You know, the album I was sure in my head was a '64 album, but which turned out to be a 1963 album, was The Everly Brothers Sing Great Country Hits. That's a cracking record, but alas, it's not eligible.

Oh no, I can't imagine anybody else will have picked those three bands... I didn't. Contrarian!

...I was just barely able to come up with ten that I knew and of those ten there were two each by three different artists (you can probably guess who they were: the Beatles, the Stones, and Dylan). Oh no, I can't imagine anybody else will have picked those three bands...

Work place romances have been around since the Stone Age, even if they are discouraged. At the least it’s bad judgement, at most, he’s in big trouble. Ex head coach of the New England Patriots is 72 and he’s dating a 27 year old. Who are we to rush to a decision? Nobody is rushing to a decision though. We're just speculating on the news article and, in particular, Gaiman's own comments on the sexual abuse allegations. I personally think those comments sound really dodgy and pretty creepy.

Can you be consenting when you are in a subordinate position within the workplace? The woman was Gaiman's employee and he had authority over her. He was also nearly 40 years her senior, which adds a further level of authority. Well, that's the big question, isn't it? And especially as it was her very first day at work. My feeling is that, yes, it is potentially possible for a 61 year old man and a 22 year old woman to fall in love at work and have a consensual relationship in theory... BUT, the older boss would have to tread pretty carefully not to abuse his position of power. It doesn't look good that Gaiman was at it on this girl's very first day. That definitely does not smack of a perfectly consensual affair IMHO.

OK, I got a dilemma with my 1964 list that didn't crop up on later lists because of the vagaries of '60s record contracts. Two acts in my Top 10 have two albums each in the run down because it was common back then for record companies to demand a couple of album releases per year from artists/ But obviously that means that my list will only feature eight different acts instead of ten.
I'm sort of wondering whether to limit my list to only 1 album per artist/act? But while that might make for a more interesting list, is it really accurate as my Top 10?
Anyone have any thoughts?

Two consenting adults. Yeah, it's weird but nothing illegal, as far as I know. True...but only "if" it was consensual. That's kinda the point: that's exactly what these two women are claiming it wasn't.

Yeah, I saw this on Reddit a couple of days ago. An awful lot of Redditors in various comic-related sub-reddits were saying that Gaiman's predatory nature has been an open secret in comic fandom circles for a while now, apparently. Take that with a pinch of salt, of course, but The Tortoise podcast have a pretty impeccable track record for investigations thus far. As others have said, it's just downright weird that he seduced a much younger woman (he was 61 and she was 22), who had come to babysit his children, on her first day at work! I mean, she alleges that the subsequent three-week relationship involved non-consensual rough and abusive sex, while he says it was just consensual "cuddling" and "making out". Frankly, that is a really weird thing for Gaiman to admit to. It was the girl's first day at work and he thought that was OK, as her boss, to have a bit of a kiss and a cuddle with her? Even if he thought it was consensual, that smacks of coercive, predatory behaviour and was almost certainly exploitative from a "power dynamic" point of view. ...and all the rest of us are pure as the driven snow.
I think not.
Good Grief. Let the public opinion dog-piling begin... without knowing the specifics of the cases. Ah, but we're not commenting on the case or saying he must be guilty and engaging in a witch hunt, are we? We're just commenting on the specifics of the news report...including Gaman's own comments within it, which sound creepy and dodgy as all hell. That alone is fair grounds for speculation, I'd say.

Yeah? Cool. It'll take me a little while to get my list together too. Give me a shout when you're ready. Sounds good. I played around with it last night. I’m down to eleven albums. So I probably need to order them and cut one. I suspect we shall have no overlap. I’m not including pure jazz albums, as usual, because there were close to a dozen that could realistically have been on there. I drew up my short list of 18 albums today...just need to narrow it down to 10 and order them. There will absolutely be at least one jazz album in my Top 10, along with a bit of pop, a bit of blues, a bit of bluegrass, and a lot of American folk. No prizes for guessing which fab beat combo are gonna be in my number one spot!

I'm curious about that Peter Parker Spectacular Spider-Man #58 - specifically the Ringer, a villain I remember seeing only once, in I think the David Kraft run of the Defenders? Anyway, my memory says he was an unusual character in that he was given a kind of self-conscious socio-political motivation that you never saw too often in superhero comics, spouting anti-capitalist rhetoric, that kind of thing. So, I read Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man #58 and there's no sign of that kind of motivation from the Ringer in this issue, berkley. He seems to be very much a D-list villain who is rather cowardly and way out of his depth tangling with someone like Spider-Man (but he's forced to do so by the Beetle).

I was thinking we could maybe do Top 10 favourite retrospective CD or Vinyl box sets. Or maybe we could do Top 10 favourite albums of 1964? Or perhaps more genre specific Top 10 lists? Like, Top 10 pop songs or Top 10 country songs or Top 10 soul songs etc. I’m up for 1964 albums. Might take me a few days to put it together. Yeah? Cool. It'll take me a little while to get my list together too. Give me a shout when you're ready.

I’ve been missing my music projects. I’m sure I’m the only one. Considered doing favorite songs. But as I looked at 1974, it’s a strong possibility there could be six songs by Waylon Jennings. I’ll keep thinking about it.

Just saw this over on Facebook. Really sad news. MDG was always such a welcome presence in the forum and his posts were always really fun to read. He was clearly very knowledgeable on a whole range of subjects. I got to interact with him a couple of times via the Classic Comics Forum Zoom meetings and my impression was of a very warm guy. I will really miss having him around the place.

Now I'll stop talking about politics. Yes, and I'll do the same. Nothing to see here: carry on!

I know we're supposed to talk politics here, but I'm just gonna say, "YEEESSSSSS!!! Thank f**k!" I, for one, am quite disappointed that Count Binface wasn't elected. He's the Prime Minister we need, but do we deserve him?
