Not sure what it bodes for the book or its schedule, but Rat Queens artist Roc Upchurch was recently arrested in a domestic violence dispute... storyThe arrest has been confirmed but the case hasn't been heard in court yet, so what actuallyhappened is anyone's guess, but it certainly won't help the PR for a female friendly book in this market... -M

The one new Nu52 series I am tempted to get: Secret Six. This cover is wonderful: I don't get it - is it referring to other comics characters or something? For a second I thought the red-haired couple was supposed to be a grown-up Sugar & Spike, but google images shows me that Sugar was blonde. What is not to get about a suicide bomber squirrel?

So after all the hype about what a great series it is, I finally got a chance to read the first TPB of Saga. And I have to say that I just don't get it. It's not a bad story by any means -- definitely entertaining enough to pass the time. But it feels like an odd mash-up of a lot of different concepts, with the central concept (star-crossed lovers from opposing factions) being awfully cliched. I also find the dialogue to be rather jarring. There is so much 21st century American English vernacular that it clashes with the otherworldly environment of the story.
I do find the art to be beautiful, however.

I read Kurt Busiek's new Image comic Tooth & Claw the other day and it was fantastic. It's been a long time since I've read a first issues of a new series that pulled me in and gripped me like this one did. I'm also eagerly anticipating Saga coming back. I went back and re-read the entire series to recap and to catch up and it fully "clicked" for me. It's a brilliant series. I might be jumping the gun a bit, but if it continues to impress, it might go down as Image's "The Sandman." I bought the first nine issues of The Umbral after liking the first issue. Five Ghosts is another one that grabbed me. I just wish it would come out more regularly. I'm finally caught up with The Sixth Gun, which has been one of my favorite newer series for awhile now.
The only Marvel series I'm following are Savage Hulk (big Alan Davis fan) and Silver Surfer. I've enjoyed them, but I haven't read the latest issues of either. I won't be picking up Savage Hulk unless there is a creator working on it that I care about, anyway. The only DC series I'm following is Batman by Snyder and Capullo. I've only read to issue #24 so far (the end of the first arc of Zero Year) and I'm taking my time with it. I enjoy it, and think Capullo's art is fantastic and a breath of fresh air from most Marvel and DC art, but DC and Marvel not allowing DRM-Free downloads has me strongly considering holding off buying new digital stuff from them until they stop being old, out-of-touch holdouts. This is a part of the reason why the list of Image titles I'm reading continues to grow.

I gave up around issue 5 - I found it as entertaining as watching the proverbial drying of paint.

The Multiversity: Pax Americana #1 at times felt like Grant Morrison writing an issue of Watchmen.

The Multiversity: Pax Americana #1 at times felt like Grant Morrison writing an issue of Watchmen. From most of the reports I've seen it appears he was failing miserably to write an issue of Watchmen. But I haven't read it.

Is Bounce good ? I've been meaning to try it. Surprised that I never hear anything about it. I missed a couple of singles, so I'm waiting for the TPB. Sadly they didn't have it yet. Did get a new Largo Winch though, so I got something out of this trip that I didn't expect.

Stiff competition to be sure. Not a Ramos fan at all. Speaking of variants, I grabbed the LEGO variant of Justice League United #6 today because it has J'onn on it, and the regular doesn't. It wasn't bagged, boarded and priced (as they usually do with variants), so I figured it was $3.99. Got to the register and, of course, it was $15. I tried to talk my way into getting it for cover, but couldn't. Apparently, they quit pricing the variants as such hoping people would be buying enough to not notice when a $4 book rings up as $15. Ah well. I'll go back and get it once it hits their back issue bin for $6. Wow. My LCS (well, one of them; turns out there's a second one a couple of blocks away that I just discovered) had it on the shelf for cover price. They put the more common variants on the shelf w/the regular cover, while some variants are in a case, clearly marked. I went back today to browse and start a pull. The guy who I told they should price them if they are charging more informed me that it was a system error and that all variants will now ring up at cover. So that's cool, but despite thinking I'd wait and get it out of the back issue bins for $6 I didn't buy it at cover.

Cripes, I didn't know there was a D/V #2...I am so accustomed to one-shots.

I would recommend it to anyone already enjoying Multiversity especially for the Frank Quitely artwork. Still it was weird seeing those characters play Watchmen.

I like having 2 comic stores 2 blocks apart. Today, one had the Deadpool variant cover w/Groot and Rocket for $10; the other had it at cover price.
