I wasn't sure if this would make more sense on the main page or on community....
So go ask your husband/wife/partner who isn't really into comics that much what they know about comic books. Pick any subject.
I will preface this with saying my wife is a pretty big nerd (like me). Video games, models, Star Wars, Star Trek, BSG and a bunch more. I was really surprised at how little she knew about superheroes. We have never really discussed the subject. I found her answers to be very interesting. Just for reference I am 38 and she is 37.
What do you think of Superman?
"He can fly. He is super strong. His real name is Clark Kent. He's from Krypton. He dates Lois Lane. He has super strength, laser eyes and a very chiseled chin"
How about Flash?
"He runs fast. He doesn't interest me"
Green Lantern?
"I know his name but he doesn't interest me"
Spider-Man?
"He can make webs. His name is Pete something. He is very acrobatic"
Iron Man?
"Not sure. Not interested"
The Justice League?
"It was Superman, Batman, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Silver Surfer (?!) and the Twins"
Batman?
"He is super smart and super rich. That combined with a Ninja"

Mr. Jez knows he must not touch my comics with his doritos-stained fingers.

My husband has read some comics. So, he knows quite a bit. But I'm going to ask my assistant. She has never read a comic in her life.

Mr Jez used to collect comics up to his late teens, almost entirely from the Big 2 and likes that he can indulge in mine when he wants to catch up on something. But he's left the 'collector' and 'investor' aspect to me and doesn't mind that some books can be pricey.

My ex-girlfriend, who's now my best friend, is quite the comic fan; I gave her some of my books to start her collection and she's got her stuff down; better than the comic nerd-come-lately.

My wife knew nothing about comics (or sci-fi, for that matter) before we met... she's from a small town, and her mother is of the 'cartoons and comics are for small children' mindset. Living with me for 20 years has made her a big Trek and B5 fan, though, and she's definitely read a few comics... she enjoyed Fables up through the first uber-arc... Books of Magic.... Lucifer... Wolfman/Perez Titans... She knows more than the average non-fan, but I don't think I'd call her a comic book person (still working on it ) I'd guess she'd have similar answers, as would my brothers, who are fans of superheroes in general, but not enough to buy comics.. they like the movies and TV versions... that sorta thing.

My wife was a ST:TOS fan before we even met, but has never been a comics fan. She did enjoy the X-Men and Spider-man cartoons in the 90s (neither of which I've watched!) probably because of the kids, but never was interested in the books themselves. Her tastes run more into European stuff, when she reads comics at all (she's a devoted crime fiction fan, though).
She's not that much into comic-book movies either, although she naturally doesn't hate the sight of Hugh Jackman's abs and glutes.

While my wife is a reader, she just has never wanted to/tried to read comics, and she's into most comic book related movies more than I am. And I know most of the source material these movies are based on. Maybe that's why she does see Dark Knight as a good movie.

When I met my wife, her X-Men collection was bigger than mine. She doesn't read many comics anymore, but loves the characters and follows them in other mediums. The reason she doesn't read more comics if you ask her is that the same "fanboys" who used to stand around in the back of comic shops throwing out one bad idea after another because it was "kewl" and wouldn't know a good story if it bit them on the ass are now running the companies and writing for them and no one is there to tell them those ideas suck and that they need to tell good stories and that they should probably read something that isn't a comic book once in a while to get some perspective on storytelling. She also is famous for saying if you want to sell more comics, stop telling stories only fanboys can appreciate and ignoring the other 99.9% of the population who might buy comics otherwise. She thinks that's where most of the movies and tv shows get it right and the comics themselves get it wrong, hence the movies and tv show draw big audiences and the comics won't as long as they keep repeating the same mistakes. Her term for it is taking great characters and stories, and cleaning off the fanboy barnacles so the rest of the world can appreciate them. If you tried to ask her who is Superman or some such question, she would look at you with one of those death stares (which I have I have learned to avoid) because you're probably assuming she won't know because she's female and then walk away from you shaking her head in disgust. But if you want to ask her, I can arrange it...be my guest, I'll get my popcorn ready.... -M

My wife has only the most basic knowledge of comics, due to lack of interest. I'm pretty sure she hasn't read a comic since Sojourn went away with the end of Crossgen. She pretends to listen sympathetically (most of the time)when I explain/complain about something going on in comics. But she enjoys all the Marvel movies and the SHIELD tv show as well.

Mine will watch the movies with me, liked Avengers, Thor, Man of Steel,an Iron Man, disliked the first Captain America, and the SHIELD series and absolutely loved Guardians of the Galaxy. Wont read comics though(apart from Vaughans Pride of Baghdad), though in her defence was a fan of Vampirella 20 years before we met.

Mine has zero interest in comics, science fiction, superhero movies, fiction movies, ... fiction generally in fact. However, give her a "real life" book where the main character starts the narrative dead, then things take a turn for the worse...

My wife read comics and loved Star Wars before we met. She reads more now, probably, as I exposed here to more super-heroes. Got her into Babylon 5; not so much Trek. And she loves the Marvel movies, especially The Avengers (especially Chris Hemsworth). And she used to post over at CBR; she still posts here now and again, usually in the cover contest
