Yikes! I did a quick tally and saw that I picked up 17 Thor books in the month of December. In my best Stan Lee-scripted Elizabethan English voice...(and exactly how does that work for Norse mythology?) ”Forsooth, varlet— methinks thou dost have a fly in one’s ointment worthy of vexing even sly Loki’s mettle”Dr. Stephen Strange translation: By the hoary hosts of Hoggoth, you may have a problem, pal. It’s not a problem, it’s a solution.

Went to my lcs today to pick up the last month's worth of stuff, but stopped in the used bookstore in the same village and picked up a few things. All their regular priced back issues were 20% off. If you spent $25 you got a free $5 gift card as well. Plus they have quarter bins and cheap trades, and even a box of freebies outside on the sidewalk that you can take what you like. This is what I ended up getting... from their regular priced back issues, I got these 5 issues of the 2002 Catwoman series... each was either $2.50 or $3 before the 20% discount. Then out of their bargain trades box I got these two... Justice League Nightmare tpb for a buck, and... Strangers in Paradise pocket edition Vol. 3 (I had 1 and 2 already) On their shelf of comic book prose novels I found this little gem... it was only $4, and I hadn't seen it anywhere for less than $10 before (Lonestar wants $40 for a nice copy of it) I dug out a bunch of stuff from the quarter bins too, a near complete run of Terminal City and one of its sequels. and these... 5 issues of Birds of Prey, a handful of the Baxter Teen Titans series, an issue of Detective, one of Superman, a couple of animated tie in books and another issue fo Gene Day's Black Zeppelin. I had a little extra cash from a Christmas bonus, but I wanted to keep in under $30, and I did, but hit the $25 mark, so got the gift card for next time I stop in. And then on the way out, I hit the freebie box, no comics, but some great genre stuff... a Mickey Spillane novel, a Man from U.N.C.L.E. novel, a Fleming Bond paperback, and ahalf dozen issues of sci-fi/fantasy pulps/mags. Glad I stopped in. -M

This is the big one. My wife got me this for Christmas The cover looks like a 8.5 but it has a significant spine split. It's okay, because it was listed as a mid to lower grade book, if I remember correctly.

Okay, I'll admit that I made a hog out of myself this month as far as being comics. I got this lot of Action Comics from eBay.

I have been struggling this year so I didn't buy any ancient issues of Detective Comics since January. However I splurged for Christmas and bought this from eBay! It's Detective Comics #281! It's 1960, Eisenhower is president … and Batman is a robot again! Gotta love Robin in the corner looking SHOCKED, partly covering his mouth because he has good manners and knows to cover your mouth when you are so SHOCKED that you open your mouth. He was doing that A LOT in this era. In addition to Batman … Roy Raymond and the Martian Manhunter! It should show up in the mail in a few days.

I remember seeing that in book stores in the 1970s when I was scanning the sci-fi/fantasy section looking for Doc Savage or Edgar Rice Burroughs novels I hadn't read. I think I had a vague idea that the Challs came from the comic books but I had never read them and I don't recall wanting to read the novel. Now? I would put down this biography of Booker T. Washington I've been reading and spend a few hours reading a Challs novel in a heartbeat!

Thor was never better than the Hercules storyline that ended with Thor battling the gathered hordes of Pluto so Hercules wouldn't have to be King of Hell.

One of my favorite things in comics PERIOD is Supergirl - The Midvale Orphanage Years. And I have a few very beat-up issues of Superboy that I bought because I think Superbaby is HILARIOUS! I don't know if I've read any of these issues you have here (The Super-Enemies look familiar) but I know they must be gloriously magnificently proudly DUMB!

Yeah, those books are very simple and done in one, usually.

Father Christmas bought me: and Number One Son got a couple of Tintin books: Destination Moon and Explorers on the Moon - in English Number One Daughter is pissed off with me because I bought Number Two Daughter a copy of Persepolis which she has wanted to read for ages but was mollified when Number Two said she could read it - and the copy of Sensible Footwear: A Girl's Guide her grandad bought her. My mum got a copy of Asterix the Gaul - in Italian. The only person in the family who didn't get a comic book (or two - my wife buys indy/creator comics at cons to give to the kids at Christmas so they had several weird one-offs to read) was my wife. She had to make do with a comic artist's debut novel. Bunny Vs Monkey creator Jamie Smart's Flember. A good day.
