While he’s not a record-breaker like others mentioned, Dan Dare has been published by Hulton Press, IPC, Fleetway Publications, Virgin Comics, and Titan Comics.

Of course. When did they become public domain? Or have they been public domain ever since comics became a ‘thing’?

As Frankenstein was written in 1818 so I guess so, but the Universal 1931 makeup would have been copy-written I'm sure.

I have a question about licensing , which property has been licensed the most to different comic companies? I think the Shadow has been in 4 different comic publishers. At a guess, I would say Tarzan.
Just counting US publishers there are:
Dell Western Charlton DC Marvel Blackthorne NBM Malibu Dark Horse IDW Dynamite
and I'm probably missing some.

Dell and Western were a joint partnership when the Dell banner appeared on Tarzan comics. Western basically secured licenses, created and published the comics and handled some of their distribution, while Dell did some of the rest and financing. When they split, Western pretty much took everything with them (under the gold Key banner, then Whitman) and Dell had to mostly start from scratch and acquire new licenses.

I've been toying with the idea of putting together a Tarzan collection with just the Marvel and DC versions to begin with...

You need something to occupy your spending with your Thor search finishing up. At least the Tarzan run's are "affordable" in prices and you won't need to sell any Thor's to afford them The eternal HUNT must always go on...

How close to the originals are those Facimile Editions by Marvel (I think DC did a line too)? Do they have the same ads, coloring, etc; or are they basically just "modern reprints" for lack of a better term?

It's a page by page recreation of the original including ads and text pages, but the coloring is usually retouched to display better on white paper than the newsprint it was originally printed on. Obviously the indicia is different as are some of the trade dress elements to reflect modern pricing. -M

Has anyone other than Batman and Green Arrow utilised a cave for superhero purposes?
