I'm not sure if that's how he died... but Alfred is currently dead. He left all his money to Dick Grayson, which has been an major element of the current Nightwing book. I was referring to this Another devaluing of the character, in lieu of doing something interesting... Way to go, comics. Your reputation for schlock is well-deserved.

Couldn’t have put it better, tonebone . Seems *some* Big Two comics now are adopting the Vince Russo approach to storytelling: shock for the sake of shock. Kill someone! Reveal something was a lie! Retcon something in the most shocking way!

Retcon something in the most shocking way! "Now?" Hell, son, that's been going on for decades, dating back to when Stone Cold wasn't Stone Old! It's as old as "event" comics and older, if you include misleading stunt covers and "imaginary" stories.

You’re right! Seems more ubiquitous now, but you are right.

Well, yeah........no Code, for one.
No imagination, for two.
No knowledge of biology, for three.

Hang on, the Joker removed his face?!
I am so glad 99% of my comicbook purchases are outside the Big Two, and, if they are Big Two, vintage stories. I mean, isn’t that going a bit too far?

Yeah, and I found out about it secondhand myself. A little hydrogen peroxide, a couple of cotton swabs, and I'm sure he was good to go.

You accept a man can fly without an airplane, but you object to this ? Not the believability (Who couldn't love the Unknown Soldier?) so much as the wallowing in a sty of violence.

I am from Turkey. I had seen the story in a Turkish children periodical magazine by then. It was certainly a foreign story translated in to Turkish language. The beginning of the story made me think that it was of US origin. I just checked the Grand Comics Database; they have nothing from Turkey before 1976. I tried a few keyword searches but found nothing. The story could have come from any publisher or any year from the 1940s to the 70s. This will be difficult to find unless someone remembers the story.

I mean we already have Jane Doe, do we need another faceless villain?

I just read Batman and The Mad Monk last night and, while I like what I've read by Matt Wagner, I just felt it was the same story I've read a half dozen times before with the blood turned up to 11,
