Is anyone else reading the Vertigo Dead Boy Detective series? I just binge read the first eight issues and really enjoyed them. If you've read the mini series or are familiar with the characters from Sandman I would highly recommend checking it out. I have the first trade. I don't have the mini, but have their Sandman issues.

Meanwhile I finally got around to read the latest Unwritten trade paperback (the Fables crossover) and found it pretty bad, which is a shame because I was really enjoying Unwritten so far. Hopefully the new series will be better. Which one is that? I've fallen a little behind with Unwritten but have 7, 8, & 9 lined up to read soon. Haven't tried Fables yet and probably won't get through all its many volumes before the Unwritten crossover, if ever. (edit: never mind, I see it says right on the front cover of Unwritten 9, "Fables" something or other.) There was a sale on this week at the LCS so I picked up a few things: Nemo: The Roses of Berlin - the latest(?) LoEG story The Unwritten 8 & 9 - more or less committed to sticking with this series to the end even though I think it's wavered a bit after a strong set-up Fatale 4: Pray for Rain - finding this a little flat, but it's decent enough that I'll stay with it since I understand it's ending soon (with volume 5?) Velvet 1: Before the Living End - like the look of the artwork and wanted to give Brubaker another chance Hypernaturals 3 - still haven't read the first two but at this price I took a chance that I'll like them enough to want to continue

Hopefully the new series will be better. I can't imagine anyone that was an Unwritten fan but not a Fables reader not hating it. It had almost nothing to do with Unwritten, really.

Oh cool, I guess that means the first issue of Ellis's run should be up on Unlimited next week.

Not that new, but from within the last couple of years, so I am putting it here: Love Waid.

Not that new, but from within the last couple of years, so I am putting it here: Love Waid. If I recall correctly, that Dan Didio quote was part of DC's explanation regarding why Batwoman could not get married to Maggie Sawyer, in response to accusations that they were afraid to have two gay characters get married. I get that they were trying to defend the move as not being anti-gay marriage (just anti-marriage in general), but it also seemed to confirm that DC is essentially committed to making comics with depressing and dreary storytelling. And while I love Mark Waid, I actually didn't like that particular bit of dialogue -- not for the sentiment expressed, but because it just felt like an odd bit of sermonizing in the middle of the story. And ironic too, considering that Daredevil himself was born out of personal loss.

Still on Multiversity, one thing I meant to mention was that if this was meant to be the issue that highlighted the DC mulitiverse version of the Marvel Universe we really didn't get to see much. I did think Morrison's Behemoth perfectly nailed what's so wrong about the Hulk, though, and did so in a way that was both funny and accurate. But if this issue was it for "Major-World", I don't think it bodes well for how much depth we're going to see in Multiversity's version of the other universes. I might check that out. I like Morrison, but don't much care for the "DC Universe" per se. I did hear one of the Multiversity issues will be Charlton-world, and I want to see his take on The Question. I picked up a FINAL CRISIS tpb for $7 credit at the bookshop. It will probably be a while before I get to it.
