I'm very excited for it. I like the harder sci-fi edge they're giving this.
Today at work, Hertz, I was renting a car to a guy and making small talk while I input information I find out he's on a business trip and works for 20th Century Fox. The movies ? Yes.
I'm looking forward to the upcoming FF movie. Glad to see a badly needed reboot and am anxious to see when they x-over with the X-Men. He was impressed that I knew that was coming.
We laughed how Star Wars saved Fox and know Disney owns it. He didn't know that the FF was now cancelled, but said that Fox no longer supports Star Wars as well.
Also interesting that he said that Fox calls themselves Dark Marvel, implying Disney Marvel is too candy coated.
I hear fans whine that DC is too dark ! He laughed and quickly pointed to Deadpool with a hard R rating coming out. Despite not liking the character or reading the comics (too obnoxious), I'm looking forward to that movie.

I'll admit the lastest trailer actually has me intrigued. It looks and feels a lot more like Ultimate FF than the classic Lee/Kirby FF, but it looks better than I thought based on early reveals and looks. Still not sure I will see it in the theatres.
Deadpool however, is a major skip for me. Not interested in the slightest, probably not even for free on tv.
And Fox might be losing one of the X-leads, as Channing Tatum looks like he wants out of the Gambit film.

Not sure when or how I'll see this. Unlikely in the theatre. But I'm game to check it out. I confess I'm much more intrigued and optimistic about it now than previously. Personally I'm just not much of an FF fan and never saw the others till DVD. My main issue with this new movie at this point is the cast. I really don't care for any of them.

You know how everyone looks back on Batman and Robin and makes fun of the Batsuit nipples? I predict we'll be doing the same thing about naked Ben Grimm.

Rotten Tomatoes reviewer commentsFantastic Four is trapped between the unique look of its iconic characters and the all-too-familiar storytelling structure of the modern superhero film; it's a $100-million movie that gets found sorely wanting in comparison to 50-cent comic books. 50-cent comic books? Now there's a guy who hasn't read a comic in a while...

So this movie is really getting trashed in both critic reviews and on Twitter by people who are seeing it. The consensus seems pretty overwhelming.
I wonder what the threshold would be for Fox to decide it's more profitable to sell the rights back to Marvel/Disney rather keep trying to make it work. Or is there too much bad blood between the studios for that to happen in the foreseeable future?

Dang. Didn't think Fantastic 4 would be THAT bad. Shame. This is one of my favorite comic creations of all time and they still haven't gotten their due. At least Fox is probably giving up at this point at trying to make this work, if they ever tried in the first place. The rights need to revert back to Marvel Studios ASAP. Too bad it won't be in time for Infinity War. I haven't seen the film, but from what I've heard it's not worth my salt. Tired of seeing this franchise shitted on.

The director blames the studio: variety.com/2015/film/news/fantastic-four-director-implies-that-fox-is-responsible-for-bad-reviews-1201558644/A few people who have seen, have said that the first half of the movie is not bad (if a bit slow), but then completely changes course for the second half. It's funny to see the reactions to this movie over time: early rumours had everybody going, this is going to be terrible. Then there were some early trailers and people going "Heh, this might actually be an interesting take." and then the movie comes out and everybody is going "Nope, it's terrible"

Reviews appear to be more mixed than the overall picture might suspect. If you look at Rotten Tomatoes and the like, it's about 50/50 between those who liked the movie and those that disliked it - but I think those who liked it are giving it 5s/6s/7s and those who didn't like it are giving it 1s.
There have been some fairly positive reviews as well, though overall it doesn't sound overly promising.

Just saw it. Honestly, it wasn't all that awful. It's not a superhero movie; it's one of those things where the people involved seem embarrassed to be associated with superheroes. No colorful costumes, code names only used in passing as jokes, like that. But as a science fiction film - it still isn't very good. It's (shall we say) deliberately paced, spending a lot of time setting up the characters, even though none of that setup leads to anything. Then they finally get their powers, and the movie skips ahead a year. Then there's a fight scene that feels lifted from another movie, they set up a series, and it ends. Maybe not actively awful, but damned underwhelming. Some specific things that bugged me - Doom's powers are ill-defined, and he seems way too powerful for this team to beat. Plus, I'm not real clear on how they beat him. Ben's resentment of Reed, which was doubly justified considering Reed basically abandons Ben after his transformation, is just forgotten after the big fight. And after decades of people trying to prove that Sue deserves to be taken seriously, she doesn't even go on the trip into the other dimension. The guys don't even think to ask her along, so she's left home and only gets her powers cause a little of the extra-dimensional energy leaks out when they come back. Sheesh.
