How would you rate it compared to the original 70s series, and 90s take, along with some of the recent minis (including femme Ghost Rider) A female GR! Why hasnt someone written this before? Is this an ongoing GR title? I haven't seen Adam's art in a while. Seems it's just as good or better. It's a 9 issue run from 2011 which includes the crossover story arc Fear Itself.

Me, I never got over the fact that Ka-Zar stopped wearing fur boots. Who in the bullpen had the foot fetish?

Oh I love Secret Origins #10 (you will see it mentioned from me soon in some event or other that may be happening here), but what they did to "revamp" and "retool" the character in the new52 wiped that out and defined specifically the origin and mission of the Stranger, which was bad enough, but the specifics of that detail were ludicrous themselves on top of it all, the kind of stuff that just puts Didio's career origins in daytime soap opera television front and center. Ohhh sorry, I misunderstood. Haven't read any of the new 52 yet.

One of my bronze-age favourites, GHOST RIDER, has evolved into this...and I DESPISE it. Not the same character though - latest issues have one other of the motorbike GRs in there fighting this one, who turns out to be related to an old GR character... FWIW, I think it's been an interesting take on the concept, and some of the art has been tremendous. The original Ghost Rider was even appearing as a team-member in Thunderbolts at the time, so it's was not as if he was gone. I quite liked the new version, but mostly for the art. During Warren Ellis' run on Thunderbolts, Ellis decided to turn Robbie Baldwin into Penance, complete with a new suit that has hundreds of tiny spikes built into the costume, constantly stabbing Baldwin whenever he moves. Penance can only use his powers when he's in horrible, horrible agony--so everybody wins, except Baldwin, who incidentally loses... constantly. Paul Jenkins made him Penance in Civil War:Front Line. Indeed, it was Ellis who was getting Robbie from Penance back to his old self again during his run (not getting quite there, he was still Penance at the end, ut Ellis had Doc Samson helping Robbie coming to terms at what had happened and realising that his current direction wasn't helping at all).

Post Zero Hour Wildfire had a very lousy revamped origin. Good thing that when Abnett and Lanning started using the character in Legion Lost they just ignored it and proceeded as if it was the "real" Drake Burroughs (and visually, he looked even better from that point on than he ever had before!)

Second only to my dislike of Mantlo's Alpha Flight is my dislike of Englehart's West Coast Avengers, in which he made Firebird an annoying religious fanatic, Tigra a shallow sex toy, and Night Rider a rapist.

And yet it was still head and shoulders better than Byrne's run on West Coast Avengers... -M

I was wondering what happened. I just read the first 3 issues of the current New Warrior series and he's a wise cracking silly guy again.

And yet it was still head and shoulders better than Byrne's run on West Coast Avengers... Not at all! Byrne basically destroyed Scarlet Witch and Vision making them both toxic characters for the longest time, and pretty much showed he was no longer in touch with what worked in mainstream comics letting his ego get in the way of what was good mainstream storytelling. His art on that book was the first time it appeared to be a parody of his classic style, his dialogue was horrible and his plots were one bad idea after another leading him to get fired off the book...and it taking years to rehabilitate the damage he had done to some characters, and some (like Vision) never really recovered. It is quite possibly the worst run on Avengers ever until Liefeld took over on Heroes Reborn. I find it less palatable than the Crossing and that is the epitome of bad runs in my book, and even Kang puppet traitor Tony Stark becoming Teen Tony did less lasting damage to characters than Byrne's run did to the characters he malligned. -M
