First issue of Multiversity read much as advertised in the promotional articles and interviews from the last several months. A bit underwhelming, perhaps because so much has been given away beforehand by Morrison in interviews. I expect it will read better after the series is complete. The artwork was a serious disappointment, though. I'm not a fan of Ivan Reis but I've seen much better work from him than this. It was like he was trying to emulate the worst of 2000s-era superhero comics. Ivan Reis is probably my favorite monthly artist in comics today, but I also thought his art was a little off.

Daredevil #7 Good stuff from Waid (as always) and Rodriguez, who's proved an excellent and perfectly suited fill in for Samnee. Waid deftly weaves in his usual little plot twists and manages to avoid all the clichés and pitfalls a lesser writer might have fallen into. Nice. 4/5
Batman Eternal #20 Most of the current plots seem to be resolved in this issue. Not sure if the series was designed to be told in two halves with a few overlapping threads, or if this was something to do with the writer switch that was forced upon them. Felt a bit clunky though. Seeley's scripts are proving to be my favourite of the bunch, and really enjoyed the art, glad they're starting to allow a bit more variation to the usual sterile DC mandated New52 house style. 3/5

I actually prefer Javier Rodriguez's artwork to Chris Samnee, though Samnee is no slouch himself. I also miss Paolo Rivera's work from the early issues of Waid's run.

It took me a little bit to get used to Samnee's style, but his skill as a visual storyteller-his panel to panel, page to page storytelling-is superb. After the initial adjustment though, Samnee's become one of my favorite artists (second only to Marcos Martin on Waid's run on the title). I've seen his stuff pop up elsewhere (Shadow covers for Dynamite, an Adventures of Superman short for DC, etc.) since then and enjoyed it whenever I encountered it. I've not really checked out his earlier stuff, but the stuff since he's been on Daredevil I quite like. -M

The Map is nice, though I've yet to see a reproduction of it big and clear enough that all the text can be read with ease. This one comes the closest, but it,s still a struggle to make out the print in the two side columns.

It's partly just that I don't like this style of artwork at all. I think it's as exemplary of bad 2000-era superhero art as Rob Liefeld et al were of the 90s.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Annual 2014 Very disappointing. Loved Eastman's annual from a couple of years ago, so had high hopes for this. Art was great, but the plot was just tedious. Meh. 2/5
B.P.R.D, Hell On Earth - The Broken Equation #1 Satisfying read, as always. Hopefully this marks the beginning of some progression of the overarching plot, it feels like the current status quo has been in place for a while now and it'd be nice to see something big happen. Very Abe looking monster at the end there. 4/5

I'm down for just 13 comics total in September, though Justice League #33 slipping to next month adds one more.
