As others have said the John Jones Detective ID was emphasized from 1955-1959. From 1959-1964 the Martian Manhunter ID was emphasized more until the "death" of the John Jones ID in Tec #326. Then MM went from Detective Comics into House of Mystery from 1964-1968.From 1972-1984 he hardly appeared. Around the time of Crisis his John Jones ID was restored & he again became a JLA member. Most of what readers know about J'onn's backstory was established post Crisis. I think he ceased being Superman Lite & became his own character.

I hate to play the contrarian but I disagree with Juggernaut. I'm the same age and I can honestly say that no one I personally know from my generation of fans believes that the Martian Manhunter is "the heart and soul of the Justice League" (although you could make a convincing argument that that has become true in the last couple of decades). Most of us saw him as an uninspired Superman ripoff with an even sillier weakness. None of my friends shed a tear when he was dropped from the team around #71. I'd never really cared for the character until he was revamped post-Crisis by DeMatteis and Badger. I'm not saying Juggy is wrong, only that his experience is 180°from mine. Cei-U! I summon DC's very own jolly green giant! That's fine with me ... and I respect your opinion here in very respectful fashion - but to me he's a big favorite of mine and most of you find him to be an uninspired Superman ripoff and that's hurts me a little (honestly) bit. For the Record, I did not read much of the Justice League during the Bronze Age of Comics and that's when was basically disappeared from the pages of JLA and came back a couple of guests shots that tingramretro said to me earlier and that's something that I did not know at all. I was in school and starting my career and I was basically out of comics for the whole 1980 decade and having said that I have no clue what was the JLA was doing then. Right now, this is my last post talking about the Martian Manhunter and I just wanted to share my thoughts to shaxper of my love for this character and I find this character unique, fascinating, and the boldness of his costume is a plus for me. And. last and not least, I did not know that he has numerous appearances in Detective Comics that @mrp explained to us quite extensively and in impressive fashion that I was stunned when I read his post earlier. This surprises me and having said all that I'm sorry that I've created a storm of problems when I tried my best to Shaxper to assist him in my own knowledge of Martian Manhunter of which I tried my best to explain to him. For that alone, I'm sad to learn that there aren't many fans of him here in this forum and that's hurts me a lot and that's why I'm no longer be helping anyone here with questions concerning Superheroes, Villains, and any other characters that you can think of and this is my last post on this thread. I will read it and not respond to it. Respectfully Submitted,
Juggernaut.

It's okay to disagree with someone. It's not a personal dig at your character.

Juggernaut. Hi Juggernaut I hope you reconsider. I enjoy your contributions to this site. We all have favorite characters that others may not enjoy as much. Michael

I'm going to say Karen Page. She was forever getting teary eyed over Matt, or Mike, or whoever else happened to be passing. The woman had serious problems, I think. She should have been on some heavy medication.

Page. That's why she turned to the horse later on.

Here's a What Ever Happened To question. What ever happened to the original Whirlwind, Radioactive Man, and Melter?

The Melter was killed by the Scourge of the Underworld in Avengers #263.
As far as I know Whirlwind and Radioactive Man are still active in the Marvel Universe.
