, there's apparently a second issue called The Easter Story. Weird! I also got a promotional comic from the 1950's called The Story Behind Your Liberty! Seemed thematically appropriate for today.

So what's this laughing fish stuff about? It's about the best Joker story of the Bronze Age.
