Thanks, I somehow knew I can count on you for that Since I do most of the grunt work on the monthly Diamond orders for our local shop, I try to keep up on this stuff even if I have little interest in reading/buying any of it. We're one of those shops where events do well usually, bit some (like Axis has) fall flat. -M

Disney licensed the rights to Big Hero 6 books to someone else. Marvel cannot put them out and cannot reprint the previous appearances. I believe Joe's Books has the American rights (as well as for a lot of other Disney properties like Frozen) for adaptations and original new material featuring the characters. The manga rights for Big Hero 6 are tied up elsewhere however. It's why they are not marketing the movie as a Marvel movie either, despite the success and goodwill Marvel Studios has with audiences right now. -M I thought Big Hero 6 made an appearance not that long ago in Amazing Spider-Man... I think it was just before the Superior Spider-Man run.

It's possible, but I know Marvel is not putting on anything tied to the movie...there was a series of articles on Bleeding Cool or CBR about the whole sordid mess that I rad, I jut cannot recall the details exactly and I am too lazy to track them down currently...

For those following along on the Rat Queens/Roc Upchurch saga... Upchurch off Rat Queens storyWiebe announced today Upchurch is off the book, they will have a fill in artist for #11 as he looks for a full time replacement artist -M YYYYEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSS. Thank God. I mean, I don't know how ANYONE is ever going to draw my girls better than he did, but at least the book can LIVE ON. Thank you for posting this!!! Wiebe is also talking about a new start which makes me think a Volume 2 is in the works, meaning a new #1. I'm not sure if Roc Upchurch's art can be surpassed, it's really a shame, but I respect Wiebe's decision more.

Of course the tricky thing is that Upchurch is the co-creator-not a work for hire artist, so he will likely get money from the book and any licensing of it whether he works on the book or not. Unless he and Wiebe worked something out differently, Upchurch likely has a 50% stake in it as co-creator.

I will say that I've enjoyed the first five issues of the new Silver Surfer series that I read on Comixology, and I was enjoying Alan Davis' Savage Hulk, until that title was put in limbo. I was under the impression that Savage Hulk was going to be a haven for Hulk fans who haven't cared for the direction the character has been going in for years (I did like Planet Hulk though); a title that was in continuity (Like that matters any more given Marvel's current continuity!) but was clearly set in the past during famous bygone eras. My understanding is that it was morphed into the Starlin Thanos vs Hulk series.
I bought the first trade of Waid's Daredevil but I still haven't read it. What I sampled was really good, so I'll probably get the first 36 issues before the relaunch eventually. If I really want to go on, I'll pick up the Daredevil in San Francisco issues, but DD not based in NYC just seems wrong to me. Eh.
I've enjoyed the Snyder/Capullo Batman run so far, but I've only read to #24. It's an odd series in that it's "good" but something about it makes me standoffish. It's like meeting a girl who, aesthetically has it all in the right places, but there is just "something" about her that you can't put your finger on that bothers you...
I'm just flat out enjoying the Image stuff more, I'm afraid. I also like the idea of putting the money more directly in the pocket of creators I like. I'm tempted to get into Brubaker's noir comics, since I enjoyed his Iron Fist and Cap runs, but I'm on the fence. Satellite Sam looks interesting, and I adore Howard Chaykin's art, but his obsession with garter-belts and stockings is bordering on parody at this point.

I'm imagining if he was removed as illustrator he will be bought out too though.

If there is no out clause in the original contract/agreement, and Upchurch doesn't want to sell his share of the book, he can't be bought out. -M

Yeah, be he probably couldn't have been removed from illustrator if he didn't agree to that either. I imagine he'd rather get what he can for his stake in the property now than make it worthless by staying attached. The only hang up is what is a fair buyout for such a fresh property with that amount of buzz?

I'd love to read a comic with the same tone of the film. Probably makes a lot of business sense. Comic books probably haven't as good a distribution standing with book stores as children's books. nd Manga sells better than superhero comic books in most places, too.

A new #1 would be great, but I just hope they find an artist who continues to keep the characters in the same likeness. I don't want all my girls drawn like twigs.
