Skottie Young does have a following, I suppose. Marvel is simply in 'throw it at the wall and see what sticks' mode. I mean, who would have thought Hawkeye would be a hit? He'd had several different solos of all different types and tones before Fraction.
Grayson makes me sad... I was REALLY hoping for something resembling the old Titans to come out of Forever Evil. 'Dick Grayson, Agent of SHIELD' does nothing for me.

I was doing my DCBS orders for July. Does Marvel really think Rocket Raccoon can carry a monthly book? Scottie Young has his fans (me among them), and if they play this right, they can reach younger fans in the book stores. His "Oz" adaptations sold much better in book stores than through Diamond already. The rodent is in the upcoming movie. And they heavily promoted Rocket Raccoon with a kid-friendly "free comic book day" issue, though oddly by a different creative team. I know a lot of fans always look for FCB day books they can give away to nieces and nephews and such.

Yeah, I guess that's true. The last couple of waves of Marvel books have been more hits than misses.
The Grayson thing just confuses me. That strikes me as such a "they don't get it" move. Nightwing was one of their better selling and stable books, I don't know why they felt the need to go that direction with it. It's really sad to think that he was freaking Batman a couple of years ago, better than Bruce if you ask me, and now he's reduced to this.

Maybe it's in homage to the Diana Prince era in Wonder Woman? Or those 2 or 3 issues of the Teen Titans working for Mr Jupiter sans uniforms?

That's the solicit on DCBS. Seems to me that's what a bunch of old men consider edgy and hip and is going to suck in the young crowd.

If Skottie Young is doing a book I'll give it a look. The Oz adaptations he's doing with Shanower are outstanding books.

I thought the FCBD story was actually pretty good, and I was slightly sad to see the ongoing would have a different team as I really liked the tone and the art. But man, Scottie Young? You really can't complain too much with him involved. I'm hoping that this shapes up to be a fun book.

So I got myself this comic also this year: (Hope I picked the right type of link for these type of boards. Hermann is a classic artist, but he's still going strong at age 75. The story is a straight forward horror story: Russian soldiers receive an emergency call from station 16, a base on Nova Zembla that has been abandoned for decades. On Nova Zembla, the most amount for nuclear tests have taken place on Earth: 135 nuclear bombs have been exploded on and above the small island, including the Tsar bomb that was 4000x as strong as bomb on Hiroshima. Those tests have ... changed things.
