Thanks for the votes, it's been a while . This week choose a Silly cover. It could be humorous, nonsensical, parody, or something that just doesn't make sense. But don't use a cover from a humor magazine, No Mad, Not brand Ecch, Archie etc. Pick a cover that is unintentionally silly. It's okay to choose a Silver Age Dc cover because they weren't trying to be funny, they were just trying to get you to buy the book. Good luck! This is my pick, I don't know how they ended up chained together in this manner. • Post one, and only one, classic cover that fits the theme of the contest. • Your cover must be from a published comic book or collected volume published before April 2014. • Please include the title and the issue number of the comic, preferably in bold, in case some posters cannot see your image. • Covers must be posted before voting begins. • Voting takes place on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, beginning at 12:01 am PST and ending at 11:59 AM PST. • Vote by posting the name of the poster whose cover best fits the theme or that you simply like the most in bold. • The winner of the contest is the entrant with the most votes after the voting period ends. • The winner gets to choose the theme for the next week's contest. • If you don't think the cover fits the theme, don't post disparaging remarks about it. Just don't vote for it. • If a cover is more recent than the classic time frame, kindly point it out to the poster, who may then choose an alternate before voting begins

I guess you can head cannon and say he knew he was going to be around a dangerous super human. But , isn’t it unlawful to carry that around?

Journey into Mystery #114
(This is my copy) Writer Stan Lee Artist: Jack Kirby Artist Inks: Chic Stone Plot summary: As the issue opens, we see Thor chasing down a spy. Loki uses the opportunity to send a potion to attack him. It fails so Loki uses another potion to give powers to an inmate at a prison called Crusher Creel. It turns out the power he receives is to absorb the properties of anything he touches. He uses this to escape prison. Later while Don Blake is attending to a reporter called Hobbs in his medical practice, he learns from him of an escaped convict that has super powers. He goes as Thor to the black mountain swamp area and engages Creel. Thor soon sees that he can absorb and possess his power, strength and even the power of his Hammer. In the middle of the physical conflict, Hobbs appears and throws a stick of dynamite at Creel. Thor saves Hobbs from the explosion by surrounding him in a whirlwind created by his Hammer. Thor pursues Creel and engages him again. This time they are fighting hand to hand and even then, Thor sees they are equally matched. Suddenly, they are both enveloped by a mist and Thor is magically transported to the rainbow bridge where Balder informs him that Jane Foster has been abducted by Loki. Thor is warned that no one can defeat Loki in his home ground. Thor goes anyway. To be continued. Comments: Creel is another major opponent for Thors rogues gallery and he poses the problem that he can do anything Thor can do , which puts him in a power class with very few Marvel Characters. I found this battle being interrupted to be a strange conclusion to the issue. It seems Thor drops everything once Jane is in danger. The reporter, Hobbs , is a strange character. He is first seen getting medical aid by Blake and he’s full on smoking in the doctor's office. I remember in the mid 80’s that they stopped smoking indoors where I worked but I wonder when this became a “ thing” in medical buildings. This book was released in 1965 so it’s possible there wasn’t a smoking ban yet. Putting that aside, I’m sure it wasn’t normal for reporters to carry around sticks of dynamite ! The character of Crusher Creel poses an interesting question, how can you beat someone that can do anything you can do ? If I remember correctly, he becomes a thorn in Thor and even Asgards side for a good bunch of years. Creel's viciousness is a nice trait. This is no conflicted criminal we have here. Good issue! Silly momentA reporter with dynamite. What was Stan thinking? Thor has a hammer that can do anything. It even tingles when danger is near. This doesn’t happen every time danger is near and it wasn’t necessary for the story. Cool Moment:Creels escape from prison is a great page and displays his fierceness. Tales of AsgardWe have Iduna on foot who is delivering the Golden apples of immortality to Odin. She is accosted by Fenris the wolf god who transforms himself into a man to take the apples. Haakun the Hunter intervenes and throws his battle axe which transports the wolf to Varinheim to a land of the lost in another cosmos. The story ends with Haakun escorting her the rest of the way to her destination. Stan makes a connection to this story with the Red Riding Hood fairy tale. Nothing special about this story.

Just venting and moaning for a bit... I've come down with a real stinker of a cold and have almost completely lost my voice (not good for a singer!). I had a really important gig with my band The Kynd tonight in London, supporting a group called Apollo Junction, who have been getting some decent press in this country of late. It was a chance for us to play in front of 250-300 people who'd likely never heard us before and to hopefully win over some new fans and sell some LPs, CDs and T-Shirts. In addition, a good friend of mine, who I've not seen since Christmas, was coming up from Worthing on the south coast to watch us, so I was looking forward to having a few beers with him afterwards. Unfortunately, we've had to cancel the gig because I just can't sing at the moment and because today I'm running a temperature, with sweats and shivering. I've been in bed all day. I feel f*cking wretched and completely p*ssed off that I've been forced to cancel such an important gig. It absolutely sucks! I am not a happy camper right now. That really stinks. As a friend, (sort of) co-worker, and avid fan of The Kynd, I'm angry for you on all three levels. The good news is your music isn't going anywhere, and people who need to hear it will continue to make their way to it regardless of these setbacks. I firmly believe that. If anything, this just buys us more time before you make it too big to be able to hang out here with us anymore. Confessor, I heard a rumor that you guys were going to break out the CCF In Dept theme song...

5 decades of the best of MAD's legendary caricaturist, Mort Drucker, collected in one lovely 272 page HC.
There’s just too many artists to all fit in my Mount Rushmore. He certainly needs to be there. I used to just study his pages in Mad magazine. I was surprised to learn he actually did straight comic book work in the 60’s.

Byrne wanted to change the Hulk to be more like his favourite version, and to go back to before it was public knowledge that Banner was the Hulk, perhaps keeping this secret from the readers for a while too. Not a bad idea…

It rehashed many old plot lines from other Hulk books. How many times do we have to see Banner separated from the Hulk ?
