Made the mistake of looking at an issue of Marvel's new Invaders series the other day, only to be appalled at what they're doing to the Eternals now. Very similar to what DC is doing with the New Gods. Are they in the new storyline, too? Ikaris' presence in the first arc was not particularly bad, IMO. It seemed reasonable, anyway.. I can't say I know everything about them, though. Yeah, they seem to be seeking revenge on the Kree for having mind-controlled Ikaris into a weapon of war by planning to mind-control Galactus in the same way in order to attack the Kree. Of course they have no ethical qualms about using another being against his will after getting mad about someone doing the same thing to them. And of course they're not worried that Galactus might come after them for revenge just like they're going after the Kree. I haven't been following the series, but this just seems idiotic to me in itself, even apart from the mis-characterisation of the Eternals, both as a group - while not perfectly free from error, they are supposed to be far more intelligent and ethically developed than humans; and as individual characters - no way Thena just goes along with this, even if we accept (which I don't) that Ikaris would think it was a good idea. But I suppose it's just another example of a writer who isn't interested in the nature of the original concept. They're just blank slates he can have do whatever he wants in his effort to write a "good story". It seems that his and Marvel's idea of what constitutes a good story differs pretty drastically from mine.

I'm lazy (and/or an idiot), so can someone tell me exactly what new Marvel Star Wars titles are beginning in January or in the first few months of 2015? They're starting with 3 ongoing series. Star Wars by Jason Aaron and John Cassaday Star Wars - Darth Vader by Kieron Gillen and Salvador Larroca Star Wars - Princess Leia by Mark Waid and Terry Dodson The first issue of Star Wars has over 50 variant covers, and a print run of 1,000,000 copies. I'm sure you've already seen this one - I'll give them all a try, but who knows how long I'll last. Especially if they expand the line. Interesting that they're all original trilogy so far. Thanks for that, jodoc. That's very helpful. I had seen that Jaxxon variant cover, yes. I'm really not a "variant guy" at all, but I must admit to being sorely tempted by that one. I'll pick up all three series to begin with, but I'll be dropping any titles that don't deliver pretty sharpish.

The issue I have, I believe, is in color but still written by the creators and from the first series. Yes, it is. This is the one I have: Yup, that's from the Marvel reprints... and must have been pretty confusing to start with! I don't know any better, tbh. hahaha. I can deal with jumping in mid-storyline, usually, and either go with the flow or just enjoy it for what it is. I mean, sure, I didn't know what happened before, but the problem for me was not knowing what was going to happen next! So, I need that in collection. I'd love to get it in HC collection.

I've been reading up a little bit on Marvel and DC's latest events that they've been touting -- Secret Wars and Convergence. I know that truly original ideas in comics are hard to come by, and both publishers have their own versions of characters or events that bear similarities to those from the other. But am I the only one who thinks that both events are being driven by the exact same concept? Or am I missing something?

The original magazine sized series was 21 issues and in black and white. It was reprinted at Epic in color and took 36 issues, and had additional pages added each issue to help break the story up into smaller pieces. After that it went back to self publish, but in regular comic book size, and back to black and white for the following two series. Siege At Blue Mountain and Kings Of The Broken Wheel. After that they started playing with time travel and unloaded multiple titles by multiple creative teams. It was kind of a mess. I believe it was all in color at that point. One or two of the series at that time may have been good but I haven't read enough to know for sure. I plan on reading it all anyway, even though I already know I am not going to like all of it. They're bargain bin comics at this point so why not. The issue I have, I believe, is in color but still written by the creators and from the first series. Yes, it is. This is the one I have: I don't know if you are into digital comics, but the entire 30+ year run of Elfquest is available to read for free on their website: elfquest.com/gallery/OnlineComics/digitalEQ.htmlThe original series (21 issues in black and white magazine or 36 in Epic color format) is one of my favorite comic stories ever. The stuff that follows is okay, but for me doesn't match the original story. I highly recommend the original run though.

If it is not made in hardcover, and I cannot get it that way, then I will get it in TPB. Eventually. Well, soon.

DC released the original series in hardcover a few years ago. That version is called Elfquest: Archives. They are out of print. Amazon has volume one for $30 here. There are four volumes that collect the entire original series in color, but the last one gets pretty pricey by the looks - the cheapest one on Amazon is $65 though maybe you can find it cheaper elsewhere. There are also giant softcover black and white editions, which are a great deal in my opinion since the series was originally in black and white anyway. The first volume collects the entire original series in one 720 page epic. Amazon has it new for just $18.

The old hardcovers are super cool but yeah not cheap. The Father Tree Press ones came in hardcover too, also hard to find.
My favorite way to read them is the original magazines. I bought the whole set for $20 on eBay. I may have gotten lucky though, the cheapest set I see right now is $40 plus $16 shipping.
My second choice would be the new softcover volume. The DC stuff was best avoided because they chopped up and rearranged the panels to accommodate the smaller manga format. And told the story out of order.
The Father Tree Press trades are really nice, but the binding was awful, and mine were all missing pages. But they did include the front and back covers from the magazines, the Epic covers, and the Epic additional pages, so they're pretty comprehensive.

Just finished the Miracleman Annual and overall it's rather disappointing. The Morrison/Quesada story is basicaly a scene that adds little to the ongoing Miracleman story. The Milligan/Allred story is better, taking place during the team the Miraclemen are still kept in a dreamstate and with Miracleman starting to realise that something is wrong.
