Finished Bone: Quest for the Spark vol. 1 (Prose Novel.) I dunno... it feels really close to the original Bone (what do you call a 60 issue trilogy?) with weaker characters and less interesting world building. Plus it's just not funny! I liked the drawings though.
Also re-reading Grant Morrison's Seven Soldiers because of the Ten Years Ago thread. Shining Knight # 1-2 and Klarion the Witch Boy # 1 count as "Fantasy" right? Anyway, they are super totes amazing good. Don't let anyone tell you different. I think there's a trade of Frazetta's Shining Knight stuff. I'm gonna try to interlibrary loan that, just for a little classic reading.

My second entry for the month is Marvel Fanfare #26, an entry in Doug Moench's Weirdworld saga. The definition of fantasy can sometimes be blurry, but I'm sure this tale of elves and dwarves fighting evil wizards on a quest for a mystical sword will neatly fit in to it. Much as I love Moench, his Weirdworld stuff never did it for me. It all felt far too derivative.

I just read the limited series Avataars: Covenant of the Shield. It's basically an alternate version of the Marvel Universe merged with Arthurian legend. Captain America is now Captain Avalon - King Arthur - and the Avengers are his knights of the round table. There are Arthurian versions of all the various MU heroes and villains. It's pretty fun stuff, though not exactly groundbreaking. Sounds interesting, never heard of that one somehow. However, it makes me want to dig out my Camelot 3000 trade and read that gem again.

Dove back into Grell's Warlord run that I have been reading on and off for a bit now, and read #31-36, making 10.5 fantasy comics fro the month so far.
The Grell run seems a bit meandering right now, lacking strong direction, but the introduction of Shakira and the magic resistant Hellfire blade have spiced things up a bit. Still wish Grell inked himself or had anyone but Vince Colletta inking his pencils on this.

Fables is knocking my socks off so far. Just finished volume four. Now I'm regretting not buying all the related series in the recent big Comixology sale.

That sounds like a good chunk of my collection. I read a snippet of a storyline; enjoy and want it all; spend years cobbling together all the pieces (often across multiple companies and years or even decades); and mostly either haven't completed or haven't read the full storyline.

The Warriors of the Shadow Realm arc from Marvel Super-Special was as good as the series got, but it never really developed its concepts, characters, nor setting into something with enough substance to keep me interested. It teased a few good ideas at the start and then never significantly developed them.

Fables is knocking my socks off so far. Just finished volume four. Now I'm regretting not buying all the related series in the recent big Comixology sale. The related series are distinctly meh. Jack's solo book has it's moments, but it's pretty much completely separate, other than 'The Great Fables Crossover', which is the low point of the series (both series, really) anyway. It gets rather meta (a bit like Deadpool, but not QUITE so over the top) as it goes. The Cinderella minis are good spy stories, they're worth reading, but not essential. 'Wolves of the Heartland' is basically just a Bigby Solo book. Then there's Fairest. The 1st arc is REALLY important... don't miss that. The rest is less so. The Beauty and the Beast one is mildly important, too. Then there's a few side stories, and it end with picking up and finishing a dangling plot line or two from the main book... which you'll probably want to read if you get there.

Cool, thanks wildfire, that makes me feel better about not owning them all. I do own the Cinderella stuff, and hopefully the library will have Fairest. A few people on my other forum are doing a Fables read thru. Is it ok if I put your quote over there?

Read 36-40 of Warlord, making the total 14.5 fantasy comics for the month so far.
CB was right, the story in Warlord is picking up steam. I predicted the twist at the end of #40 as soon as the political marriage was mentioned, but it is one hell of a plot twist, that's for sure.

Read Courtney Crumrin and The Twilight Kingdom, collecting the 4-issue Oni miniseries. Beautiful edition of a great work. I still have trouble deciding what age this is best for. It has all the hallmarks of a children's work, but it's so dark. And dark in a very poignant and powerful subtextual sort of way.
Puts me at 6 issues for the month.
