Prepping an Edmond Hamilton special for ALTER EGO #187, and have most
of the DC and SF work of his I need... but discovered that he scripted
the story "The Connoisseur of Crime" in the 1940s GREEN LANTERN #18.
Could use the splash and a couple or so of good pages from that story,
if anyone has access to a decent scan. Naturally, art scans used will
garner the sender a copy of the issue.

Gulp! Layout guru Chris Day has just informed me, as he winds up the
first draft of ALTER EGO #187, that a number of the scans I forwarded to
him (which came from readers eager to help) are far too lo-res to be
able to be reproduced at the size we'd like. Thus, I'm hoping that a few
of you out there may have easy access to scans of the following that you
KNOW are hi-res and will be willing to forward them to me. Naturally,

Hi Folks--

John Broome was kinda proud of some of the HOPALONG CASSIDY stories he
wrote for DC (he only did one known one for Hoppy's Fawcett
incarnation),and I was wondering if anyone had any scans of any stories
he did, which could be included with his interview in ALTER EGO #188.

The latest:

Looking for a little help with a couple of upcoming issues of ALTER EGO. AE #189, which I'm finishing putting together by the end of this month, is dedicated to John Romita, while #192 (six months later) features Mark Carlson-Ghost's article on the pre-Silver Age super-hero revival of the 1950s. I seem to have a source (Thanks, Doc V.!) for most of the Romita-related material for these two issues, but need copies of the following which Michael J. can't supply... and I can't make satisfactory photocopies from my bound volumes.

The pages I need for AE #189 (and, if one or two get left over, they'll definitely be in #192) are the following:

YOUNG MEN #28 - Captain America, p. 1

CAPTAIN AMERICA #76 - the 3 Cap splashes

As usual, I want to emphasize that I do not want copies made from any reprint book, such as the MARVEL MASTERWORKS volumes. I have those and could make copies from them myself. The need is for copies from the original 1954 comics.

Hi Folks--

Doing an issue of ALTER EGO on jungle comics, and I have somewhere a
photocopy of a beautiful page of original art of a feature called "Jan
of the Jungle" from Fiction House--maybe RANGERS COMICS--but I can't
find any reference to that feature at all in the GCD. (No relation to
Atlas' Jann of the Jungle, of course.) Does anyone know anything about
it? Not sure if it was related to Otis A. Klein' Jan of the Jungle
series of novels.

For that jungle issue of AE, I was wondering if anyone out there had access to a page or two from Morak the Mighty in DOC SAVAGE COMICS, V1#6... I think there may have been one other Morok story, in another title. Since S&S stuff isn't public domain, it's hard to turn up, and I hate to have that small hole in the issue if we can help it.

Jan (from RANGER COMICS) was not related to Kline's Jan, but was more of a Mowgli clone, in an Indian jungle setting. (Kline's Jan did relocate to India in his second appearance, but started in the more common African setting.)

Is anybody a fan of short-lived superheroes of the fifties?

Hi Folks--

Hoping someone happens to have good 300-dpi scans from some of the
"super-hero revival" comics of the mid-1950s, and can send them along.
Naturally, comp copies of ALTER EGO #192, with Mark Carlson-Ghost's fine
article on same, will go out to all whose scans are used. Timely/Atlas'
Torch/Cap/Namor revival is pretty much taken care of, but I could sure
use the following--but NOT generally covers,since those are available on
the GCD. Here's what I need, mostly from the 1953-56 period:

AJAX/FARRELL : BLACK COBRA, PHANTOM LADY, SAMSON, WONDER BOY, THE
FLAME (including features Torpedo-Man, Red Rocket)---

Oh, and one thing I'm crazy to find: Not long before the first
Ajax title, BLACK COBRA, came out, there was a smallish ad for that
issue, with a cover image, in some Ajax comic I ran across... except
that, in the ad, Black Cobra was shown with the cobra-shaped helmet he
wore in the 1940s comics, as opposed to the domino mask he sported when
his title came out. Does anyone happen to know where that appeared? I
saw it reprinted somewhere once, but dunno where.

MAGAZINE ENTERPRISES: THE AVENGER and STRONGMAN

CHARLTON: NATURE BOY and MR. MUSCLES... anything else? And ZAZA THE
MYSTIC. Oh, and also BLUE BEETLE, of course. I have the first SPACE
ADVENTURES appearance, but not much else.

STERLING: CAPTAIN FLASH, including Tomboy feature by Meskin and others.

PRIZE: FIGHTING AMERICAN (from original comics, please, not from the
various reprints--although scans of the one or two FA stories that ONLY
appeared in the 1965-66 Harvey FA comics would work.

DELL: MANDRAKE THE MAGICIAN (in FOUR COLOR #752)

Now that would be an interesting subject. Would have loved to have read or seen an interview with him about working with Marston and some of the thematic (read: kinky) material. Of course, he died 8 years before I was born.
