Colossus: a great design by Dave Cockrum. I like the colors. The boots and wristbands are cool. I did always wonder this: When he was not Colossus, the costume had blue pants. When he transformed to Colossus, the blue pants disappeared.
Vindicator: A very cool, unique design. It is sleek and clean. Shows his ties to Canada. Great colors. In fact, Alpha Flight gets my vote for the most stylish team.

#19 PhoenixAlter Ego - Jean Grey First AppearanceX-Men #1 (September 1963) Silver and Bronze Ages of Comics Costume Features that I like the mostGold Gloves, Boots, and Sash that doubles as a belt. Nice Clean and Sleek Body Suit, nothing fancy and quite stylish too. One of the better X-Men Costumes of the Bronze Era. Liked the small gold insignia inside that black triangle field. Three Fabulous Pictures of Phoenix in X-MenAnother Favorite ... This is ultra-cool! I just loved the combination of Red, Green, and Yellow ...

#17 Black WidowAlter Ego - Natalia Alianovna "Natasha" Romanova First AppearanceTales of Suspense #52 (April 1964) Silver and Bronze Ages of Comics Costume Features that I like the mostRemember my Golden Age Batwoman, this is my version of where a one-tone costume is made to be dramatic, sleek, and powerful. I just dark shiny blue being flanked by a sea of black creating a shadowing effect that I like about this costume. And, of course she is a redhead and I'm a sucker for Redheads! Phoenix: Another great Dave Cockrum design. The lime green and yellow plus her red hair create a stylish look. The sash also gives it a regal look and a knod to the fashions of the 70s. I like the gloves and the boots as well.
Thor: Commanding, regal, demands respect....the bright red cape against the dark colors, the long blonde hair, the hammer, the silver on the costume. The perfect combination of Norse deity/superhero.
Black Widow: Now that is one sexy and capable woman. The dark, sleek costume, the bright red hair, the red lips, the gorgeous figure. Perfection. Nothing overly designed here. The perfect costume for an athletic spy. She would be a great Bond girl.
I have to say, so far Marvel is winning the competition for best costume designs.

I like her original appearance (though it probably wouldn't work when shes climbing up the sides of buildings)

Don Heck's Black Widow was gorgeous in the early Iron Man stories. He drew some very beautiful women. I almost think his style was better suited for mystery or romance comics. It seems people either really love his work or hate it, and I have come to appreciate it over time. He drew some of the most beautiful Marvel ladies and I liked his 80s work on Wonder Woman. His work on Iron Man is beautiful (to me, at least). I recently read a book about him and learned that many times he was paired with an uncomplementary inker or he was given an assignment and told "You have to knock out this 22 page story in 2 days."

Don Heck's Black Widow was gorgeous in the early Iron Man stories. He drew some very beautiful women. I almost think his style was better suited for mystery or romance comics. Right, Heck was widely-known for his women. Reportedly in the early 1970s when Kirby was at DC, the King (reportedly) recommended Heck for the Batgirl feature. His Batgirl and Black Widow from that era are just beautiful. It seems people either really love his work or hate it, and I have come to appreciate it over time. He drew some of the most beautiful Marvel ladies and I liked his 80s work on Wonder Woman. His work on Iron Man is beautiful (to me, at least). I too love his work on those Iron Man stories--they're almost like movies, with such atmosphere!--and also his Silver Age Avengers work. His characters weren't bland; they all were distinctive, and I don't just mean the character faces like Happy's. Natasha's face and bearing are different from Pepper's, for example. On the Avengers, his Pietro and Hawkeye and Cap all had different sets to their mouths/jaws. Wanda was drawn with a "softer", more dreamy countenance (IMO) than the more sophisticated, sharper Natasha and Jan.

The Widow's first superhero costume has been completely overshadowed by the Miss Fury/Emma Peel jumpsuit and its variants, and probably for good reason: her original costume is generic and derivative. But I do like the fishnets (à la other CCF faves Black Canary and Zatanna), so here are a couple of pics.

Wanda was drawn with a "softer", more dreamy countenance (IMO) than the more sophisticated, sharper Natasha and Jan. Yes! I remember reading that about Kirdy recommending Heck for Batgirl. The images he drew of her at night are moody and atmospheric. And I agree, those Iron Man stories are like movies. The art, the way he made Tony Stark look like a suave playboy, and of course Pepper and Happy. As the series progressed Pepper became less "frumpy" and more sexy and glamorous. I recall a pin up drawn by Heck. Pepper is in a harlequin print style swimsuit and Happy is taking pictures of her. Good call about the Avengers. Each one was drawn in a unique way, even their posture sometimes. Scarlet Witch did seem softer...almost timid compared to Natasha and Jan. From what I recall, she sort of hung back with her brother in some of the stories. Great stories and great art! Maybe we need a Don Heck appreciation thread!
