I'm working on this run also, as well as continuing on past it with the sporadic stories in later issues. It's such a great series. It was pointed out here recently that reading multiple stories back-to-back reveals a sort of sameness. I've found that to be true, so I am pacing myself. I'm missing Our Army at War 153 & 155, Showcase 57, and Star-Spangled 142-145, but I don't mind a little friendly competition . Good luck with your search! If you've never had a chance to read "Enemy Ace: War in Heaven" from 2001, I highly recommend that as well. Basically, Von Hammer is pressed out of retirement for a stint in WWII. A two-issue prestige format series, also available in a trade paperback. Artwork by Russ Heath in issue 2!
Also, I do have the Enemy Ace DC Archives volumes, convenient for reading but not same as the floppies... I miss the musty newsprint smell whenever I read Archive editions!

I still have the doubles available in my stack of stuff to get to for the Classic Comic Exchange once I finish the refurbish of the comic room and get everything sorted and in place. I might have a couple of the ones you need Phil Maurice if you are interested. Most are in Good at best (but I couldn't pass them up at $2 a pop no matter what the grade was). Nice haul! Yes, totally interested. The prospect has my twin spandaus spitting hot lightning! Ping me when you are ready. Thanks!

Savage Tales 1&2 and Savage Sword Of Conan #157 Got some rejects from shopgoodwill.com at work and decided to scoop them up. Was really drawn in by the Savage Tales covers, looks like something straight out of Fleetway/Quality or Heavy Metal. Don't particularly care for Conan all that much, he was just sort of along for the ride

Received the last two parcels from Silver Acre this week, on the 29h and the 30th, despite having shipped with 10 days in between (carriers be crazy): It's shaxper's all time favorite comic book. -M

A few more early '90s Impact comics and a short run of Byrne Wonder Woman from a sale a seller in my home province was having... and a few odds and ends I couldn't resist at around the dollar or two each clearance price. One exception; the late '80s Doom Patrol #1 for $3. Got curious from having the Secret Origins annual that came out just before it (that Byrne guy again).

After getting the first two Love & Rockets collections, Heartbreak Soup and Maggie the Mechanic, a number of years ago and thoroughly enjoying them, for some reason I didn't go any farther (I think at that point I was worried about getting sucked into another extensive series of books, shelf space, etc.). Recently I decided to rectify that and I bought these, all three for very reasonable prices from various online sellers in the UK (actually I bought them in mid-March, but they only arrived yesterday due to what I assume are pandemic-related postal delays): Looking forward to re-reading those first two books and then digging into these - although when that'll happen is anyone's guess given the immensity of my 'to-read' pile...

A few years ago, I was curious about L@R so I got a few collected editions. It didn't do a thing for me.

"Love and Rockets" hit me the same way. Didn't hate it, just didn't grab me as a keeper. I have fellow collector-friends who love it (including my 30 yr-old son)... more power to 'em-- apparently I'm in the minority on my opinion of this title. Terry Moore's "Strangers in Paradise" also falls into this category for me as well. Just can't get into it.
My motto has always been "Collect what YOU like, not what others tell you to like." I'll give any book a couple of chances before I say "no thank you". Friend's recommendations always help, but unless they're paying for my addiction, they're just that-- recommendations.

I had the same experience with Cerebus. I liked the first volume or so and then it turned into talking heads.

I liked the Gilbert H. comics more than the Jaime parts, but then I love a good soap opera and Beto's/Gilbert's had that touch of Dark Shadows. The first few issues of Love & Rockets were more rockets (and monsters and capes and sound effects) but it got into a two main domestic soaps format after that. I suspect those collected books leave out a lot of the fun short comics like Errata Stigmata, Music For Monsters and Rocky & Fumble, or the super short little filler bits, and focus just on Maggie the mechanic and friends or just Palomar. I think a lot of people would be happy with only #1-5 of the L&R magazine. Lots of variety and visual ideas. Here you can see Jaime's Rocky (the gal) & Fumble (the robot) at bottom, and Beto's Music For Monsters.
