I was going to take a break from old Detective Comics for a while. But we're all just sitting around in quarantine and sometimes you need something to get through all theses weeks of sitting around. So I went ahead and bid on Detective Comics #277 because it's the only issue I'm missing between Detective Comics #275 and #1020. And I won the bid. $18 for a 1960 comic listed as G/VG. I don't know what's happening on the cover and I'm not sure Jack Schiff did either. It came in the mail today! Oh, it's bad. The Manhunter from Mars story features a rare super-villain! Mr. Moth! I love the Manhunter's weird little rogues gallery! I want to see Mr. Moth, the Squirrel and Professor Arnold Hugo team up for revenge!

it's strange that some of you have been waiting over 25 days for the package to even leave US shores. That sounds like a logistics priority issue with the sellers. I can't really say if it's left the US, the only thing I know is what tracking tells me, which doesn't have to be accurate (and actually can't if customs are involved at either side). But if I believe that information, we aren't talking 25 days in the case of the parcel coming from NY, but 43! About the only thing the seller can do, other than change carrier in the future, is offer to refund a lost package. I guess we'll get to determining that point over the next week.
Speaking of carriers, not all US shipping behaves the same. USPS is for shit these days, but whatever Mile High is using works normally. They took three weeks to ship, but once they got it out of their warehouse, it's only needed 11 days to clear customs at this side of the pond! I guess I can expect it around next week.

I first obtained a copy of this issue in a 3-pack my parents bought for me in 1995. That copy was lost ages ago, along with almost all the other comics I collected in childhood. This Tuesday, I happened upon another copy in a thrift store and didn't hesitate to snatch it up. I recall enjoying this issue immensely as a kid. Revisiting it, it's obvious I was just wowed by the holographic cover and Mark Bagley's art; the two stories themselves are of interest perhaps to new readers unfamiliar with Spidey's backstory and powers, but pedestrian to everyone else. The comic also originally came with this Ron Lim poster: A previous owner removed it from this copy. Not being a fan of Lim's '90s output, though, I can't say I'm too miffed about the loss.

Sorry for the de-rail-- I actually came here to post that I empathize with our members across the pond regarding delivery woes from USA sellers at the moment. I placed an order with MCS/Lone Star last night, and got the shipping confirmation and tracking number around 2pm today. I've also had other domestic (USA) comics shipments within the last 30 days that didn't see any real delay either. I'm sure that the international delays are likely due to reduced commercial shipping traffic combined with extra delays in customs.
Still, it's strange that some of you have been waiting over 25 days for the package to even leave US shores. That sounds like a logistics priority issue with the sellers.
Personally, I'm not too put out by any of it. I think it's only natural, as I'm sure that, e.g., here in Europe, once the various countries starting putting lockdown orders in place, there was a surge of people ordering stuff online, so the national postal and customs services have their work cut out for them. And in any case, I've learned to be patient. Even though, as I said, most things I order from other European countries or the US/Canada usually arrive in about 2-3 weeks under normal circumstances, there are some vendors whose packages often take far longer to arrive (like BetterWorld Books, based in Indiana - their low prices for used books and free global shipping, as well as frequent 20-25% discount offers, are really tempting for a bargain hunter like me, but packages from them often take almost 2 months to arrive).

I work in the USPS and I have seen an increase in parcels of all sizes in the last few weeks. Almost but not quite, to Christmas levels. Even books that I have ordered on eBay are taking a bit longer to get to me , and I live in the states.

I liked the Gilbert H. comics more than the Jaime parts, but then I love a good soap opera and Beto's/Gilbert's had that touch of Dark Shadows. The first few issues of Love & Rockets were more rockets (and monsters and capes and sound effects) but it got into a two main domestic soaps format after that. I suspect those collected books leave out a lot of the fun short comics like Errata Stigmata, Music For Monsters and Rocky & Fumble, or the super short little filler bits, and focus just on Maggie the mechanic and friends or just Palomar. (...) In the main, that series of collections put together Gilbert/Beto's Palomar stories and Jaime's Locas stories in alternating volumes. There are two of them, though, Amor y Cohetes and Comics Dementia, which collect much of the miscellaneous (i.e., non-Palomar and non-Locas) material from Love & Rockets. Amor y Cohetes is, unfortunately, out of print and used copies are really pricey. I've been looking for Amor Y Cohetes for YEARS at a decent price, no luck.

Monday, I received two orders placed on March 22 & 23 (a little under two weeks using eBay's Global shipping): From the UK. I paid full cover price for this one, but it's in like new condition. These three from an English rose. I basically wanted the Ellis one, but they were a steal at £6 a piece, hence the other two (I don't mind that the Kick-Ass HC has a damaged dust-jacket, at that price point).

I read Starlight sometime last year - it's a pretty enjoyable little story.

This is the only comic I've bought, since I started reading digitally eight years ago, without reading it first. I only browsed the pages in the amazon preview and read the goodreads review. It didn't disappoint. It may not be Millar's most known work, but I liked it better than the similarly themed Empress, despite that one having Immonen onboard. BTW, Parlov's storytelling is just as great, if not his style.

Even books that I have ordered on eBay are taking a bit longer to get to me , and I live in the states. I ordered some Magic: The Gathering cards from a place in Seattle WA a little while back. They sent them out on April 29 using Priority 2-Day Shipping. I got them on May 6, which is a little more than 2 days. I wasn't bothered by it, since I can't go out anywhere and play anyway, and some of the cards were only for my "artwork" binder. We all just have to get used to things being a little different now.

I love the Thor run from #99 to ... I dunno, the first Mangog story? But the heart of it is 125 to around #140. I recently got the digital version of The Epic Collection that reprints #131 to #150 or so and I’ve just started it, so I’ll be getting to 134 soon. Thor was never better. I’m just about to the part where Tana Nile is walking around New York City telling everybody she is Empress Tana I and all these sarcastic New Yorkers are going Sure, you are lady, only da best for da Empress, and Tana has no idea she’s being mocked.
