Roy got the Death Rattle scans a few days ago. Here's his latest request: _______________________________________________________________________________________
Wondered if anyone could send me a good interior scan or two from the Topps SPACE: ABOVE AND BEYOND comics I did in the 1990s. Looking for a good space one... one with the characters...maybe one that also shows the aliens, the "chigs."
Thanks, Roy _______________________________________________________________________________________

Roy needs more from the 90s: ______________________________________________________________________________________________
Hate to keep asking for handouts for my 90s stuff, but could someone possibly provide me with one good page from an early issue of the Topps HERCULES, along with date, #, and artist info--and the name of the story, if it's not a splash page?
Just one more thing I could use a bit of help with re the XENA Topps material. I have a number of loose comics from that comics series, but none I can locate with Joyce Chin art. She did perhaps the first XENA issue I did, which co-starred Gilgamesh. Could use a good page or two from that one! __________________________________________________________________________________________

He's looking for a photo instead of an art scan this time: ____________________________________________________________________________________
Wondering-- does anyone have a decent photo of artist Rey Garcia? The only one I found on Google is way too small to be used.
Thanks for listening, Roy ____________________________________________________________________________________

I've skipped posting a few in the last couple of months, but this one came in this morning: ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Wonder if someone could help me with a few pages I could use of stories written by Don Glut in the 60s and 70s for Warren (EERIE and VAMPIRELLA) and other non-Marvel sources.
I have a fair amount of DAGAR, but could use a few good splashes or pages from THE OCCULT FILES OF DOCTOR SPEKTOR and pages from TRAGG AND THE SKY GODS that show the earthians interacting with the aliens in particular.
Thanks, and naturally if a page you send is used, you'll receive a copy of that issue, #143. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

He's looking for scans of pages that look good - usually splash pages, or pages that have Don's name in the credits, but other particularly photogenic pages would be fine too. I'll send you Roy's contact info.

The latest missive from the rascally one:
Doug Moench and I are looking for a good photo of him, preferably from the 1970s and preferably (though not necessarily) in color, to go with his interview coming up in ALTER EGO. Anybody have any ideas? We need fairly good scans, since this is a cover photo.

Lifted from my Writers' Spotlight: Doug Moench banner: It's the only pre-1990s color photo I've ever seen of Moench. Also, which issue of Alter ego will that article appear in? Man, I'd love to throw Roy a few questions to include in that interview!

Today's message from Roy:
I'm looking for good scans of a few STAR WARS-related items... could really use some help on this one.
(1) I don't know the precise issue #s, but three consecutive issues of the magazine STAR WARS INSIDER serialized an interview with my late friend Ed Summer (conducted by J.W. Rinzler, whom I'm also hoping to make contact with) on Ed's connection to STAR WARS. I have b&w photocopies of the first two parts and am mostly looking for good scans of some of the art and photos accompanying those parts of the interview... but I haven't seen the third part, so looking to borrow, buy, or at least get full scans of that piece... along with info on the number and dates of the issues.
(2) Also looking for a good scan of the 1976 STAR WARS poster, labeled "The Designing of 'Star Wars'" and showing a schematic of a space ship against a sea of stars, and heralding the production drawings of Ralph McQuarrie and Joe Johnson. It was evidently done in conjunction with a 1976 New York con that occurred before the San Diego Con that year at which Howard Chaykin and I appeared on behalf of STAR WARS and our forthcoming comics adaptation of it.
Of course, other STAR WARS rarities connected to the early days of the comic book (mostly the first 10 issues, which I wrote, since later issues really fall under the jurisdiction of ALTER EGO's sister mag BACK ISSUE) are also welcome.
I'll also post this in our Star Wars-related threads.

The latest from Roy the (75-year-old) Boy:
Just starting to work on ALTER EGO #144, which will feature two pieces in particular on which I could use your suggestions and help:
(1) An article on the history of Ace Comics, from the early 1940s until the end in the mid-1950s. Author Mark Carlson-Ghost has sent a number of scans of super-hero and other art, but I'm open to suggestions of particular pieces to use. And in particular, I need to locate copies of some artwork that may be by Al Feldstein... and even more so, the Mr. Risk stories drawn by Harvey Kurtzman that my friend Gil Kane always lauded (both to me and, for that matter, to Harvey himself).
(2) Bill Harris started off as an editor at Dell, then switched to Gold Key through early 1965 (with comics he worked on coming out a bit later than that, of course), and then edited for King Comics briefly in the late 1960s. Could use some art from the comics during these period, especially of the action heroes such as Phantom, Mandrake, Flash Gordon, etc., but also other pieces. Or photos of Bill, for that matter...or of some of the artists he worked with. I'll check on the names of some of those and perhaps do a second posting about them...

This time Roy needs something from 1980:
Wondered if anyone could supply me--and thus ALTER EGO--with the splash page of MAN-THING, Vol. 2, #2 (Jan. 1980). Needed for a letter re Jim Mooney in AE #144. Naturally, a copy of the issue will go to the person who supplies us with the scan we use.

Roy is looking for rare material related to Marvel's Star Wars comics:
Kind of an unusual request this time. ALTER EGO #145, out this coming February, will celebrate the 40th anniversary of... well, not really the film, but the Marvel comic book. If anyone has any unusual art, etc., that would fit in that issue, now would be a good chance to share it with me. Naturally, anything used in the issue will bring the supplier a copy of the magazine. I have a treasure trove of rare stuff already, but can always use more... particularly stuff on STAR WARS (the comic and to some extent the movie) from the late 1970s.

More from Roy about Star Wars:
ALTER EGO #145, out next February, will celebrate the 40th anniversary of Marvel's STAR WARS comic (which actually apparently went on sale around March 8, 1977), a couple of months before the actual film's premiere is celebrated on a somewhat larger scale.
I don't see a lot of use in reprinting much of the 1977 comics... though there'll be a bit of that... but I could sure use early STAR WARS materials that are tangential to the comic in some way... drawings by pro artists (even if not in '77)... fanzines and national magazines responding to STAR WARS soon after the movie opened... that kind of thing.
I'm lucky to have been sent a piece on the 1978 Pendulum adaptation of the film, and the unauthorized Russian adaptation from around the same time (a few pages of it, anyway), and could use anything of that kind... to go along with covers from the British STAR WARS WEEKLY that I have (though I DON'T have much info on who drew them, as the GCD lacks that info), for instance.
Naturally, anything sent to me for the first time by someone, and used in AE #145, will bring the sender a free copy of the issue.
