#11: Crisis on Infinite Earths #12 (DC, 1986) Confession: I wasn't much into DC Comics as a kid. Very rarely I would pick up a Superman or Batman comic, but everything else was strictly Marvel. When I was around 10, a new kid moved into the neighborhood. I don't remember his name, so let's call him DC Kid. DC Kid's enthusiasm for DC superheroes was infectious. We became friends around the time that DC's big Crisis on Infinite Earths event hit the shelves. This Crisis thing rocked DC Kid's world. He would not shut up about this event. Eventually I gave in and read the first couple of issues he had bought. And I was wowed. That George Perez art. A plethora of classic DC heroes, combined with some new characters which I found interesting. DC Kid was right, this was pretty good. Issue #12 is my favorite of the series. At that point in the Crisis, it felt like there was no hope for mankind. The heroes had failed. To see the Psycho-Pirate insanely pulling on Barry's uniform through the rock, witnessed by a horrified Kid Flash. To see the heroes have to resort to asking Darkseid for help. Then to see Earth-2 Superman punching the Anti-Monitor fireball into obliteration. It was all mindblowing. A few years ago, well before CBR decided to reboot itself, I remember bringing up Crisis on Infinite Earths in our old Classics Forum. The majority of the responses showed a general disdain for the event at the time. Now, I do understand that this event forever changed DC Comics, and many fans that had grown up with certain books could no longer enjoy them the same way. But for me, THIS was the event that got me to care about DC. It got me to dive into that giant DC Comics backlog, and dip into the Hall of Justice fountain of JLA history. I read this a few years ago in it's entirety and I was completely confused. I'll have to try again.

12 days of Classic Christmas #11
Flash #1 (1987) Mike Baron/ Jackson Juice/Larry Mahlstedt
I have always liked the concept of the Flash, but always thought the Barry Allen version to really be bland and boring. When they started a new Flash series using Wally West I thought it might be a little better. Boy was I wrong, It was a Lot better. Flash #1-18 is my favorite run of the any series involving a Flash Character. A real transition from his Kid Flash status is made in the very first pages when he is celebrating his 20th birthday with the Teen Titans and the book takes off from there. During the run, Wally has real world situations and an active sex life , which made it all a nice read. He was a young guy with hermones raging and it showed in his behavior. Great dialogue from Baron really makes this comic stand out for me. I know many are fond of the Later Mark Waid and Geoff Johns runs but for me, this will always stand out as THE Flash. He is handed the mantle of the Flash because of the COIE events. This is one of the good side effects of that series , among the bad. Other reasons This issue stands out for me : He is only able to run at 700 Mph, tops. He has to eat incredible amounts of calories in order to maintain his strength. He shows real world sensibilities by negotiating with a hospital for free health insurance in exchange for transporting a heart. And , Oh yeah, he hits the Lotto. He establishes Vandal Savage as his first rogue. I don't have much experience with The Flash, although I'm trying to get into the character. Over the years I've heard a lot of people prefer Wally compared to Barry. I wasn't sure why. I just finished reading The Flash Rebirth, by Geoff Johns and it was "meh" to me for the most part. I just wanted to start with something Barry related for some reason. Although I've been thinking about reading up on Wally's stories since again, as I've heard, everyone seems to prefer him. That issue right there looks like a good start. Thanks for the insight.

As for what you tried to post earlier, I can even do that here. Again, by putting in the image URL between the proper markers used for forums. I just found the DIRECT URL in what you posted earlier. The main thing is that you want the DIRECT URL for any kind of image. Then you just pluge it into the markers. What you got earlier from that site was another type of HTML code, which kind of does the same thing, but it's a little bit more complex. When you upload something to a photo uploading site, just try to get that Direct URL. I'll go back to those two sites and see if there was anything that might cause first timers a stumble. EDIT: Yeah okay so when you upload something, anything to DumpYourPhoto just right click on the image/GIF. You'll have your DIRECT URL link that way. It doesn't provide the proper marker for this site. And once you have the DIRECT URL you can plug it in here by typing those markers I showed earlier. Or you can just use the "insert image" button here on this site when making a post and put in that URL. As for that other site, PostImage, there is a DIRECT link when you upload a photo. So you don't have to right click on the photo and go to "View Image" to get that link. Saves you a nano-second I guess.

Okay so...I'll show you what to do once you've uploaded something to a photo site. This usually works for most sites unless they try to restrict offsite links on purpose. Actually you can do this with any photo anywhere really unless again, the site tries to block it. We can do a simple Google search for say "pillow". Just go to Google image search and type that in. The first one that comes up, I'll click on the image. Google then isolates that image. There is probably a mini-black border around it telling you the size and dimension of the image or whatever. If you have a PC or Mac you can right click the image and when the menu pops up go to "view image". Then you should have the image by itself in it's own URL. If you wanted to post that image here, you would take the image in the URL box and put image markers around it here. [ i m g ]YourPhotoURLgoesHERE[ /img] *I had to put an extra spaces in the brackets so I can show you how it's done. In reality you don't want any spaces in the brackets when putting the markers down. Here is what it looks like below when I put the URL of the image in between the markers that work for this forum (as with most other forums)

How long have you resided there? Perhaps someone did find that key you were talking about. It is very strange that none of your big ticket items were taken. I'm guessing it's either kids playing a cruel joke and/or some loon that just has a desire to screw with people. I don't want to go too off the rails here, but it could be something of a paranormal/unexplained nature. Unlikely, but just saying. Have you thought about getting a security camera? If you change the locks and someone still has access to your place then I would start getting pretty concerned. Obviously that changes solves your problem.

What do you mean? Just something that was host images so you can post them to places like this? Yes. I need something else that's faster and more user friendly. dumpyourphoto.com/. Great site. No BS sign ups. Just upload your photo from your computer.. I use it for GIFS because you and upload up to 50 MB on a single file. Instantly gives you a URL for posting elsewhere. I usually just right click the image/GIF when it's done uploading and use that direct URL. Another one is postimage.org/. Again no BS. Still simple, but with a few more options. You can upload from your computer or a URL. Not too sure about the size limit, but anything for photos should work. You can also upload multiple photos at one time and resize them all. Also gives you URLS to post anywhere for sites like this one.

And Mariota still has the chance to be a national champion. His stock could soar if that happens. I wonder what team he will be going to. My guess is Tampa.

Does anyone know of a photo sharing site that can be used to post scans ? I use photobucket but it is getting slower and slower. What do you mean? Just something that was host images so you can post them to places like this?

Did anyone see the latest episode of Star Trek Continues? It's a sequel to the episode Mirror, Mirror. Pretty good to get another episode. That series is remarkably good. The scripts feel like actual Trek episodes and not like fan fiction (a problem I have with other similar productions). The guy who plays Kirk is impressive in his impersonation of William Shatner; he even moves like him on screen. And the paucity of special effects, even in this era where CGI makes so many things possible, is a very wise approach: it makes Star Trek Continues closer to TOS. I also really enjoyed seeing Lou Ferrigno playing an Orion in the episode Lolani: nobody plays hulking green guys like him! It took me a while to get used to the new faces, but after a while you just really get wrapped up in the story. In the latest episode, the guy who plays Spock, Todd Haberkorn just blew the doors off. That was definitely his episode. It is strange though, because he is playing the mirror version. He just owned it though. It has been three episodes though, and we still haven't gotten off the ship. I think it would be great if we could do that. I'm guessing budget concerns might be a problem.

I just finished reading Infinity War, and I'm not sure how I felt about it. Not too long ago I read all of Infinity Gauntlet and it's tie-ins. I thought it was great...except most of the tie-ins. With Infinity War I just read the main issues. Overall it was "okay", but I guess I felt like nothing too much was built upon what we got in Infinity Gauntlet. And I'm not sure if we even needed more to be told with the same kind of premise, which was the acquisition of ultimate power via the Infinity Gems. This time was Magus. I do like that we get more of Thanos in this working on the other side of the coin. Of course he's simply doing this because he wants to survive like everyone else. Ultimately I'd say he becomes the "star" of the piece along with Adam Warlock. Didn't see the fake out coming at the end...although it was kind of contrived to me. Smart of their part though. There was a definitely a lot more scheming going on with the main adversary throughout most of the narrative. For a while I was wondering when we were going to get to the meat of the action. Not that I just wanted people hitting each other. We got there here a decent amount, but it didn't do much for me because I didn't feel the stakes were as high as what we got initially with Thanos in the first iteration. Also, I was really disappointed that Silver Surfer is essentially just in the background and used for muscle like a lot of other characters. He played such a vital role in Infinity Gauntlet, and his tie-ins were pretty much the only ones I remember enjoying. I started to really like the character because of what we got in Infinity Gauntlet, and I'm now looking forward to exploring past stories about the Surfer. He wasn't the only one pushed to the background of course. There were a ton of others just used strictly for a huge rumble, and I started to wonder if that is the downside of these huge all-character events. Unfortunately there just isn't enough to go around for everyone to shine. As for the artwork, although I like what Ron Lim brings to the table, I did miss George Perez at times. Especially on the closeups of the faces on characters which I don't think is Ron's strong suit. Ron I felt is really good at showcasing characters in scale and huge background shots. Especially of the cosmic sort. Perez had some really fantastic panel layouts though in Gauntlet, and it would have been nice to be treated to that again. I still enjoyed what I got for the most part though. All in all, a decent story. I did find myself getting lost in some of the techno-babble though. Or maybe I just wasn't interested. Or tired. I'll be moving on to Infinity Crusade shortly.
