I just ordered the Aaron-Ribic Thor, god of thunder hardcover... does it still count as a new comic? It had good reviews and despite my reservations regarding Marvel's treatment of the thunder god in recent years, I still like the character. Forsooth!

Aaron's Thor is pretty good... it takes a while to develop, but it's worth the ride... at least until this 'unworthy' nonsense that we still don't know what it is.. that's not until Original Sin, though, so you can read the rest of the run without fear

Made the mistake of looking at an issue of Marvel's new Invaders series the other day, only to be appalled at what they're doing to the Eternals now. Very similar to what DC is doing with the New Gods. Are they in the new storyline, too? Ikaris' presence in the first arc was not particularly bad, IMO. It seemed reasonable, anyway.. I can't say I know everything about them, though.

Well did I start a discussion or what? The interesting point is virtually no-one wanted to talk about what a great book Saga is. Saga is a great book. Heh. Coldwater, I have a few suggestions for you based on your love of Rat Queens (I got the first trade along with the Saga hardcover), so based on the assumption you have been enjoying some really well written female characters and not just male fantasy figures I would like to know if you have tried...Saga (well duh!!! great chicks doing cool shit), Dungeons and Dragons, Legends of Baldurs Gate (up to issue 3, quite a cool female main character), or Rogues! The Cold Ship ( 2nd in a series of mini-series, the leads sidekick is an ass-kicking female who berates him constantly for his bad choices, wardrobe, or just general hygiene). They're all SF/Fantasy, then theres always Lazarus, Velvet, and the amazing Rachel Rising. Sorry, trying not to assume anything, your tastes may well be fairly standard, but I see Betty whenever I read your posts, and have wondered when Ive read these books. I have the first...5-7 issues or so (whatever comes in the first TPB) of Saga. I have read...2-3 of them, but I got so busy with work right after I started it, that I ran out of time to read it, and then I got distracted by other reads. I really want that hardcover, though, and I loved what I had read. I have not read those others you asked about. I am so new to comics, and there are just SO MANY THINGS!!! Igetsoexcitedanddistracted. I can hardly keep track of anything. Saga has been fantastic so far. I've also been liking Rat Queens. As far as fantasy goes, my absolute favorite fantasy series is Elfquest, particularly the first three series, after which it kind of unravels. But if you're interested, it's available to read for free online at Elfquest.com. The main character is male, but the cast is huge and there are many prominent female characters.

This past spring/summer, I was rummaging through some 25 cent boxes at an LCS, and I found an Elfquest issue. It was issue #17. I snagged it up because I'll probably read anything containing characters with pointy ears (I am kind of simple like that, I guess), and I loved it, instantly. I am confused, though, but I keep forgetting to look into it: I am confused about what comes in black and white. The originals? Some of this series is good and bad? The issue I picked up was in color. So confused.

The issue I picked up was in color. So confused. The original Elfquest series was self-published, in black in white, in magazine size format... though are somehwat difficult to find. Not too long after it came out, Marvel re-printed the entire series as part of the Epic line in color... that's probably the one you found in the quarter bin. After the original series was reprinted, they went back to self publishing... I think still in color though. The next two series are minis, first 'Elfquest: Siege and Blue Mountain', then 'Elfquest: Kings of the Broken Wheel' After that, it gets confusing, and not as good.. they end up having a whole line with parallel stories, different writers, future and past stuff, etc. As previously stated everything Elfquest is free online through the official site. In addition, there are various different sets of trades... Warp Graphics (the company they used to self-publish) has most of the series in hard cover trade.. way back before trades were cool. Then, when DC had the rights of a while, they started doing the series in Manga-sized trades... I don't recall how far they got. Now that they're working with Dark Horse, almost Ominbus-sized trades called 'Elfquest Saga' are on the schedule.. I think the 1st one just came out. It's a great series, and I'd highly recommend it

I'm lazy (and/or an idiot), so can someone tell me exactly what new Marvel Star Wars titles are beginning in January or in the first few months of 2015?

I'm lazy (and/or an idiot), so can someone tell me exactly what new Marvel Star Wars titles are beginning in January or in the first few months of 2015? They're starting with 3 ongoing series. Star Wars by Jason Aaron and John Cassaday Star Wars - Darth Vader by Kieron Gillen and Salvador Larroca Star Wars - Princess Leia by Mark Waid and Terry Dodson The first issue of Star Wars has over 50 variant covers, and a print run of 1,000,000 copies. I'm sure you've already seen this one - I'll give them all a try, but who knows how long I'll last. Especially if they expand the line. Interesting that they're all original trilogy so far.

The issue I picked up was in color. So confused. The original magazine sized series was 21 issues and in black and white. It was reprinted at Epic in color and took 36 issues, and had additional pages added each issue to help break the story up into smaller pieces. After that it went back to self publish, but in regular comic book size, and back to black and white for the following two series. Siege At Blue Mountain and Kings Of The Broken Wheel. After that they started playing with time travel and unloaded multiple titles by multiple creative teams. It was kind of a mess. I believe it was all in color at that point. One or two of the series at that time may have been good but I haven't read enough to know for sure. I plan on reading it all anyway, even though I already know I am not going to like all of it. They're bargain bin comics at this point so why not.
