There's this entry at the GCD about the Marvel Hostess ads: www.comics.org/series/24886/Nothing similar for DC that I can find but the ads are indexed in each issue where they appear.

The Brave and The Bold #110 Artist- Jim Aparo Writer- Bob Haney DC 1974 I love that before the Crisis, they used to team up Wildcat with Batman without an explanation of how an Earth-2 hero could meet an Earth-1 person. {Spoiler: Click to show} One of my favorite team up ... Wildcat and Batman!

Did Jim Aparo deliberately try to emulate Neal Adams's style sometimes for Batman? I haven't seen enough of his art to tell if his work on that character differs at all from his other stuff, but sometimes I get that impression. Probably based on too small a sample size for me to really say, though.

Maybe it was a "house style " that DC wanted for Batman. Aparos early work, like this issue, was just great.

I'm not bashing Aparo but compare the first Image to the second. There's so much more detail in the first.

Gen 13 Bootleg Annual # 1 Artist- Steve Dillon Writer- Warren Ellis Image 1998The late Steve Dillon was the most talented artist, of the modern era , at drawing horror. Even these pages from the usually lighthearted Gen13 is scary.

Gen 13 Bootleg Annual # 1 Artist- Steve Dillon Writer- Warren Ellis Image 1998 I used to enjoy Gen13 for a while back in the '90s, although I sold off my collection of the title (the first 30 or so issues and the original mini-series) some years back after a re-reading because they do not hold up well IMO. But, I've always been puzzled, what was Gen13 Bootleg? How did it differ from the main series and what was its purpose?

But, I've always been puzzled, what was Gen13 Bootleg? How did it differ from the main series and what was its purpose? The series was very popular at the start and the Bootleg title was a place where guest artists and writers could do a 1 or 2 issue story apart from the regular series. They had other top people do stories like Walt Simonson and Alan Davis. It lasted 20 issues plus the Annual.
