DC just announced their post Convergence plans and I have to say I am intrigued by some of these announced books; and blown away by the creative team choices on some of them. Plus they actually said they want a line of books where story trumps continuity....someone pinch me.... SO say goodbye to the new52 and hello to 48 titles meant to be diverse and accessible...color me absolutely shocked! Boxers/Saints/Shadow Hero writer Gene Luen Yang writing Superman with JR JR on art?!?!?!) Ming Dolye and Riley Rossimo on a new Constantine: Hellblazer series; Dr. Fate by Paul Levits illustrated by Shadow Hero artist Sonny Liew?!?! Humorous offerings featuring Bizarro, Bat-Mite and Prez? Again kind of shocked by this direction...happy, but shocked. -M Linkies.... DC plans diverse accessible books CBRplanned books and creative teams

Bat-Mite and Prez?? Good grief (DC still batting 0% on their ability to publish anything I want to read)

I obviously have a bias against Bendis' style, but I can't even say that his dialog is a strongpoint; page after page of dialog is not my idea of a good superhero comic. I have nothing against this in practice, many pages of Sandman were constructed that way, but it simply doesn't work for me in Avengers. When I read Sandman, I wanted that sort of thing as an experience from a stylistic perspective. I get no awe or wonder from the man's writing and have always been suspicious of the notion that human interaction is the center of the universe. I also think, from the little I've read, that he simply writes most characters with his voice and pretty much ignores differentiation in characterization. At what point did this become good writing? I've often wondered if this is simply a byproduct of the current social structure; is there a move to homogenize everything to bring us all around the same level so nothing offends, and consequentially, nothing stand out or lasts? As far as realism is concerned, I've always found that to be the most overrated aspect of the post-Watchman/DKR's era. What's most important to me is emotional resonance and substance. I can only speak for myself, but well written idealism has always moved me more than well written postmodernism. I like both, but I certainly favor one over the other. Gosh, can you imagine a Bendis-written Sandman? The Corinthian, Matthew, Morpheus and Delirium all talking in his generic "Big Lebowski" voice? Don't get me started again! I'm a raging inferno of Bendis-writing hate when ablaze!

And I'm going to pause my Bendis' ranting. Sheesh. Sorry. Please don't. The majority of his work is terrible. At least what I have had the distinct displeasure of reading. Keep going! RIP HIM UP!!! Dito previous response!

DC plans diverse accessible books CBRplanned books and creative teamsI was browsing through the list, going meh, meh, meh and then saw this: "Garth Ennis and John McCrea". Sadly about Section Eight, which I found the weakest part of Hitman (either that or Bator), but nice to see them back together. Bit weird that Ennis is willing to go back to DC after The Boys, though.

I liked Bendis on "street-level" books like Daredevil and Alias -- it was like watching a drama show -- but the stories were always so anticlimactic. And the decompression didn't help by extending the build-up.
I wouldn't miss him if he went away.

Got round to reading a couple more of this week's haul: Ms Marvel #11 hit the spot nicely, whereas Squirrel Girl #2 swung and missed. I think I'm done with that book - it's just not doing it for me at all.

I like that they're adding some humor books and I'll almost certainly give Dr Fate a shot. I'm not very familiar with a lot of those names (or previous projects), which is a good sign.

Wow, that's some weird stuff! LOVE seeing Ennis/McCrea a team again... perhaps we're actually see Hitman at some point. Omega Men is pretty cool, too. I'm not sure about a Starfire solo, but man, if you like the Titans, that's some good stuff, with her and Cyborg getting solo books!
Alot of that is 'see what sticks' kinda stuff that'll probably last 8-12 issues, but hopefully a couple of them will be good!

Normally I would be interested in both Prez and Black Canary, but I don't trust DC at all any more. I might give them a try if the reviews are really good.

Someone tell me about Jeff Lemire. He's going to be the new writer of Hawkeye when in relaunches and I'm trying to decide whether to drop the book or not.

I love his creator owned stuff-Trillium in particular from Vertigo, and thought his Green Arrow with Sorentino was the best book DC was putting out at the time, but his other mainstream hero stuff has been kind of meh for me. -M

I agree with mrp. Sweet Tooth and what I've read of Trillium are fantastic, but his Animal Man was just kinda blah and JLU is borderline awful.
