Rick Jones; not only was he the sidekick of the Hulk and Captain America, but he was the alter-ego of Captain Marvel. His various occupations, from ham radio enthusiast to rock star, clinch the deal for me. Robin is easily the most popular teen sidekick, but for my money Rick Jones is the most interesting. You are dead to me. In my opinion, they were just trying too hard with Rick to make him "cool" (or whatever lingo the kids were using back then that meant the same thing) by hitching him to whatever they thought kids were into (was ham radio actually a "thing" that people with real lives did?). Rick usually got by on nothing more than dumb luck instead of any actual ability, falling into solutions rather than coming up with them on his own. He was whiny and petulant and not really someone who, in real life, would have been pleasant to be around. For my money, the best sidekick is Foggy Nelson. He's not someone you could build a series around, but he's absolutely indispensable to Matt Murdock. To be fair, I like Rick in a sort of sardonic way. I just like the fact that this otherwise run-of-the-mill early 60's dropout has his hands in virtually every important corner of the Marvel Universe. Resurrect me, please!

I loathe costumed kid sidekicks so none of them would make my list. I do, however, love comic relief sidekicks, my favorites being Woozy Winks, Doiby Dickles, and Stretch Skinner. I also have a soft spot for animal sidekicks like Zabu, Redwing, Squeeks, Lobo (Red Wolf's lupine companion) and Static the Proverb Parrot. Cei-U! I summon the flea collar! I expected to see Helper on this list. I'm very disappointed.

This might offend someone but I think the Falcon went the furthest of all the sidekicks. He was trained by Captain America and has recently BECOME Captain America. Umm, Robin started out as sidekick to Batman, then became Batman. And Kid Flash started out as sidekick to the Flash, then became the Flash. Both of them long before Falcap.

I'd go for Rick, too. And you forget to mention: he was also the sidekick of Rom, Spaceknight!

"Cool" has had its current meaning since before Rick Jones' first appearance, so he's been cool all along. And yes, ham radio was and is a real hobby and subculture. I don't really have a favorite sidekick. Don't have strong feelings about them either way. A few years ago someone on a mailing list referred to a villain's sidekick. That led to a discussion of terminology - villains generally don't have sidekicks, they have henchmen and minions.

Squeeks, of course. Any sidekick that convinces the publisher it's a good idea to hand out live monkeys to children has to be a winner.

There can be only one possible answer to who the best sidekick is... Edit: Although, technically, it was really Burt Reynolds' character that was actually Captain Chaos' sidekick, Kato.
