It seems more complicated to me, but if it works better for him I'm fine with it.

For the contests where there has been a tie, two-way or other, what is the longest we have had to wait until a tiebreaker is cast? Oddly, I'm usually the one to cast that vote, because my Tuesdays are really busy and I rarely get a chance to cast during the regular voting time, but I'm at work by 6:30 on Wednesday mornings and have been able to cast my vote then to break the ties.
My personal opinion is that this overly complicates things, but at the end of the day, I'm not the one having to tally the votes (although I would if needed).

The cover contest has worked just fine for...probably close to a decade. I can't see any reason to change it.

"Urgent" might be a word better used sparingly. This is a good discussion, but it's hardly an emergency

Leave it the way it is.

The only person that seems to have a problem with the tie breaker system is you Mecha, and it works just fine unless you are impatient. You don't seem willing to give it time to play out. We have people scattered all over the world in different time zones and people can't always check in on the site whenever they want-jobs, families, sleep or whatever other commitments they have mean it can take a few hour before someone checks in to see there is a tie and hasn't voted yet, so can break the tie.
The only time it is an issue is if you expect the situation to be resolved within minutes of the end of voting. The only problem with the way it works now is you are not willing to wait for it to resolve.
If you change the way the contest works, change the way voting is done and make it more complicated, you are making it less likely people will participate.
I appreciate the work you do, but the contest belongs to the community, not to one member and any decision has to serve the needs of the entire community, not one member of it. The contest has been a pillar of this community since it started, and had a long track record of working just fine elsewhere before we gave it an adopted home here. I don't see the changes you propose as making the contest better or easier for everyone. It's more work for everyone to participate if we go that way, and if it causes less people to participate, then it is bad for the community.
If moderating the contest stresses you out, take a break. I'd rather change the moderator than change the contest. All it needs is someone to step up to tally the votes after voting closes each week and for them to drop a PM to the winner, and it doesn't have to be the same person each week.
All a tie means is you have to wait a little bit for one more vote. I just don't understand why that is such an issue.

It's seems that this concept is more negative than positive and having said that - I'm bowing out after next Tuesday Vote and leave the voting to whoever wants to do it and proceed from there. I've to respect everyone opinions here and looks like that this idea has been rejected for all it's worth.

Didn't it used to work that whoever won, posted the next contest, and then also tallies the votes on their contest to award the next winner?
If Mecha wants to step down (and I do hope he participates in the contests), then maybe just go back to that?

I dont like change. As for ties, generally I think if nothing is settled by 8-9pm Wednesday night, then maybe Mecha or the vote counter can just cast the vote. But be patient. I mean, I thought I was antsy, checking the boards a few times throughout my mornings but if I can wait, others can too

The only tie was when Mecha contacted CB and cooper and told them to decide amongst themselves who was the winner when they were deadlocked. We should have waited for a tie breaking vote that day instead.

I'm down with this and if on a given week, the contest winner can't do it, I'll fill in for that week if they drop me a note and let me know they need me to. The contest is well enough established now that it can be self-regulating. -M

If the situation ever gets that bad, we should just use the old Big 10 Rose Bowl tie breaker. The person that's gone the longest without winning is the tie breaker winner. Of course, a first time winner would trump that.
