I also don't understand why they picked that specific era of X-Men to do a special about. Many of the X-Men tie-ins are rather weird points: E=For Extinction: Fair enough, Grant Morrison's run is one of the big influential X-Men runs, so picking that era is fine with me. AvX: Well, it's a Scotty Young does the thing he does, so I don't count this one. It's a lot of fun though. Inferno: Not one of my favourites, but I guess it's a stand-in for mid-Claremont Era. X-Men '92: Really any fans of this era? Claremont just left, all the pieces are scattered all over the board. Lobdell would do some interesting things later on, but there he needs some time to build up. X-tinction Agenda: Again, any fans of this era? As an Apartheid South-Africa expy, Genosha lost it's meaning years ago, the story had little to no impact (killing of Warlock and changing Wolfsbane being the only bits I can think of.) Years of Future Past: OK, this one is also fair enough. Days of Future Past is one of the big stories that X-Men keep revisiting time and again, so dedicating a world to it, is fine. So that's 2 out of 5 (disqualifying AvX), skipping major runs like Lee/Kirby, Thomas/Adams, Claremont/Cockrum and Claremont/Byrne (though YoFP would count I guess). My problem with the rest of is Inferno was 89, X-tinction Agenda was 90 and X-men '92... well, that one is obvious. So that's pretty focused on a relative short period in X-Men history... a period which wasn't really a highlight IMHO.

Another mostly-awful spate of series this week: 1872, and to some extent Civil War and Spiderverse were readable, but the rest were dire. I've given up on all the X-books for the duration, so was at least spared those, but Spider-Island was awful, Master of Kung Fu was abysmal, the rest barely made any impression.

Reading back I said that Scotty Young's AvX was the only one I'm reading, but I'm also reading Captain Marvel, but to me, that one is just a continuation of the current series.

Reading back I said that Scotty Young's AvX was the only one I'm reading, but I'm also reading Captain Marvel, but to me, that one is just a continuation of the current series. My LCS pulled the 1st issue of "Captain Marvel & the Carol Corps" for me because I bought the previous series. I handed it back explaining I wasn't interested in this alternate reality crossover stuff that Marvel is once again peddling(House of M killed that for me), but it accidentally got put in with my other comics and I bought it without realizing. Since I had it, I figured I might as well try it. I was right about not wanting to read alternate reality stuff, because I really didn't like it. Doom is in control of all, and common phrases like "oh my God" were now "oh my Doom". Stupid, stupid, stupid. Then they talked me into trying the Korvac Saga, because I'll buy almost anything with the original GotG team. My mistake. Not buying anymore of any of this Secret Wars stuff. OK, maybe when I see the rest of the Korvac Saga in a quarter bin next year, maybe I'll buy it.

As far as X-Men go.... X-Men '92 is meant to be the universe of the old cartoon, not the comics... that was pretty massively popular (and still is, I think). Inferno I would have thought was going to be a de-facto Magik book, since she's been pretty important lately, but so far that's not the case. As they're doing it, it's not too exciting.
I agree X-tinction Agenda is a weird choice...maybe so Havok can be involved? Years of Future PAst and Morrison's team are both obvious... popular and unique eras. I would have chosen something around the 'new' team era... maybe do a book where Thunderbird didn't die? Or one where they didn't fake their death and hide in the Savage Land. Or something Shi'ar related? I'd think any of those would have been good choices.

I quite like the core Secret War book, but have reached the stage of apathy about the majority of the minis. As someone else commented, its hard to care for a linewide What If ? Do love Andrea Sorrentino (?) on Old Man Logan and the idea of AForce but most others seem to be B Grade artists doing tryouts, and this was, to me, one of the failings of DCs Convergence (well that and the abysmal story).

I love Western comics, so I really enjoyed 1862.

Marvel still cranking out new #1s for this massive cluster..erm.. fudge. Starlord & Kitty Pryde was terrible. On the continued issues, I'm done with Future Imperfects, after yet another dire issue. Old Man Logan wasn't bad. Marvel Zombies was OK. Agree with what pakehafulla said on the artists - lots of really poor art on these series. And, in common with most What If stories, pretty duff writing as well. Please make it stop....

Im really liking Capt Marvel and the Carol Corps, despite the clunky title. I do find some of the choices for territory odd, why would Doom choose to let the zombies and other things loose for a start...but I guess asking this to make sense is odd too. Not hating it like Simon seems to be, enjoying what I can, but waiting for the real universe to start again...

Liking the core series, and Old Man Logan. Couple of the others are OK (1872, Zombies, A-Force), but most of the rest are dreadful.

I might try Weirdworld once it's collected, unless I see something that turns me off - some preview or review or whatever. Though I must admit that I found the artwork a bit messy when I flipped through the first issue on the stands. But I only gave it a quick glance, so I'm hoping it'll work better for me if and when I give it a closer look. I like the basic idea of a fantasy series starring Arkon, a character I've always liked ever since his first appearance in the Avengers in a story that made a big impression on me as a kid.
Normally I'd be curious about the Inhumans series as well, but I'm not into the current scenario of the Inhumans as the new mutants.

Somebody lent me a copy of "Future Imperfect" #4. Greg Land's art still makes no sense. It's like the wall of an 1980s teenager, covered with clippings from magazines with no story being told. A few times, you will have a panel of a character looking surprised or stunned, only to have nothing surprising being revealed in the next panel. Horrible, horrible stuff.

Gave up on FI with the previous issue - agree Land is an appalling storyteller, not helped by his identikit porn-star faces that make everyone look the same, and every expression look ridiculously over-the-top.
Conversely, Civil War #2 was a big improvement, and Siege 1 & 2 were sort-of OK

Lovin Planet Hulk with ole Devil Dinosaur and Cap as Kamandi. Siege was okay but Im still waiting for the Inhumans to really get going. Love the look of Black Bolt with the hood by the way.

Where can I see an image of that? I've often thought they should do something about Black Bolt's mask, a traditional superhero costume feature that's never really made sense for the character - or for the other Inhumans either.
