Hopefully DC won't repeat the mistakes from Amethyst and have Prez sexually assaulted in the first issue, that might help.

Prez is getting 12 issues. It's a mini-seires. Kids today. Why, in my time that was considered a maxi-series. Mini was 3 to 6 parts, maxi was 10 to 12, above that was usually "ongoing series."

Haha. I knew someone was going to comment on that.
In any case I hope it's good because the art I've seen is pretty nifty and I'd like to support more DC titles in a new direction.

Strong young female leads (Saga, Ms. Marvel, the Batgirl of Burnside, etc.) are catching on and bringing in a non-traditional audience to comics, and selling beyond expectations. In response, the old school traditional audience of speculators is snapping up the books trying to cash in on the new wave of readers, who unfortunately for speculators are just as content with a trade, digital copy, or later printing as long as they can read the story, so the books get snapped up, print runs sell out prices rise, the new customers coming still get their copies through alternate means, and old school comics fans who want to check it out and want first print print copies are stuck paying the inflated prices. The demand is there, but a lot of it is from outside the traditional core of comic fans, a new wave/generation characterized by things like the Carol Corps that Kelly Sue DeConnick's run on Capt. Marvel inspired, and this is a good thing as it brings new blood into a stale industry, and the perk imo is that these books are focusing on character, story and storytelling for the most part, as that is what is drawing these new fans in, not history, continuity, formulaic storytelling techniques that were stale decades ago and that we have seen countless times to the point they are incapable of surprising us unless they go for shock value then undo it all a month later because the old guard doesn't want real change. It feels like a breath of fresh air in mainstream super-hero for the first time since the innovations of the Silver Age and the Bronze Age changed the way stories were told during their respective times. I don't want comics that are a pale imitation of comics I loved as a kid, I want comics that excite me with new discoveries as much as the ones I encountered as a kid did. For many new readers, books like Spider Gwen are providing that. -M I do not typically read too many new comics. My current pull list for Marvel (NONE for DC) is really tiny. I actually love Ms. Marvel. I think it's adorable and fun. The art matches the story style and is equally as cute and fun. Marvel is doing this right. I haven't read Spider- Gwen yet (I want to read #1 first, but need to get a copy), but I am hoping it's just as good. I also started Inhuman, and I find that pretty decently done as well. But I may be slightly biased because I freaking LOVE Medusa. This book reminds people of what happened in the story before (without taking up half the book to do so). I haven't seen that in a current book in a while. Or maybe I have, but do not recall it. I LIKE that. It's what they used to do. Instead of just copying the same everything in the beginning of each Hickman Avengers (which is lame and rude, imo), they work the reminders into the story like how it used to be done. Gives me a warm feeling.

She's perfectly content to wait until I bring her a TPB to read instead of having to get something off the racks first day, so I'll let the speculators scoop up all the books they want and I'll buy the trades for my kid (then borrow them off of her so I can read the books myself )

And while Rat Queens is awesome, it's definitely not appropriate, imo, for younger girls to read. So, having a Ms. Marvel or a Spider-Gwen is perfect for a girl to read.

I'm pretty happy with the increased presence of female superhero characters that aren't being played up for their sex appeal, and I hope it continues into the future. I have two little girls, and I'd like to know that I can take them into a comic shop and that there will be plenty of stuff for them to look at that won't require me to have awkward conversations with them.

I really liked the first Hit mini, will have to check out this one when it gets collected. I got one of the oversized Pen and Ink editions Boom does for one of the issues of the first mini and the art is just gorgeous in the oversized format. -M

Inhuman has become quite a good read after a rocky start. The writer change early on did it good. And a lot of the covers were beautiful.
