One of the reasons I like DC more than Marvel was that DC used sidekicks more. So here are my favorites & why:
1. Robin (Dick Grayson). The first. Grew into a character as famous as his mentor. 2. Kid Flash (Wally West). Became The Flash. Was as good/even better than Barry. His series was awesome. 3. Bucky. Was great as both Capt America & The Winter Soldier. 4. Batgirl (Barbara Gordon). IMO the best female sidekick both as Batgirl & as Oracle.

It would be interesting to debate if Barbara Gordon would even qualify as a side-kick, as she pretty much worked independently.
But, if we're counting her, then yeah. She belongs on my list too.

I know she operated independent of Batman but she wouldn't exist w/o Batman. So I still think of her as a sidekick. And I loved the Robin/Batgirl team ups in Batman Family

I loathe costumed kid sidekicks so none of them would make my list. I do, however, love comic relief sidekicks, my favorites being Woozy Winks, Doiby Dickles, and Stretch Skinner. I also have a soft spot for animal sidekicks like Zabu, Redwing, Squeeks, Lobo (Red Wolf's lupine companion) and Static the Proverb Parrot.
Cei-U! I summon the flea collar!

Rick Jones; not only was he the sidekick of the Hulk and Captain America, but he was the alter-ego of Captain Marvel. His various occupations, from ham radio enthusiast to rock star, clinch the deal for me. Robin is easily the most popular teen sidekick, but for my money Rick Jones is the most interesting.

Not big on the whole idea, and I suspect that if I went through the list of whatever few exceptions I might be able to come up with, they were exceptions precisely in that they stopped being sidekicks and became interesting characters in their own right. I'm not a huge fan of Rick Jones, but that could be one possibility. And I think most readers would agree that Marvel has made Bucky a better character as the Winter Soldier than he ever was as CA's teenage sidekick. Who else is there ...
I might agree with Cei-U about animal sidekicks except I don't think of them as sidekicks, though I suppose they are in a way. Zabu and especially Lockjaw are two favourites, for sure.
Actually, come to think of it, I'd like to see some intelligent writer make use of the idea that Zabu's a big predator cat, and therefore a completely different kind of animal from a dog or wolf, with a completely different way of relating to other animals, friend or foe (though there is some evidence that at least some sabre-tooths were social rather than solitary predators, so more like lions than tigers) : I always like to think that Zabu saw himself as the superior partner. After all, he was bigger, faster, stronger - and possibly smarter, depending on which version of Ka-Zar you're looking at!

The Thing and Lockjaw would make one hell of a great series if the right writer was on the project. We need more adorable, yet funny, superhero comics in this world.

This might offend someone but I think the Falcon went the furthest of all the sidekicks. He was trained by Captain America and has recently BECOME Captain America.

You are dead to me. In my opinion, they were just trying too hard with Rick to make him "cool" (or whatever lingo the kids were using back then that meant the same thing) by hitching him to whatever they thought kids were into (was ham radio actually a "thing" that people with real lives did?). Rick usually got by on nothing more than dumb luck instead of any actual ability, falling into solutions rather than coming up with them on his own. He was whiny and petulant and not really someone who, in real life, would have been pleasant to be around. For my money, the best sidekick is Foggy Nelson. He's not someone you could build a series around, but he's absolutely indispensable to Matt Murdock.
