I liked Civil War a lot and thought that McNiven's art was stunning.

I liked it also but found the violence to be disturbing for a mainstream Marvel comic.

The Brave and The Bold # 109 Artist- Jim Aparo Writer- Bob Haney DC 1973I always consider this book special because it was the first time that one of Kirbys creations was drawn by someone other than the king.

Loved these ads. Does anyone have a full list of the writers and artists who did these ads? And was a compilation of this ad campaign ever released?

Civil War #7 Artist-Steve Mcniven Inks- Dexter Vines Writer- Mark Millar Marvel 2007I've always had a distaste for Civil War because it was plain ugly violence and disturbing to see them go at each other the way they did. Mcniven was probably the perfect artist to render this book. Take a look at these images. I haven't seen violence depicted this way short of an Authority comic. {Spoiler: Click to show} How about X-MEN 133. I remember reading that comic and being amazed and unnerved by the violence Byrne and Austin put to paper. I still think that's the most violence I've seen in a Marvel book. Or how about DD 169. Bullseye having a psychotic break and killing all those "Devil" on the streets of Time Square. Both much more violent and disturbing than Civil War. At least I think so.

Loved these ads. Does anyone have a full list of the writers and artists who did these ads? And was a compilation of this ad campaign ever released? I have no idea who the writers were, but here are my guesses for artists for the DC Hostess ads - Batman "The Mummy" - Dick Giordano Aquaman "That Dirty Beach" (what a title) - Curt Swan and Dick Giordano Plastic Man "Gold For Dessert" - Curt Swan and Vince Colletta. Joe Staton may have had a hand in it, as he drew the Pplastic Man series in Adventure comics the previous year, but I'm inclined to think not. Green Lantern "Half The People Here..." - appears to be Neal Adams and Dick Giordano (but it could be all DG) Penguin "The Cuckoo Cuckoos" - Somewhat resembles Curt Swan, but I'm not sure. Don't know who inked it, but it doesn't look like Colletta Everything else - Curt Swan and Vince Colletta. Hope I didn't miss any. Keep in mind these are my guesses. I don't know of any list of credits anywhere.

Bonus double product placement! This Hostess ad features the Supermobile, which DC was selling as a toy at the time. www.dcindexes.com/features/gallery.php?page=hostess&id=124It doesn't look exactly the same as the SMB that debuted in the comics in 1978, but for all I know it may more closely resemble the actual toy version. Or maybe Curt and Vinnie were in a rush to draw it. Apparently Superman always kept some delicious Hostess Twinkies (TM) in the Super-glove compartment for the multitude of snack cake-related emergencies that were constantly breaking out.
