This sounds a lot like a writer simply taking the franchise name "Fantastic Four" in order to get funding for a story unrelated to the original work.
To be sure, sometimes such mutations are successful with the public. I'm reading a biographical piece on L. Frank Baum, who had no luck adapting his books to the stage. However, when he turned over WONDERFUL WIZARD to an experienced stage director, what emerged was a musical comedy revue that had little to do with the OZ book-- yet, it was a blockbuster success back in 1902.

Could it be worse than the ones that already exist?

And really, the synopsis you posted wasn't that bad. Much worse is the description of Dr. Doom as an evil blogger. linkOr descriptions of the movie as "grounded, gritty, realistic" ( link), none of which are synonyms for "fantastic". (I checked.)

I won't believe doomblr is real until I see it in the actual movie (which I will never see).

I'm still curious enough to rent it on Netflix or watch it on basic cable.

I'm almost convinced that Marvel Studios has secret agents implanted at Fox who's sole purpose is to make sure that the new FF movie will be so horrendous, that the only course of action will be for Fox to sell the rights back to Disney.

Now, while the Fox Mr. Fantastic may be irredeemable, I would like everybody to note that I highly recommend the Fantastic Mr. Fox, and these should not be confused.

One has to wonder if Mr. Fantastic will turn out to be a villain, as his Ultimate counterpart did. I wouldn't hold my breath because these movies are built as franchises and are meant to have as many sequels as possible, but it would certainly be refreshing if the producers thought about it.
( I hasten to add that I'd rather have a FF movie than an Ultimate FF movie, but if the latter is chosen, I'd go all the way.)
One good aspect I see in this version is that since Fox is behind the project, Marvel/Disney is unlikely to change its FF characters to suit the movie the way it has done with other properties...(yes, Nick Fury Junior, I'm looking at you. And stop trying to stare me down like you're Samuel Jackson; you don't do it half as well as the Ultimate universe Nick Fury. Besides, what in heaven's name are you wearing? )

I'm still confused as to why they cast an actor that looks disturbingly like Rachel Maddow to play Mr. Fantastic.

Especially when Rachel Maddow was available.
