I'll make it easy on myself and choose one for Marvel and one from DC: Batman and the Hulk (Batman represents what I always wanted to be like as an adult and the Hulk represents my emotional state as a kid. Only the harsh reality that I couldn't in fact toss around tanks saved this great nation from a rampage of wanton destruction.)

This isn't a competition, but so far we have: Batman 2 - Spider-Man 2
It could change if some would decide for just one character, instead of giving a list.

Unsurprisingly, Captain Britain.
Though the original Flash (Jay Garrick) comes a close second, as do Nighthawk of the Defenders, Vision and Swordsman of the Avengers, Angel of the X-Men, Alan Scott, Wildcat, Power Girl, Red Sonja and Judge Dredd.

I don't really have just one. Especially since the characters can change so much based on who is writing them, among other things. I love the Silver Surfer (depending on how he's handled); Bronze Age Hawkeye; The Thing; Kitty Pryde when she was an effervesecent younger teen, before she became a cynical older teen; Dick Greyson; Wolverine, before Marvel got carried away with him; Bronze Age Beast; Guy Gardner (for comedy relief); Blok; Quislet. Well, that's enough for now, I guess.

Forced to choose only one: the Flash. Always loved the character from the 1st instance as drawn by Infantino with such style and panache and also the creativity in those days in the ways he utilized his speed for not just running around town.
