I know there are Star Wars fans here.
For ALTER EGO #158, whose cover feature is the great Fawcett/DC/Marvel Golden Age writer William Woolfolk, I'm also putting pictures with the 2017 panel that Howard Chaykin, Charles Lippincott, and I did about STARS WARS comics--the first time in 41 years we'd been together (since the presentation at the 1976 San Diego Comic-Con, 10 months or so before the film came out). I'm looking for a good scan of the sample strips that Al Williamson did retelling the story of the first STAR WARS movie. I remember they were printed (not too sharply, as I recall) in a magazine, and I actually have a copy of a page from that mag... but it's not good enough to print from. I'm hoping that someone has the actual magazine and can make me a new 300 dpi scan.
Thanks for listening,
Roy

Last request of the year:
Happy Holidays! I know it's a tight time between Christmas and New Year's, but I can't help it... I'm only days away from a deadline on a William Woolfolk-centered issue of ALTER EGO (#158) and find myself coming up a bit short on pages of comics written by this "Shakespeare of the Comics," even his Fawcett work. I've got his MAD HATTER books, but could use a bit more of his DC, Fawcett, Marvel, and other work... not a mountain of material, but just a few pages. Sorry I can't be more specific than that... I have so little that chances are that nearly anything sent will be potentially helpful. Anybody got just a few scans out there they could send at once? Naturally, credit and a copy of the issue will come to any whose sendings are used, so please include your mailing addresses if you don't think TwoMorrows and I have them.
Thanks for listening,
Roy

Roy needs some key Silver Age Marvel books scanned:
This isn't for ALTER EGO, but for a book I'm helping with for Folio Books, over in England. They're doing giant-size books reprinting about 300 pages each from key Marvel comics, two volumes, one from the 40s, one from the 60s... I've chosen the stories and now have to see if I can help find issues that can be scanned. Nothing from reprints... just from the original comics, done hopefully at 600 dpi, though they might accept 300 in a couple of cases. I know from my various correspondents that this can be time-consuming, because each page must be done separately, and they need, in all cases but one, the entire issue's story content plus the cover. They can arrange a token payment that might pay someone for his time, plus a copy of the book (which will probably cost $150-$200, if my guess is any good), plus credit... but I guess it's best to contact me first.
Here are the books they need scanned hi-res from the original 1960s comics: AMAZING FANTASY #15 (Spidey origin cover only on this one)..... AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #50... FANTASTIC FOUR #1... INCREDIBLE HULK #1... SILVER SURFER #3... X-MEN #4.
Thanks for listening,
Roy

I know we have some strange sports fans here, but Roy needs some specific Strange Sports Stories:
Wondered if someone had a good scan of the Broome-written "Danger on the Martian Links" from BRAVE AND BOLD #46 or "Saga of the Secret Sportsmen" in B&B #47. Can only send a free AE to the first person to send me one, so don't go to a lot of trouble over this one. Broome wrote a story in #49, too, but I already have that one.
Thanks for listening,
roy

Haven't had one of these in a while...
JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #88 cover hi-res
I don't want to cause duplication, 'cause I hate wasting anyone's time and not being able to give out a free copy of ALTER EGO to all who answer the call, but is there someone out there perhaps with the ability to send a hi-res (at least 300 dpi scan) of the above Adams/Giordano cover to Chris Day at chris@chrisdaydesign.com ? We're putting together some AE covers and need that art ASAP... but perhaps someone who has it could contact me first?
Thanks for listening!

Roy needs some Dave Cockrum art - any Cockrum fans here?
Well, it's that time again. I'm putting together an issue of ALTER EGO devoted primarily to the work of the great Dave Cockrum... and while I have plenty of artwork (from his wife Paty and other sources), there are a few specific items that the Cockrums refer to in an interview that I could use a bit of help locating. To wit:
(1) Dave mentions a back-up Superman feature called "The Fabulous World of Krypton" which dwelt with "mutant Kryptonian children," in which he drew a girl with cleavage and the Code made him take it out. Now, obviously, it would be hard to pinpoint the particular panel, but does anyone have access to a page that deals with those "mutant Kryptonian children"?
(2) He tells of a scene he sneaked into "Legion of Super-Heroes" of Dream Girl lying in bed, and "if you look very closely you see somebody else's head lying under the covers next to her." This one got by the Code, apparently, and I'd love to be able to run it in AE, but Dave didn't give the particular issue, etc. Any Legion fans know which page/panel he's talking about?
(3) Dave also mentions "one panel of the Hulk where I drew him punching through a brick wall" which was reprinted many, many times... so that he said that if he had a nickel for every time they used that piece of artwork, he'd have retired rich. Can anyone ID (and hopefully provide a scan from) the story--which may have been in some other title besides HULK, of course.
Naturally, we can credit and send a freebie copy of ALTER EGO #163 to the person or persons who first provide this material. But anybody who responds has our thanks.
And thanks for listening,
Roy

A repeat plea from Roy today:
I'm getting a bit desperate, so resorting to send out this call again.... hoping that someone who didn't respond before will notice it this time.
I need a good scan (at least 300 dpi) of the cover of CAPTAIN AMERICA COMICS #59 (Nov. 1946), to be utilized as the cover of an upcoming issue of ALTER EGO that will be centered on artist Syd Shores.
Several people, last time, obligingly sent me copies picked up from the Grand Comics Database or other places on the Internet, but none of them was of sufficient quantity to be used as the cover. Perhaps someone knows someone who has a copy of that comic that can be scanned? We could pay him a token fee to do so, etc.
Sure, I could use another Shores drawing... but I want this one, which shows Cap and Bucky striding along toward their postwar future.
Thanks for listening,
Roy

This one scan is pretty large... 300 dpi, 1024 x 1572 pixels, bit depth 24 Someone else sent him a 600 dpi scan, but Roy is very generous with people who help with this stuff, and he says he's going to send me a copy of that issue of AE when it comes out. You deserve the credit, but I don't want to bother Roy, so if you PM me your address, I'll send it along when it arrives. Or might we possibly see you at an Emerald City Con in Seattle, and hand it to you in person?

I didn't really do a thing. I was enjoying some of the '40s Marvel scans at that site and thought they were quite large. I've bought various AE and Back Issue in pdf and am happy to pay to add that one at some point as I am definitely interested in Syd Shores. I appreciate the offer though! I hope to be in Oregon in the spring but we started bypassing Seattle because of the increasingly crazy traffic (used to do Folk Life every year but have cut even that out). I do want to get to Beaverton some time.

A question from Roy:
Just wondering... William Foster III mentions (in an interview to be published in ALTER EGO #173-174) a Superboy story, probably in the 1960s, in which Superboy goes to Africa. Wonder if anyone has any idea what issue/comic that might be.
