Even better, when you buy the paper copy via the website, access to the digital version is included. Just have the hard copy sent to me.
Win-win!

I've been neglecting this thread - Roy has posted several requests but I've been swamped by Real Life. Here's what you've missed. If you have something he's looking for, let me know.

Hi List--
Want to use a cover of Ace's FOUR FAVORITES comic from the WWII years as the cover of an issue of ALTER EGO... but need a far better scan than the GCD has. I need good scans of the covers of FOUR FAVORITES #4, 5, & 9. Naturally, the person who sends the scan used for the cover--not sure which issue it'll be yet, alas--will receive a copy of the issue, about a year from now. The others may be used in the issue in place of lower-res scans we now have, in which case one or two more people may get comp copies. In any event, your help will be appreciated... by me and by others. __________________________________________________________________________
Hi List--
Two or three of you responded with scans of the covers of one or more of the above covers of the Ace title FOUR FAVORITES... but layout man Chris Day informs me that none of these is good enough to be used as a cover. What we really need is at least a 300 dpi if not more hi-res cover... sent hopefully NOT to me, but to Chris at chris@chrisdaydesign.com, with just a note to me telling me it's been sent. It seems I need to find someone out there with an actual copy of the mag... doesn't appear scans from places like Comic Book Plus (let alone GCD) will help in this case. Our plan has been to use the cover of #4 as that of AE #144, but we might use that of either #5 or #9 instead if we need to. __________________________________________________________________________
Hi Folks--
Need a bit of help from someone out there. In the interview that'll be appearing in ALTER EGO #137, Jim Shooter says that his first work walking into Marvel in the 1970s (after a brief staff job there circa 1969) was when I gave him a "Man-Wolf" story to do. Now, I don't believe it's me he was remembering-- must have been Len Wein, maybe Marv Wolfman, after I stepped down as ed-in-chief... but mainly I'm trying to figure out where any Man-Wolf story written by Jim Shooter was published. Doesn't seem to be in CREATURES ON THE LOOSE. Maybe one of the black-&-white mags? A copy of AE #137 to the first person who gives me the right answer... plus my gratitude. ___________________________________________________________________________
Hi List--
Wondered if anyone has access to Dan Maraka? Dan and I made a deal for his "Irwin Hasen" documentary to be transcribed for ALTER EGO... but now I find myself not getting any responses when I e-mail him, and I wondered if he's one of those people who've moved on to Facebook, Twitter, et al., and no longer checks his e-mail... or perhaps the e-address I have is no longer valid. It's essential I get in touch with him soon, so I hope someone can help. I may soon be reduced to writing him a letter--and just hoping that he hasn't MOVED, too! ___________________________________________________________________________
hi List--
Thanks to Shane Foley, et al., for their comments. I don't recall the Lee-Buckler Man-Wolf thing at all, but I'll look into it. I can't comment on Tony Isabella's statement, as I don't know precisely what he's referring to. I've had my own differences with Jim in similar areas, as is well known... but every case deserves separate treatment. For instance, in the interview coming up in ALTER EGO #137 in December, he talks of working in the bullpen briefly circa 1969 (70? I forget exactly), which I recall, though our paths barely crossed... and, perhaps as a result of that, he forgets that I was there. He also says John Romita didn't come on staff till later, but of course, Romita came on staff in summer of 1965, only 2-3 weeks after I went to work for Marvel and was there consistently after that for decades... but I put that down to simply a lapse of memory, such as we all have. ___________________________________________________________________________
Hi Folks--
An odd request, unlikely to answered... but I couldn't resist trying. Jim Shooter relates, in his interview for AE #137, that he spotted a mistake in a MILLIE THE MODEL story during his 3-week stint as a Marvel staffer in 1969... a reference to the main punchline (and theme?) of a story being the planet Mars. Does anyone have a copy of that issue (don't know the name or date), so that they could send me a scan of the story's final page? No big deal... but it would be nice to have! ___________________________________________________________________________
Hi List--
We're looking for a good, hi-res image of a photo that shows the outside of the San Diego Convention Center at Comic-Con time, with the big "Comic-Con International" sign showing, lots of people, etc. Google images aren't strong enough, even though there's one at least there that perfectly fits the description above. We'd really appreciate it if someone has some ideas where to find such a photo. We can't go through the Comic-Con itself because, although we've no quarrel with them certainly, they want to see the accompanying article before they cooperate with anything, and I don't let that kind of thing happen. So we need a photo that we can use without seeking anyone's permission... even though there should be nothing in the accompanying article (about David Siegel's lining up Golden Age artists for the Con for 15 years) that they should really object to. ___________________________________________________________________________
Hi List--
I know it's a year away, but ALTER EGO #144 is in preparation, and here's the rough info I sent TwoMorrows publisher John Morrow for the blurb in PREVIEWS, etc.:
ALTER EGO #144: "Aces High!" The story of Ace Comics in the 1940s and '50s, told by MARK CARLSON--with super-heroes like Magno & Davey--Lash Lightning--The Raven--Unknown Soldier--Captain Courageous--Vulcan--The Flag--Mr. Risk--and more! Art by the likes of HARVEY KURTZMAN, JIM MOONEY, DAVE BERG, L.B. COLE, RUDY PALAIS, HARRY ANDERSON, HARRY SAHLE, B. CURRIE, et al. Plus--RICHARD ARNDT interview with BILL HARRIS, 1960s-70s editor of Gold Key and King Comics--with art from The Phantom, Flash Gordon, Mandrake, etc. Plus FCA, Comic Crypt, and Comic Fandom Archive. Cover by B. CURRIE from a 1940s issue of Ace's FOUR FAVORITES. __________________________________________________________________________
I know that people have sent pictures of the Convention Center but I don't know if any of them are usable. Someone found a story about Mars in Chili #10.

Hi Folks--
Just wondering-- if anyone out there is in touch with Mark Schomburg through Facebook or some such, I'd appreciate it if you could tell him that I've tried (twice) to respond via e-mail to the e-mail that he sent me... but even though I sent it to the e-address on his original message, my reply bounced back to me as "undeliverable." Weird, huh? ______________________________________________________________________________________________________

Roy posted this earlier this afternoon, and for a change he's looking for 90s stuff. Get in touch ASAP if you can help: _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Hi Folks--
Sorry to bother you about something I should be able to take care of myself...but I can't quite. I'm readying ALTER EGO #139, which (behind a beautiful Rafael Kayanan cover) deals with my work in the '90s on Conan and Stan Lee's aborted Excelsior line, as well as my work for Topps, Cross Plains, etc. Weirdly, at just this time, I'm having some of my comics bound for the first time in two decades... and, since I can't usually get good copies from my already-bound volumes and can't lay my hands on spare copies of a few other items, I'm hoping someone can help out in exchange for copies of the issue. Naturally, the copies have to go to the first person who sends the scan I use... so you may wish to contact me before bothering to do the scans, and I'd certainly understand that. Here are the few things I know that I need right now:
A few good pages to choose among from the 3-issue series CONAN: LORD OF THE SPIDERS (with the sorcerer turning into a spider, that kind of thing, as well as Conan)... can't tell precisely which pages I want to use till I see them, 'cause I can't right now lay my hands on any copies to look at.
A few good pages to choose among in the 3-issue series CONAN: DEATH COVERED IN GOLD.
Splash page of "The Coming of Conan" re-do by Buscema from SAVAGE SWORD OF CONAN #222
Splash page from SAVAGE SWORD OF CONAN #220 (Conan and Solomon Kane)
May have a few others as I go along...
Thanks for listening!
Best wishes, Roy _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Here's the latest from Roy: ____________________________________________________________________________________________
Wondered if anyone could send me a good scan of the cover of DEATH RATTLE #8 and/or a page or two from the story "Xenozoic!" therein, by Mark Schultz--pages that show the tentacled alien creatures. Need it for AE #139, which deals in part with my work on the Topps series CADILLACS AND DINOSAURS in the mid-90s. Naturally, the first person who provides the scan we use will receive a copy of the issue. ___________________________________________________________________________________________
In other TwoMorrows news, there will be two issues of Alter Ego arriving at comic shops by Dec. 23. Diamond lost track of the shipment of AE #136 and Back Issue #85 which were supposed to go out in November. They've found them, but the next issue is ready to go, so #136 and #137 will be out simultaneously.

I actually asked my Comic Shop guy about that recently. "You know, my pull box is usually half magazines! What's the deal! Also, why did you let them cancel Squirrel Girl!"
So good to know!
